This scene is just splendid! It does a terrific job at showing the difference between Woo Bin's and the Emperor's affections towards Sunny.
Lee Hyuk's love for Sunny is a selfish one, he wants her and in his selfishness fails to see the bigger picture, he does not realize the pain and trauma he put her through and thinks that just with apologies and being "nice to her" she will love him once again, he will rather have her with him than put her out of his mothers range.
On the other hand Woo Bin wants her to be safe and happy even if it is not with him. Woo Bin has repeatedly tried to convince Sunny to leave the palace despite she being his most powerful ally inside the place and has not acted on his feelings towards her because he is fully aware of the dangerous position they're both in. He cares for her in a quiet, selfless kind of way. And most importantly, he respects her. He respects Sunny's decision of staying in the palace despite disagreeing with it and doesn't force her to do what he thinks is best.

I love how WangShik being honest about his feelings. And lmao emperor, do you really like to kill a person when nothing goes on your way? This is why I can never ship you with empress.
The script writer really has the power to turn a character around. With so many scenes and backstory dedicated to depict the Emperor, how can one not feel pity for him?
Many are commenting that there is no romantic chemistry between Sunny and Woo Bin but she looks cute with the Emperor. How to when half the story revolves around the Emperor and the drama reality hardpresses Sunny and Woo Bin on all sides and forces them to fight hard just to survive in the treacherous palace? What's even worse is Woo Bin knows he only has 3 months left and all the more he won't let Sunny knows he likes her and it seems that Mr Byun also cautioned him against liking Sunny in an earlier episode which suggests there is something deeper between the two of them. Refraining from showing affections to Sunny yet unafraid to tell the truth straight in the Emperor's face just to try to make him realise what's better for Sunny, Woo Bin proves himself to be a real man who loves a woman responsibly with all his heart, even to the point of past caring for his own safety. This is also demonstrated in the way he truly loves and cares for Dong Sik despite all the wrongs Min Yura did. In contrast, the Emperor is behaving like a boy who is obsessive over the "toys" that he doesn't want to lose and allow his emotions to rule his head and run his life. That makes him a good puppet to be manipulated. Every wrong decision he chose to make thus far all came about in a moment of rage/fear. No doubt the Emperor is traumatized by a bad childhood but there is consequences to every choice. Till the Emperor acknowledges he's wrong and takes responsibility for his mistakes, there is no true redemption and he will remain stunted in his psychological state. Hurting people hurt people - that's why the Emperor couldn't take Empress So Hyun's words as truth despite her love for him. No woman's love can take away the Emperor's sense of worthlessness and being unloved that are being inflicted by his parents.
Lastly, kudos to Choi Jin Hyuk for portraying his character with such finesse despite the limited scenes he's given.
True, Woobin's character is clear and straight from the beginning so there is not much room for CJH to really potray it, unlike the emperor's character with a lot of twist and development. That is the only dissappoinment of this drama, I feel like the writer should make the empress and Woobin just a really good friend and team instead of trying to make them a lover. They care about each other, but the "love" is not that believeable. They should have started the love line a bit earlier if that what they intent for.
In the real life i will choose wang shik rather than emperor..but this is a drama its all depends on the writernim..and looks like the writer seems favourite lee hyuk character and they want to push audience to the ending sunny and lee hyuk..i prefer sunny left alone if wang shik has to die

It’s so annoying that people are rooting for the emperor. Yes he had a bad upbringing but you can’t use this as an excuse for all the bad things he has done. He is sick & needs help. He is unstable, & if things don’t go his way he has a tantrum. The problem is his tantrums can cause someone harm or death.
Bad father, bad husband, bad brother & bad king. At some point he will have to face the consequences for his actions of the past.
Now this all depends on the writers.

