    I have a 6 qt. Tramontina Dutch oven that I picked up for around $40-$50 years ago. I bought it because I could replace it 5 or 6 times before i reached the cost of a Le Creuset. So far, it has done it's job. I'm beginning to get a bit of discoloration on the enamel, but not severe. My main beef is that tomato sauce tends to scorch onto the enamel... a problem I do not have with my non-stick cookware. Other than that, no complaints. I have my grandfather's Griswold dutch oven that I use for break making.

    The Amazon Basics Dutch Oven has a max temp of 400° F . Lodge is 500°F ideal for bread making.

    I have an Amazon Basics. It's my pasta finisher. I make the sauce in it on medium low and finish cooking the pasta in it when it's about 2 minutes away from done. My other dutch ovens are higher end.

    I already have a cast iron dutch oven, a Victoria 4 qt. It's big enough for the two of us. But I wanted a enameled cast iron braiser. My first enameled piece. I looked at a lot of different brands, on Amazon, TJ Max, and Home Goods. Le Creuset was looked at but not considered. All the brands I saw, as you said, are made in China. The Amazon Basic one had handles that were too small. Tramontina has a nice one but the color was kind of flat. So decided to go with the one American Company I was sure of and trust - Lodge. Yes, it's made in China and may cost a bit more, but their high quality standards are there. 3.6 qt and it came in Caribbean Blue. Gorgeous!

    Just got THIS Amazon basics Dutch oven in Blue. Thank you for sharing the tips about cooling it down so the enamel doesn't get destroyed. That's something I would have done unknowingly. Btw for people trying to save $, I bought one that is being sold by Amazon under the "used" category for only $40 in "like new" condition. Meaning it was sent back but possibly never even used! 6 qt enameled dutch oven for $40 w free shipping is unheard of. I saw other colors used for slightly more, but totally worth taking a look 👌. You mentioned that going from a hot oven or stove-top to washing right away in the sink, could cause warping or cracking. But what about after braising different meats, then adding water to breakup the bits on the bottom, is this a bad idea? Or does it handle that sort of thing ok. ?

    • @tomwadek
      @tomwadek  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s fine because you are adding liquid to the inside of a hot pot or pan while it’s still on the heat source. Just use common sense and don’t add ice cold water or something like that. Cheers

    I am mixed on enamel dutch ovens, I like them a lot but I will always prefer a bare iron oven. Much more utilitarian, it does take more work to maintain. My enameled oven I have is barely used just because I have not needed it yet

Hell, I can see what appears to be a terrible factory finish on the Amazon brands lid even in the video.
