Philip Pleinn (the person) catches some principled hate for being overtly homophobic, in one instance throwing slurs around/at a retail employee right on his shop floor. I think FH TV documented it pretty well. For me personally, that aspect of social conservatism just further reduces the brand. It's normie-aspirational. The whole thing reminds me of jocks and bar-stars from the mid-to-late 2000's getting too heated on Jäger bombs and causing scenes outside nightclubs after closing time. Phillip Plein is a brand for male Turkish and Balkan immigrants in Germany. There is a lot of them so sales are soaring. And the motto is..."Maybe we scrub toilets all year in Germany but when we come back to visit our village in summer we want to sparkle like 2008 Bratz doll cuz we made it big!" 😂.

Is it the same without him though? I mean, anyone can copy his style, sure, but the brand was basically ABOUT HIM. Something that other brands do not suffer from (given, he died). The only brand I can imagine going through that in some way is yeezy. But that is because kanye is a fucking lunatic, nazi cult leader. And that is also why it might just as well not have that issue. lol I don't chase fashion at all (I work construction, the clothing I wear is disposable armor) and half the time lately I'm wearing/making my own clothing, rarely going off a store-bought pattern. The whole making my own clothing thing is mostly for practical reasons- I have difficult proportions to work with, and if I can't find something I want to wear, I can and will just make it myself if I feel strongly enough about it. Honestly I think I just love a good video essay, and there's a number in the fashion side of TH-cam, especially historical fashion
@wheresmyrooptoff4056 i was trying to say that Supreme is a brand that people think is cringe but used to love, not that supreme itself is cringe, quite the opposite, supreme is a brand with a really extensive history and with some reeeeally cool clothes(like that leather jacket by Jeff Hamilton from 2022)

I remember the 90s when Bape was impossible to get unless you lived in London, New York, Toyko or had connections. I bought a few Bape items when it finally became available online, however it's definitely not my favorite brand. Most Bape fans stopped wearing it after Nigo left.
3:30 Yeap, all of my pants are black skinny jeans amd black slim fit jeans. I don't like blue ir regular denim colors, and add to that baggy pants. If I'm wearing "baggy pants" I'm choosing Nike men's yoga pants; soft, silky, slim, yet baggy.
Salomon will fade back into outdoor-sport-obscurity very soon I think. People will look back on their phase of wearing their running shoes every day and think “wtf was I doing”
I wear Bape and Off White, but I don't wear Supreme. You make very valid points about all of it. However, I don't have any social media to post fit pics on, and I don't leave my apartment besides work. I realize no one thinks it's cool, but I've idolized Bape since the early 2000s with Pharell and Clipse and all the other rappers I loved when I was a kid. They do have a lot of horrendous designs though, and the material isn't the best quality compared to actual designer clothing. I wear the pieces I like, and I don't care what anyone else thinks.
I usually use polo shirts and button down shirts. Long sleeves from RL, Lacoste, Fred Perry etc. However I also enjoy BAPE and supreme especially now that they are a lot easier to acquire. It's funny all my Supreme stuff have minimal branding
Off white was sort of my introduction to fashion. Especially since Virgil studied architecture and I was an an architect, what he was doing in fashion was something I could understand. Tho I’m past the graphic tees and the super long graphic belt, I do find their exploration into jewelry interesting as well as how they apply their abstract logo into jewelry that I like. It’s not your basic jewelry shapes/“silhouettes”.
People hate Sketchers, but I rock a pair of black Mark Nason Block Trinity Sketchers with beige soles on the regular. They are comfy as hell and look awesome imo.
This was great - first time on your channel. Moschino when Franco Moschino had it was really incredible - and he was able to differentiate himself from the rest of the fashion brands of the day. It’s pronounced MOE-SKEE-NO
I saw the Hypebeast segment coming and was worried you'd go after Off White next, but glad you didn't. It continues to be one of my favorite brands. All the runway shows have had really interesting ideas and motifs and while it sucks that the majority of what gets seen on a daily basis is hoodies and tees I still think their prints tend to be at least a little more interesting and creative than the other logo-based brands you mentioned like supreme, bape, and palm angels.
