    Great review and good to find an Aussie reviewer - so many reviews of palettes that end up being too expensive for beginners in Australia 😞

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh yes, everything is so much more expensive here! But at least there are a few local Aussie art companies, which produce some decent enough products. 😊

    Oh, that blue-grey is so pretty! Definitely my favorite out of this set. I'm so glad your father is doing well. What gorgeous flower gardens! I really enjoy your sketchy page - it's fun to do that sometimes and it's always nice to go back through later and see all your little creations. This is a neat little paint set - I like the idea of it and the paint actually looks quite pretty.

    I actually love this color palette so much! The second row are my favorites. I love that blue grey and dark green especially. I know what you mean about the dark green being an important color and the Payne’s grey of course! I think a brighter green would’ve been useful too but yeah it’s probably in one of the other sets. Dark green is so gorgeous that I think it’s my favorite! I love the floral sketches especially the “octopus” flower haha! I hope your hand feels better, those darn colored pencils can be so straining! I’m also happy to hear that your dad is doing well:) I would definitely consider this set as like a travel set. It just contains so many of my favorite types of colors!

      The dark green is a real winner! It's a fun set and quite useful too. Hand has been pretty sore but wearing a brace has helped. Such a nuisance though and I've realised just how much I rely on it in every day life! My left hand has had to try and pick up the slack. 😂

      @@BeckyTregear How do you decide on which paints to use at any given time? Is about texture and colour tone, are you influenced by the surface of the what you are painting on? Is it instinct? As a non artist I have would be completely overwhelmed by choice!
      You mention in your current video about taking it easy because you've hurt your hand so less pencil more paint. I know as a musician it's easy to forget about the physical side of music, is this also the case with art? Wishing you a speedy recovery. 🌸 💜

      @@FourInchCats Oh yes, I have been shocking for not taking care of my hand and doing stretches etc. When I'm in The Zone I forget....I guess I have learned the hard way this time! More care will be taken in future for sure. As for choosing paints, it is mostly purely whim, whatever takes my fancy at a given time. Other reasons include the colour range I might have in a set, whether I want granulating or non granulating colours, do I need to use lightfast pigments for something that might hang on a wall, or is it just going into a sketchbook. And which set am I "feeling" right now, if that makes sense. I am sure different instruments are much the same. Tenor vs Baritone, steel vs nylon...the different sounds they make etc.

    Hi Becky, thanks for the video! :) Do you think you could test out the metallic set from this range? I've been wanting to get some metallic watercolours for a while now but I'm unsure of how

      I picked up the Mont Marte metallics set a while ago and am in the process of trying to get a review together. It doesn't look to be coming out until June though, due to my upcoming travel schedule. 😬 But I'd put them in the "they're ok but not amazing" category, lol. Hi Becky, total newb here. Just.bought the Nature collection of this set. How do you clean the brush between colours? Is that what the sponge is for (off camera)?
    Thank you for this product overview/review.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh great, how are you liking the nature set? If I use the waterbrush, I'll either have a small pot of water next to me to wash it between colours, or a paper towel....or yes even the sponge will work for a little while, but I find tissues and towels to work better in the long run. And squeezing a little water through the brush will help rinse it through too! 🙂

    I love watercolor sketches and yours are lovely! I have a question: what is the issue with watercolor beading? I use plastic palettes and I’m happy using them. Anyway, I hope your hand heals soon, and yes stay away from coloring pencils! A few years ago I had to avoid coloring pencils because of my wrist and shoulder problems. I’m better now and do use coloring pencils but I take longs breaks as well.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Beading bothers me mainly because it is more difficult to see the colours mixed together, and also when going back to pick up more paint - it's nicer when they form a good puddle. I've used plastic palettes that have been pretty good, usually once they've been scuffed up a bit. My favourite is ceramic or porcelain because that works so well for making pools of paint. It's just a preference thing really! Yes, I will need to change my arting habits to let my hand rest fully. It has been in a brace all week - seems to be coming right on its own through rest, thankfully!

    • @shadowguard3578
      @shadowguard3578 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeckyTregear you’re welcome! Yes rest is a great healer ☺️. I avoided colored pencils for approximately one year. I have thought of porcelain palettes but in my mind I keep thinking they’re going to be heavy, they will chip, and I’m clumsy so I’m afraid I’m going to drop it full of paint! I test my paint on scrap paper or in an out of date and my almost out of date planner. 😀

      Do you mean are they non-toxic? I'd say they probably are but I guess it depends on the pigments they use (eg cadmium and cobalt are two which can be quite toxic in high levels) Watercolours in general are pretty safe because they are bound up in binders, and are not in dry powder state. I mean, having said that I always exercise a bit of caution when using any art supply: avoid drinking paint water, washing my hands after I've been painting etc. I guess if you have specific concerns it is best to contact the company directly. 🙂