The emperor was raised in that way ever since he was a child thanks to his evil mother/queen. Now he has feelings for someone he once attempted to kill and nothing can ever be more evil than that but he is guilty and regretful for all the crimes he have done in the past and thus he is willing to change and become a better man for Sunny. Y not give this ship a chance to sail?
Afnan Shaikh it’s like the old saying, once a cheater always a cheater, once a killer always a killer, once a wife beater, always a wife beater. He has mental problems, he needs a shrink not a wife to help him mentally. Last I checked, Sunny isn’t a doctor. It’s great that he’s trying to be a better person, but blaming things on childhood stuff does not excuse what has been done. Sunny is a smart gal and has grown so much, she wouldn’t and shouldn’t go back to someone who actually tried to kill her. It’s like telling someone to stay in an abusive relationship because they’re married or have children. No, no thanks. Oh and obsession is not love.

However in real life i would of course say that someone like the emperor need some serious medical attention and I believe he also deserves a chance to be loved and feel loved again despite the crime he has done. Hyuk is evil since the beginning of the drama, but I still like him more than woo bin. For some odd reason, my mind keep playing trick on me - I always see woo bin as the bad guy here.
So let’s see:
Hyuk, ran over a lady and killed her. Then he hid it and had her body dumped. When the son tried to get justice for his mother’s death, he had a bullet put in his head. He married Sunny under false pretenses the tried to have her killed on their wedding day. He then cheated in his wife very openly in the palace. He conspired with his mother to have Sunny set for for so many things, like she was having an affair or she poisoned his grandmother. Or set up her family. Then when he found out his mistress was lying to him, he locked her in a burning car to die, even after all the stuff she did for him. The he had her locked up in a mental hospital and had her skin ripped from her body while she was awake and with no pain meds. Not to mention that he strangled his pregnant first wife and left her to drown. Oh and he had her bodyguard locked up in a mental hospital. Oh I forgot that he also cheated on his first wife, and got another women pregnant and he denied that child until he was forced to acknowledge her.
Woo Bin- he loved a woman that didn’t want him. His mother got killed and he tried to get justice for her. Instead of justice he got a bullet to the head. He came in to the palace to get his brand of justice and to bring out the bad deeds of the palace. Now Woo Bin is wrong for using the princess and playing with he4 feelings.
Well me too... I know it's wrong but I just can't help it. It's common sense to pick Woo Bin in real life. But in this case though Woo Bin's expressions are just empty for me. It doesn't have that warmth that Hyuk showed.

I like him more than I like woobin... after knowing his real behaviour, I think he is really fragile and only covered will evil deeds that wasn't start by his own intention. I think his heart is pure like a kid.. while Woobin is more like a guy who hurts with his judgement.. he always think the bad side of the emperor... so yeah.... I like the emperor better 😍

I havent started watching it yet as i want to watch all in one go,and the wait is killing me! From what i read its going to be tough...As i know the guard deserves the empress,but because im cheezy af and like the typical endings where empress stays with emperor etc ...i hope they do reconsil with one another,which ik wont be easy,...one the other hand i hope that she doesnt just accept him all of a sudden...but praying that slowly they will go back together and that the emperor proves and shows that he is a changed man and that the empress will give him an opportunity..Yes at the same time i dont think he deserves her and that hes a selfish muderer that needs serious help.Not sure if it can happen with just a few episodes left :c Anyway just praying it has an happy ending as there are so few historical dramas that have the typical "I love you" happy ending...im a sucker for those
No matter how true the guide's words are,he should not profess his feelings to the emperor cause he is legally married to Sunny and moreover she is not just anyone but the empress of the nation. He would have been executed if it were to be ancient time.
Frankly the emperor didn't intentionally run over Woo bin's mother, Min Yura hit her a with stone and Woo bin's mother running for her life and running towards the road, she came out of nowhere, the emperor couldn't stop the vehicle on time and didn't know what he hit until he got out the car and end up hitting her so that was not intentional, it was an accident, his only era is that he didn't report it to the police due to his position as an emperor and fear. As the empress said to him carve out what's rotten in your own flesh and do the right thing, now the emperor is going to be hurt and feel betrayed by both Woo Bin and the empress, I know there will be anger and him being the bad guy again, I'm still hoping that he does not go that route and do the right thing, serve time for his crime, counseling rehab and then come out a better man and hoping that the empress and the emperor at the end will be happy ending that's my wish anyways. Dang oh, I hate it when the writers do this to the second lead I want him to be the main lead come on now!