Off-White is more interesting for sure, and it's a real shame Virgil's career was cut short. Still, I imagine their logo tees/hoodies and how popular they were put a lot of people off the brand for now

hey there everyone guy with a bape hoodie in my pfp here. in my teenage years I always wanted a bape hoodie because I wanted to emulate my favorite rappers and be engrossed in the culture at the time, but by the time I had the money to afford one for myself fashion as a whole had generally moved on and I became more aware as a consumer that bape is just owned by some super conglomerate overcharging for subpar products. I don’t even actually own the hoodie in my pfp anymore for these reasons, but by the time I’m 30 I’m sure I’m gonna be clamoring to get another one again to relive my youth
for some reason supreme is still thriving in the bay area, i’m thinking it’s because they just opened a store there within the past 2 years so people still think it’s cool while in NYC it’s outplayed
"Fashion really is about expressing MY style and that's why I am so invested in it, but 99% of the time I will critique what others wear and make fun of them for it because I hide behind current year uniform where I am untouchable (unless somebody takes a picture and I am forced to see myself after the trend is dead, in which case I am reminded of my tiny ego)" I agree you did describe the climate at the time of posting this video but after some time passed since then as well, I really gotta say that it is making me nauseous that any hobby or anything with a group of people interested in it just gets so utterly toxic at its core that almost nobody tries to do their thing anymore anyways. I feel like my fits would piss off a LOT of people, and most of them because THEY are being obnoxious. Sometimes it makes me wonder if it's even worth spending any time at all with the community behind any hobby these days.
Glad the hype on bape and supreme isnt as high anymore. I loved the brands to begin with and now that makes it easier and cheaper to cop most of their stuff. It’s funny coz the people who used to hype those brands up to begin with just moved to other brands to hype up and ruin. Bottom line, if you actually buy what you like to begin with, a brand being in the spotlight or not won’t matter much to you.
Supreme has a lot of obscure pieces that most people hating on could enjoy. This season has really impressed me as somebody who always kinda rooted for Supreme with their origins
I think every fashion brand's pieces land on a spectrum in terms of how thoughtful and intentional their design and construction are. Alyx is one of my favourites but they have some lazier stuff, but I dont mind because for every one lazy piece they have like, 4 incredible ones. I think they know that; what makes me feel that way is that ratio has stayed relatively consistent over the years.
Lots of people still dislike Kezno for sure although I'm glad to see Nigo is changing up the brand and giving it some new energy. Essentials is super played out at this point but to my understanding it's also a genuinely decent product so I'm not surprised people are happy to keep wearing it. If I owned any I'd definitely be rocking it around the house
I stopped caring about supreme in 2017 because of the insane resale prices. Recently, however, I bought a couple of T shirts I wanted to buy back then but never could. I like wearing them more now, because it doesn’t seem like I do it for the hype or whatever, it’s just because I genuinely like them
Few thoughts I’d like to share here. I just started buying Supreme (not the cringe box logo stuff) this year basically because I’ve never had much money (thanks, US Army) and in that same “thanks US Army” token, I’ve always worn “GORP” (Arcteryx, North Face, Solomon etc) and also Birkenstocks lol.. that’s what most military folks wear. Stuff that’s quality usually and just own a few pairs of civilian clothes from brands we know are tougher/versatile. Totally making well into 6 figures now with a good civilian job and reliving my youth of looking at cool brands I can now afford aka Bape, Supreme, Evisu. The cyclic part of fashion is very true and applies to younger people who now have money that can afford things they couldn’t when they were younger. I’m also big into cars and that’s the same that kinda goes on with that realm. The 30 year olds have that money now to import these cars we saw on F&F and wanna buy $50k 30yr old Japanese cars or what have you. Great video. Once again, gotta stress that I’m big into Supreme now, not everyone follows the cycle.
ON finally become a serious runner contender in the running shoe market with their release of the cloud monster and the cloud surfer 7. Their shoes were typically seen as gimmicky to most runners prior to the release of those models. I believe that when ON finally started making good running shoes people started flocking to their brand for functional reasons. If ON keeps design/developing good shoes, then I don't see them losing their appeal. Maybe the hype will die but their core market (runners) will still buy their shoes.
