This was a great runaround to create breakout rooms through channels, but yes, breakout rooms have been added to the latest updates of Teams. Currently though, it is only available (that I know of) when you create your meeting from the Calendar... If you do, and your Teams app is updated, the Breakout feature is available..
@@ClassPoint Thanks. Please continue to do what you are doing. You've been a great help to me and my colleagues to whom I share many of your video tutorials.
@@edt61207 Glad that they were helpful and thank you so much for your kind words. It is a great encouragement for me and my team. Let me know if you have any topic suggestions that will help the teachers!
it seems to me that if you choose to add members to a channel you can no longer use the tasks app for that channel. I would like my groups to plan the tasks themselves in their channel. If I make the channels open I can add a task list to every channal.
I would not make channels private, if you want to prepare the rooms days in advance, since you won't know which students will be in class that day. If someone, or multiple people, are absent then the teams would have to be rebalanced. Yes, you can do that when the students are sitting in class, but then they need to wait for you to make changes and that may get chaotic.
You are exactly right! We are excited Teams is rolling this feature out; however, the feature is not fully released to everyone yet. This roundabout way can still be used until all teachers have access. We will have a new video out on how to use the new breakout rooms feature in Teams soon!
@@ClassPoint the problem is, as you know the rooms all open in new windows so it is not as easy to switch from room to room. I have 5 windows of meetings open plus teams pus my browser, it was a mess

Eva Bogard Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant so easy to understand
Thank you! Teams is rolling out the actual Breakout room feature, stay tuned :)
thanks, great job !
Thank you!
Why there is a lock sign next to the channel? Can we lock or hide the channels from students?
The lock sign next to the channel means it is private - so not all students have access to that channel.
@@ClassPoint Thank you so much for a prompt response
Does anyone know if students can initiate the call? I teach high schoolers and I want to give them that freedom.
Hi Claudia, students should be able to initiate the call. If they aren't able to, the settings can be updated in the Teams admin center!
It sends my guests into a waiting room that I have to admit them each time. How to bypass this?
You can change these settings in your Meeting options! Just change the settings for who can bypass the lobby.
This is not true. The new breakout rooms are being rolled out right now

This is not easy for the participants, but it will work. MS Teams, Breakout rooms can’t arrive fast enough!
@@mikebooker4671 hopefully it will be available for everyone soon!
