    I really appreciate your measured, non-judgmental approach to talking about these topics. You present aspects of Thai life and culture with the realization that not all people are the same. "If you're this kind of person, you'll like it. If you're that kind of person, you won't" So refreshing!

    I miss most of those things about the uk too but once again the pros outweigh the cons massively and like I’ve said previously, the west is not even close to what it used to be and my nostalgia will be replaced by disgust if I ever went back!
    I am going to try and live in Penang, Malaysia within the next 5 years and see if that is more palatable

    Love the bidet hygiene culture in Thailand which does not exist in western countries. Safety is also huge plus in Thailand which is much less in west. I miss access to buying organic produce online like Amazon which is not as extensive in Thailand. On the plus side, Thailand has amazing local fresh food markets at incredible prices by family farms that are probably close to organic.

    More honest content, thanks. In Bangkok for a week, scoping out neighborhoods for when we move here. Coming from Saudi (me) and Dubai (her), the heat is not an issue here. Had lunch at the Big C food court on Friday - two filling entrees and two beers was $6. But, last night had a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale pint near Central World and it was about $9 lol. Love the variety of things to do here - culture, food, shopping, walking. Since arriving Thursday night, we've had two days of over 15,000 steps per day. Echo your point on service (hit or miss), but always friendly. Service in the Middle East is terrible and grumpy - Thailand wins that one.

I still get to watch the NFL , NBA CNBC on 55 inch in Bkk. Maybe once in a while, I have a craving for In-N-Out Burger. As I’m from California, I do miss my wine prices and my Christmas tamales🤣

    One thing I'm curious about is the product or groceries? Are there things you miss from the US? E.g. fresh produce? Fruit? I've heard cheese is expensive. Or what about things like bread? Does it taste the same?

    • @RamzeTravels
      @RamzeTravels  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Cheese is a bit more and less variety. Produce is everywhere here and is better and cheaper by a lot. Bread seems similar but way less variety. We don’t cook much at home so that has very little effect on us. There are places like Villa Market that stock a lot of imported items but at a higher price.

    The thing I miss the most are basic safety features. Railings mostly non-existent, which I deal with everyday in my new condo as there is no way to reach ground level without going down stairs with the exception of using the garage car ramps. Stepping off a pier in Koh Phangan on to the round railing of a bouncing boat. Is a plank so hard? They do this 8 times a day? The complete disregard for traffic direction, and most other traffic laws. The eye-level covers of the motorbike carts. Disrepair and hazards of sidewalks (broken arm in Bangkok from that).
    Of less importance... trash cans are hard to find, can't read the ingredients of items - even import items as usually covered by a sticker in Thai, and the expense of import items, especially cigars! Entering my third year here and the good far outweighs the bad, and a few trips a year to the US and other places will be enough to maintain balance. Thanks for all the information on your channel, and hope you continue.
    Happy New Year!

    When I first started going to Thailand, I ate mostly Thai food. Now it's probably 50/50 at least when I'm in Bangkok. I've had some great burgers and pizza here.
    Bulgogi pizza from Korean restaurants is awesome. On the same note. I've been spoiled by Thai food there, the only time I eat it here is if friends want it.

    Well done on your balanced view of Thailand. NO place is perfect. All places have Pros and Cons. As individuals we have free will to decide if the place we’ve chosen to live have pros that outweigh the cons and if those cons are something we can live with! I do love Thailand, especially Bangkok where I’ve had some of the best food including *Western* food, whatever that may be exactly😉

  • @TheFinRevolution
    @TheFinRevolution 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    Bangkok has the most food variety of any big city in the world, and going out on a limb, the western food you find is better than the western food at home, (in the west). They just put more effort in the craft. You'll have to go to a real fine dining place in the west to find stuff comparable with the local italian restaurant in Bangkok, mostly you're going to get sloppy service and frozen reheated food. THE best western food I had in my life, has been in Asia, not in the west. Also there are perfectly authentic Mexican restaurants in Bangkok run by Mexicans, perhaps you haven't found those yet.

    Con - toilets. The state of them that is. I’m not talking about the plush malls. Just your everyday bar or eatery. Usually no flush on the urinal, so they honk. Or no running water in the taps - or soap for that matter. Then if you do find running water and soap, you end up rubbing your wet hands in your shorts because there’s nothing to dry them with.
    On the plus side. The bum gun is probably the best invention ever. You think how much of the Amazon rain forest would still be here today if the west adopted the bum gun!
    Keep up the good work.

    "Food was decent?" . . . . Wow!! You're much too kind!!
    Again Ramze, let's put this into an actual context. If one is, say multi-millionaire, would they seriously be living in Thailand permanently? I really don't think so!
    It's all just cheaper or "Economically-Friendly". Ones could get anything and everything Thailand in La La Land's Bangrak Market or Las Vegas's Chinatown (and a couple of Thai Grocery stores there too) Not to mention many Thai restaurants in La La Land and Vegas are even better than some of the fancy hotels' here!!
    In the U.S., at least you wouldn't die prematurely because of Air Pollutions nor Traffic-related incidents that wouldn't happen anywhere else on the planet. Some days in Chiangmai, the pollution was "the worst" in the world!!
    It's all just economically friendlier and yes, Thai people mostly won't bother you as long as you have $$$. And pretty soon after the pandora box has been opened (Visa-Free) sooner or later the repercussions of "Over Tourism" is going to be catastrophic to the level unimaginable before.
    All I'm saying also is that you're giving things as they are from factual-based point of views. "Truth is relative" One;s truth is definitely going to be different from the other, even if you're an actual conjoined Siamese Twins, right? One head is going to like it while the other is going to feel or think otherwise!!
    One Planet Earth and 8 billion individual's world!! That's a fact!!
    Thailand is a very doable place to visit and staying short-term but try to look at how many expats have left after so many years and how many have actually managed to have stayed permanently? I think the ratio is not even comparable!

    I just returned to the USA and the very first day clearly remember why I want to leave and return to my spirit home in Thailand. For me the combative nature of the western culture makes me physically ill. I have travelled SA and Philip and Thailand is like night and day. Here in the US I immediately feel angry and ready to fight. In Thailand I feel peaceful and happy. I served in the military and love the country I was born and raised in. Unfortunately the country where I was born was never my home. Never respected or loved me like I loved what I thought was home.