I recently have been getting more into Bape in my early 30's and they have some really nice pieces to choose from. I grabbed a varsity jacket on SSENSE for 60% off and then saw Dave had it on in the Sprinter video. It def still hits tbh
5 years ago copping Bape on sale would've been pretty much unheard of! I noticed even retail prices for Bape seem to be lower than they used to be (or at least lower relative to other brands) so it's getting more accessible for sure. Who knows, maybe that will encourage a new generation to give it a try as well
I stopped cringing at everything fashion related I did in the past bc what is out now will be in again in probably the not too far future and most stuff I do now will be potentially cringeworthy the very next year. I really don't care anymore bc in the end it's not me evaluating myself, but other people trying to give me the feeling I was stupid and better go and buy brand new stuff, so I'm not judged negatively. Also, nice vid. 👍
I don't know if Hoka shoes have taken over UK yet, but they are all over US now and I think they still have more room to grow, before they definitely become untrendy.
In Norway Hokas are already on a downward curve. Runners still use them of course (i have like 4 pairs myself, lol), but as a fashion trend they're slowly dying down here. They're good for everyday use and active work tho! Really comfy
I feel like Stone Island has a certain negative image here in the Netherlands. If I say it’s one of my favourite brands, people usually don’t get it and think of the simple pieces that most people buy rather than their special fabric pieces or the shadow project. At the same time, this video is about how fashion enthusiasts hate certain brands and I don’t think that’s the case here, it’s more that their simple pieces are seen in public more than their really cool stuff.
Same here in the UK tbh, if you're wearing Stone Island there's a bigger chance you're a football hooligan than a fashion enthusiast. Generally though they'll go for the cheaper items or more 'standard' jackets - anything like the Ghost line or Shadow Project doesn't quite carry the same association
10:14 the Timberland x BAPE collab this year went hard. I think it’s more the overt clashing camo and the shark hoodies that are out completely and they were mainly worn by loser hypebeasts anyway. BAPE has put out consistently good collections since it’s inception.
Balmain doesn't really belong on this list, at least not for menswear. (Even the womenswear has gotten a lot better since Olivier Rousteing did the Jean Paul Gaultier collaboration. It was admittedly wretched for a long time.) Balmain really caters to two markets simultaneously. Yes, there are the tacky logo key graphic pieces, but they do classic Parisian style super well too. The workmanship on the embellished pieces is very good. It's a very solid house if you're looking for classic luxury that's not going to date. Most of their stuff is pretty timeless, which I really respect. I don't think anyone should be putting out trendy pieces that have a lifespan of a year or two at this point. I buy a lot of Balmain, and mix it with Undercover, Comme des Garcons, Feng Chen Wang, Les Hommes, Margiela, or even just basics. Would I wear it Balmain head to toe? No. I wouldn't wear any brand head to toe though. That's pretty inherently tacky. Is it for people who are into minimalism, normcore, or hype beast culture? Not at all. It's a super solid choice for more classic luxury though.
I'm waiting for oversize and baggy clothes to go out of fashion and everyone who laughs at slim fit sweatshirts and skinny jeans today will wear it all themselves
if the last 2 years of supreme existed in 2017-2019 it would of gone so crazy, some of the recent stuff has been amazing. Really need a pair of the nike shox that they did
Idk if fashion lovers “hate” these, but I certainly think that the trucker caps with phrases on them will have a brief turn before falling out of favour again (see Kapital, for example)
I'm very much an amateur with gunpla so there's not much to talk about there! (currently building a RG Wing Gundam). Maybe if everyone stops caring about clothes I'll do a dramatic pivot to Lego and video games though haha
Nah idc what anyone else says, hype beast techwear still goes hard if you have a good color scheme, and some sick looking logos. I've even used vinyl to make my own designs on clothing after sewing them.
I remember when I first noticed Philip in Harvey Nicoles, I lost the little respect for HN and thought that's stolen from Mastermind Japan, Didn't even hide it
Interestingly enough, I'm someone that still dresses very "hypebeast" and I still get a lot of compliments, in fact far more compliments than judgemental looks. I think people in the fashion industry have some weird respect for hypebeast culture despite calling it cringe because it's ultimately what kickstarted this whole fashion movement. Influencers and the like are essentially forced to label these brands as "dead" or "cringe" in order to get views when in reality they don't think the same.
