- It's opening day week, so back we go to opening day from 2007! This would be final opening day for our beloved Coach Gibbs, who finished a surprisingly modest 8-8 in openers. Gibbs' teams were slow-starters weren't they? ...but often fast finishers, as would be the case in this fateful season.
The Dolphins were in town, and they brought the Florida sunshine with them, along with a familiar face at QB - our old friend Trent Green. Jason Campbell led the Redskins offense in circles for most of this one, along with many of our '00s favorites (Portis, Moss, Coooooley and, according to Dan Dierdorf "Rantionne Andel-El"... oh, Deirdoff).
This was a low scoring, defensively dominated affair that saw the Redskins D rebound from a miserable '06 showing as Washington gutted out a tough, entertaining victory in front of a jubilant FedEx Field crowd.
The surprisingly long-employed Dan Deirdoff on the call here with one of the Gumbels (I forget which one, does it matter?) for the start of Joe Gibbs' final NFL campaign.
This is where I usually encourage folks with old games to email me, but no one ever does so I'm gonna go drink now. Yeah.... you can feel bad about that.
This brought happy tears to my eyes I’m 32 I remember these days I went to the game after Sean Taylor passed away against the Bills. I miss the Redskins 🥲 #HTTR4L
This was an amazing year for the Redskins! They made it miraculously to the playoffs that year, having to win their last 4 games in order to make it to the WildCard! They were definitely an exciting team to watch that season.

Portis and Betts ran with some power. Wow that was quite the crowd for that game, hopefully it will be that way again soon.

The Gibbs 2 era teams were always entertaining to watch. Santana Moss, Antwan Randle El, Chris Cooley, Clinton Portis, Mike Sellers, and my all time favorite Sean Taylor.

THAT CROWD noise reminded me of RFK. And the capacity was WAY BIGGER than RFK was......yet RFK was just as loud. I miss RFK and the NAME!!!! #HTTRedskins
What a special season this was. Just like every playoff season we've had over the last 20 or so years, start the year off slow but ending the season hot to make the playoffs. Especially after Sean Taylor passing away way too soon we played for him.

Jason Campbell wasn't that bad. Sure, he wasn't the solution, but I think he lost confidence over time as the O-line didn't protect him enough. He had a big arm, but a slow release.
Yeah… he also seemed like a decent guy. The kind you could root for. Wishing he found more success in his time with the Skins.

Dan Dierdorf is a terrible announcer.
This worked out better than the previous time the Redskins opened at home against Miami that would have been the 1984 opener. Dan Marino threw five touchdowns and the game made the cover of Sports Illustrated with a picture of Mark Duper catching a TD against Darrell Green and the title read "Air Raid." In the end the Redskins finished 11-5. #HTTR 4 Life.
