Very helpful Greg. You used several filters, but only one Nik tool. How would you then use a second Nik plugin on the same image? I’ve tried this and found that the second plugin negated the effects of the first. I must have been using an improper adjustment flow. What implementation of layers would work? Do they need to be smart objects? Thanks!
You can either filter on the same Smart Object (which is great if you aren’t using a Filter Mask to further target it), or wrap the result in another Smart Object to have more control with the next application you use to filter the image.

Really interesting Greg, I love how you manage to convey the intricacies of the software you use so cogently. Shows how out of touch I am, I acquired the Nik Collection a while back when Google released it for free, and had assumed it was to remain legacy code. Do you know how much development and the sort of upgrades the new owners are doing/planning?
DxO has cleaned up some of the bugs and it does run a lot smoother/better. They just released Nik Collection 3 with some new features, like "Non-Destructive" editing, I'm using Nik 2.5 so I can't comment on the new features in Nik 3. I'll probably "upgrade" if/when they add features that interest me more, but for now I'm happy with Nik 2.5. If you are looking to buy the DxO version, I'd wait for a sale to come up (they run sales often @ up to 50% off) I'll bet there will be a Black Friday sale, and maybe one before then. Cheers,
Lumenzia (and luminosity masks in general) is a tool for precise targeting via selection or mask. You need an adjustment first. Lumenzia creates a few (such as via “contrast” or “sharp”), but its main focus is to help you apply your adjustments more accurately. I use them both together quite a lot, though not in this case.

Yes. Nik changed the UI somewhat, but the functionality is the same.