I think that it's important to think about what "personal style" means in the context of this cycle of cringe and nostalgia. There must be geniuine hypebeast-look or Phillip Plein enjoyers somewhere. If they adapt their prefences to what's fashionable now, can their style be truly called "personal"? I am speaking a bit from experience here, because I love chunky weird sneakers, like Balenciaga Track. If they are not already cringe, they will inevitabely become so in the near future. But for me they are "the shoes", and for me they will forever be beautiful.
Good point - there's always a balance with this stuff. Trend cycles give us access to things we might enjoy so I think you can engage with fashionable clothes without it being inauthentic to your personal style, but ofc it's easy to go too far there. I will always support weird shoes!

Yeah every obnoxious 14 y/o boy brainwashed by TikTok ruined Rick Owens for me. There's plenty of other great smaller designers out there making just as good of material. Its kind of a turnoff how everyone loves to dick ride these major fashion houses like they need the money
The Opium aesthetic "rick" is Not what actual rick collections look like though. I have a few Rick pieces and none fit that aesthetic or even color scheme.
To be honest when brands loose their hype and steam is when I swoop in lol. I love the sales and I love that a bape hoodie is around $200 now
Mark my words, Salomon XT6s are on their way to hatedville those damn things are everywhere now !
ion like the xt6 but i think the xt4 actually looks good and i think the convenience factor of salomons actually gonna keep em on peoples feets
@@framinami yeah they both annoy me with how much I’ve been seeing them lately, I also hate the Y2K styles that people wear with them them as well, but again, that’s just my opinion lol so really doesn’t matter what I think
It's true but I don't want it to be
Very interesting about On. I was 16 and working in a running shoe shop at the time and On came in and gave us a demo and free shoes. Remember at the time thinking that they would become very fashionable, glad they are finally getting their flowers
i hadnt really payed tons of attention to supreme until ss23 but I was really impressed by that season. I thought LVMH killed anything good about them forever but they have a lot of great designs. they'll be cool again but I think 2017 style hype culture around 2 or 3 streetwear brands is a thing of the past
Childhood is making fun of bape all the time
Adulthood is realizing bape is hard as hell
For real, the Bape Busy Works logo goes hard
Bapesta is just the same same. You can litterally get bapesta pandas. And the obnoxious hoodies are bad and the good shit is mid at best but that is in 2023 ofcourse they been around
its easy to make fun of the bape shark hoodies but bape has had a huge affect on streetwear worldwide and its hard to deny its influence
@@wealllameidk i own some bapestas, and they are quite literally so much more comfortable than any other platform shoe i own. when i worked in retail i wore them often bc of the comfort
Wish they would have oversized camo print zip up hoodies. Trying to look out Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad, but in Bape drip
What I was gonna write too, exclusively for nafri taxi drivers with credit cards, a status symbol that only appeals to them and looks tacky to anyone outside their community, like palm angels in the UK (also mildly popular with similar people in Germany)
do you meybe also have some nice words towards jews, to serve some more stereotypes? or is it just the xenophobic part, that appeals to you?
@@Cicatrizs I am from Balkan, mixed with Turks, so I belong to this culture and therefore I can see it's trends and talk about what I see. Because we both know that what I wrote is the truth.
@@mattbonanza9032 your description fits the Balkan community in Sweden as well sadly
@@KRISTIANSMILJANIC Hope trends change. They will move to quiet luxury and fashionable crowd will explore something new in spring 2024. It is time for a change in fashion. I am of Balkan descend myself, just to justify myself being critical about my fellow citizens. Otherwise, I guess, it would be kind of politically incorrect of me to say stuff like this 🙈.
Love off-white! Rip virgil😢 can’t wait for the “hypebeast” trend to come back😂 jokes aside tho i’m glad to hear your opinions on these changing trends and the circle of fashion as a whole! Great video 😊
People love the idiot anyway.
