How Trudeau stays in power despite most Canadians hating him

  • It’s been a while since Canadians have hated a federal government as much as they hate this one. Justin Trudeau has an approval rating of just 36 per cent. And while voters aren’t entirely sure of who they would replace him with, 81 per cent of Canadians want somebody different.

Ya we are pretty much fucked up here. We are also run by corporate interests and oligopolies because our competition bureau has no teeth and is absolutely useless.
The bread price fixing scandal went on for 15 years and the companies involved made billions. The only reason they got caught is because someone took responsibility and told them what was happening. After an 8 year investigation they "agreed" to a 50million dollar fine..after making billions. The media only really talked about how this 50mm fine was the biggest fine of its kind ever.
Our telecommunications oligopoly (rogers, telus, bell) saw this litteral slap on the wrist and all raised their cellphone connection fee by $30 to a total of $60, all at the same time. I havnt heard of any resistance to this. With a million people coming to the country every year its free money.

The US electoral college is significantly worse. Vote efficiency is an issue because of first past the post, which is an even bigger problem stateside (unless you live in Maine or Nebraska), because instead of hundreds of ridings being decided in that manner, which largely cancel out over time, you have entire states! Millions of republicans in California and millions of democrats in Texas have votes that mean absolutely nothing. That is nothing to say about apportionment, where small states’ citizens , due to the 2+1 rule, have 3x the voting power of larger states.

He was hated by many of own in Quebec, many Westerners, military veterans, etc. He managed to get 2 more majorites by strategic campaigning in vote/seat rich Ontario/Quebec. That Harper part is mostly in jest, as I’m not so ignorant to actually think that a dictator could even take control in a parliamentary system like that which Canada employs.
The confidence with which so many on the right spout woefully incorrect, and downright impossible bullshit, puts their truly outstanding level of ignorance on full display.

If I have to choose between someone who spends money on everything and someone who wants to destroy Canadian development by cutting spending, I’m going to take the first option. At least if he’s spending on everything there is the potential for Canadian industry to grow. Cutting will only put us further behind the rest of the world. Justine Trudeau was invited to address a major gathering of the Canadian Nation Indians two weeks ago in Alberta.
He spoke for almost an hour about his plans for increasing every Canadian Native Indian present standard of living.
He referred to how he had supported every Canadian Native issue that came to the news media.
Although Trudeau was vague about the details of his plans, he seemed most enthusiastic and spoke eloquently about his ideas for helping his " Native brothers and sisters. "
At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented him with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name, " WALKING EAGLE ."
The proud Mr. Trudeau accepted the plaque and then departed in his motorcade to a fundraiser, waving to the crowds.
A news reporter later asked the group of chiefs how they came to select the new name they had given to the Justine.
They explained that " WALKING EAGLE " is the name given to a bird so full of shit it can no longer fly.