I'm kinda (completely) out of the loop regarding some of these brands but I find that documentary-like video format captivating and very interesting. Good job Antwon !
lol I don't chase fashion at all (I work construction, the clothing I wear is disposable armor) and half the time lately I'm wearing/making my own clothing, rarely going off a store-bought pattern.
Aime leon dore is gonna be the next supreme in terms of brands that people think is cringe but used to be SUPER popular
grouping supreme into that is some ignorance on another level
@wheresmyrooptoff4056 i was trying to say that Supreme is a brand that people think is cringe but used to love, not that supreme itself is cringe, quite the opposite, supreme is a brand with a really extensive history and with some reeeeally cool clothes(like that leather jacket by Jeff Hamilton from 2022)
@@skyzzz7638 I don't know. Yeah Supreme is now considered as out of style, but not cringe. If you think of Supreme as box logos, supreme logos all over the place and Sup x TNF jackets, yeah, these things are cringe, but Supreme is more than that and their aesthetics and other things are still very cool and easy to wear this time in "streetfashion". Only thing that changes is, that they are not on their top like they used to be. But it was clear, that this hype would die...
eh idk, ALD is pretty good at adapting to the times. it'd take a lot for them to fall off imo
It’s pronounced MOE-SKEE-NO
Gallery, Cole Buxton, Trap star, Parajumper, Moncler, Zavetti, Canada Goose, Moose Knuckles, LV, VLTN, Givenchy, Prada, Gucci, Dior, D&G etc, etc
Still, I imagine their logo tees/hoodies and how popular they were put a lot of people off the brand for now
The re:form ad was perfect timing, I needed a new wallet and it's exactly what I was looking for. I just bought an RE:02 through your link, just an FYI in case your sponsorship is engagement based and they try to shaft you on sales numbers.
Ah that's awesome! Really hope you like it. Luckily I'm not paid on commission or anything but appreciate you letting me know 😅
I could never diss sketchers, I used to work in a grocery store and they’re perfect for that kind of work
Ive been rocking RE:FORM RE:01 since last year and haven't looked back. Everything I need and nothing more!
def getting that wallet, have something similar and honestly couldn't tell you where I even got it from. Except it only has 2 slots and it has stretched over the years from occasionally trying to stuff extra cards in it. And all I keep learning from your videos is that trends are like the seasons. Everyone experiences them, but you can take yourself out of it by staying in your house
My wife loves the Philip Plein spike covered jackets, but hates my house paint and home spiked actual battle jacket. (She should think they are both cringe)
0:29 I want to make things you want to see, afterall: Well that's the biggest problem i have with social media. A bunch of "crowd pleasers" and "like whores"(not all, of course).
Create what you are passionate about, it is more motivating for you, and even more inspiring for me, long term💁🏻♂️
That's a fair point actually! Appreciate the input 🙏
hey there everyone guy with a bape hoodie in my pfp here. in my teenage years I always wanted a bape hoodie because I wanted to emulate my favorite rappers and be engrossed in the culture at the time, but by the time I had the money to afford one for myself fashion as a whole had generally moved on and I became more aware as a consumer that bape is just owned by some super conglomerate overcharging for subpar products.
"Fashion really is about expressing MY style and that's why I am so invested in it, but 99% of the time I will critique what others wear and make fun of them for it because I hide behind current year uniform where I am untouchable (unless somebody takes a picture and I am forced to see myself after the trend is dead, in which case I am reminded of my tiny ego)"
I agree you did describe the climate at the time of posting this video but after some time passed since then as well, I really gotta say that it is making me nauseous that any hobby or anything with a group of people interested in it just gets so utterly toxic at its core that almost nobody tries to do their thing anymore anyways.
Ironically, iirc Airpods are pretty well respected in the audiophile community for having a pretty neutral frequency response.
Yeah but compared to the Lightnings with the Palladium cabling?
No contest.
hah good knowledge, I guess the people clowning on them just like being contrarian
You forgot to mention Kenzo and Fear of God. Those "Essentials" sweats are starting to get played out.
Céline, i dont understand why their expensive ass, basic clothing is so popular…
Who knows, maybe that will encourage a new generation to give it a try as well
Thing is, with Off White, if Virgil was alive he would have done cooler shit than continue the hypebeast stuff.
Very true!
I miss when sketches were synonymous with platform shoes
The fact you've missed off Paul's Boutique is a CRIME 💀💀
hahaha omg I had completely erased that stuff from my mind, horrendous!
absolutely agree with this video... by the way is that persona 5 OST?
Thanks! It is indeed 🎶
I want a bape shark hoodie so bad still
Have seen On Running described as Scouse sketchers and its a perfect description
Palm angels in the uk is just the new 11° or dsquared or EA7
So true
4:58 no coincidence at all.
10:14 the Timberland x BAPE collab this year went hard.
I think it’s more the overt clashing camo and the shark hoodies that are out completely and they were mainly worn by loser hypebeasts anyway.
BAPE has put out consistently good collections since it’s inception.
Were you a metalhead growing up? Asking because of that second pic from your Google Photos.
You didn’t have to use the Gold Kobe helicopters from Phillip Plein 😂
It'll happen!
Same. I am so done with people looking like they're wearing dad's too big clothes.
Trend followers hate on Philipp plein as if their style wasnt just what they thought everyone else accepted. 😂
if the last 2 years of supreme existed in 2017-2019 it would of gone so crazy, some of the recent stuff has been amazing. Really need a pair of the nike shox that they did
FOG Essentials for sure
What about von dutch? Seen a few people in those hats recently, or ed hardy? Man they got some hate back in the day are they cool again now?
Idk if fashion lovers “hate” these, but I certainly think that the trucker caps with phrases on them will have a brief turn before falling out of favour again (see Kapital, for example)
My friend took his family to Flamingo Land recently and he said everyone was wearing Palm Angels there 😅
Not flexing at Flamingo Land 😭
Damn i never actually followed any of the hype stuff till now but damn its crazy to see how all evolves😅
7:40 hate it several times more than the gaudy rapper clothes. The 50’s aesthetic can do one, Elvis has definitely left the fucking building 👍🏻
Eyyy BAPE did a crossover with Transformers and had some special edition Optimus Prime toys. They'll always be cool to me!
Will we ever get a video on your gunpla/toy collection?
I'm very much an amateur with gunpla so there's not much to talk about there! (currently building a RG Wing Gundam). Maybe if everyone stops caring about clothes I'll do a dramatic pivot to Lego and video games though haha
Nah idc what anyone else says, hype beast techwear still goes hard if you have a good color scheme, and some sick looking logos. I've even used vinyl to make my own designs on clothing after sewing them.
I think anything with a big logo on it is tacky
the more you hate on something, the more ppl will want to wear it as a rebellious statement
Newyorker selling "Los Angeles" remake of Palm Angels clothes, absolutely everywhere in Czechia
Cool points for using the Le Blanc theme song
Great video. I’d by vintage supreme shirts. They have cool designs.
Thanks - for sure, over the years there's been some really cool stuff
Isn't Supreme coming back around already
DSQUARED FITS HERE...nice video.
I literally have the hot dog keychain, I wanted the shark one but they sent me the wrong one
Plein: Display of wealth possibly, display of luxury? No. Excess, yeah I guess.
I remember when I first noticed Philip in Harvey Nicoles, I lost the little respect for HN and thought that's stolen from Mastermind Japan, Didn't even hide it
Proud to say I've always hated hypebeasts brand and never bought into them.
You're a man of culture Principal Skinner
you rock my world Antwon
🤩
You do still see Bapestas around in northern California. Cuz I'm wearing them
11:21 nothing cringe about donkey kong country returns 3D
Interestingly enough, I'm someone that still dresses very "hypebeast" and I still get a lot of compliments, in fact far more compliments than judgemental looks. I think people in the fashion industry have some weird respect for hypebeast culture despite calling it cringe because it's ultimately what kickstarted this whole fashion movement. Influencers and the like are essentially forced to label these brands as "dead" or "cringe" in order to get views when in reality they don't think the same.
Hypebeasts started the fashion movement?????????
@@leo_is_not_available yeah, even if I interpret that statement in good faith it makes very little sense. Just objectively incorrect
