My high school aged granddaughter was visiting and I started playing The Guess Who, Lovin' Spoonful, Turtles and The Cyrkle. She fell in love with this era and that's all she wants to listen to on her visits. I'd say she has pretty good taste

I was at High School in North Vancouver BC from 1967 through 1972. The Guess Who were an inspiration for so many Canadian kids who formed garage bands with dreams of glory.
The Guess Who were my favorite band in middle school. Our parents really didn't want us listening to rock. But we listened at our friends' houses and on school outings. Then we snuck an album to keep at home. When my brother got a car, we bought an 8-track and listened in there. Their music was pure gold and I still love it!

Wow. Randy and Burton are STILL just a couple of very humble, genuine Canadian farm boys. After all these years, you can still see the powerful emotion in Burton's eyes when he talks about Junior Walker and All Stars recording the song...Awesome stuff.
Lived outside of Detroit from '93 - '00 and often ventured over the bridge to Windsor and points south. Recall reading local newspapers about Burton playing a private gig for a special family. In short, you're right, how could they be any more humble.
Randy Bachman is up there in my book! The man is a genius. And Burton Cummings the man can sing! Both The Guess Who and BTO should be in the hall of fame.
Randy is very intelligent and seems like he avoided the excesses of being a “rock star”. Always like it when successful people share insight and process. Years ago a very aged George Burns was on with Johnny Carson. I was interested in what a guy nearly 100 at the time could share. All he did was his tired old comedy routine, very disappointing. Mr Bachman and Mr Burton are generous to share their history. These guys don’t need the Hall of fame, their body of work speaks for itself.
@@mplsmark222 Why blame George Burns? I don't think one would expect anything else. Now if he had appeared on Dick Cavett, i would expect a more in-depth interview than what Carson would do. I liked both Carson and Cavett but they had two completely different shows.
The Guess Who are a criminally under-rated band. They were huge in the late 60s and early 70s. I would dare say they are Canada's biggest band (along with Rush). This song is classic Guess Who. Soulful to the core. That they aren't in the RRHOF is a joke. Of course the RRHOF is a joke. Thanks for this Professor. You really hit it out of the park on this one.
Here in Australia it is Nickleback and Loverboy the biggest Canadian bands followed by B.T.O ,Rush did not chart here at all and Guess Who never went higher than 27 here
These Eyes was the first international hit for a Canadian rock band. They were a good band and deserve the RHoF along with BTO. But neither band compares to Rush.
They definitely belong in The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. I love These Eyes. Their music is loved by many generations of fans over many decades🎶🇨🇦🥰🤠🥂🎶🇨🇦🥰
The Guess Who had one of the best bassists ever too. These Eyes and Undun both have amazing bass lines. I agree that they should be in the R&R hall of fame, but their success speaks for itself.
It just goes to prove how shallow the R&R Hall of fame has become that I did not think it really matters anymore. Great music never dies and becomes part of our mental wallpaper. Just keep playing these great classic bands when our kids are around and it filters down into their music choices.

So much for the credibility of Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. I was 16 in 69. Drivers license, 8 track tunes in the car and Guess Who was playing on the loop. Vivid memories of the best music in history and not just Guess Who, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s. Then autotune ruined music.
One of my favorite videos that you've done! Quick story, A friend gave me a copy of the video of "The Guess Who - Running back thru Canada". After my 26 year old nephew died of a sudden heart attack, we booked a cottage with my wife's sister and her husband. We were all so rattled at the sudden loss of such a young man. I suggested, maybe a concert video might be nice to watch. I put the Guess Who on and once the concert started, we were mesmerized. We sang every song with the band. It was such a fantastic healing time. One of the best 2.5 hours we have ever had. If you haven't had a chance to see Running Back Thru Canada, the band were totally on their game! Highly recommended.

I was in a garage band in Fort St John, BC when Shakin All Over came out. It absolutely blew me away! We learned it as quick as we could. At that time it was one of the best rock and roll songs I'd ever heard. That and Roadhouse Blues by The Doors are my two favourites from that era. Then the hits just started rolling out one after the other from the Guess Who and they just got better and better! These Eyes is still one of my all time favourites! The other thing a lot of people don't realize is that these guys were consummate musicians. No C, F,, and G chord progressions for them! Minor 7th's, 7th's, flats, etc. pretty much unheard of, let a lone used in rock music. The fact that they are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is ludicrous! They should be there as a band, and Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings should be there as songwriters as well!!
Not only my favorite Guess Who songs, but one of my favorite songs period. It always takes me back to the most difficult breakup I ever experienced. It is a cathartic song for me. One of those songs I have to sing at the top of my lungs

Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings are both members of Canada's Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame for their work with the Guess Who. The band struck monster hits in the US first though and had strings of hit singles and albums here for almost a decade. It's absolutely ridiculous that they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame here in the States! And you picked my favorite Guess Who song to spotlight too! As a fellow Canadian, I'm extremely proud of the legacy The Guess Who, left behind. Truly an incredible band, by any standards. I've often felt there's a bias against Canadian bands, in voting for rock and roll fame induction. Look at how long it took Rush to get in. It's criminal, the Guess Who, still aren't in. Not to mention the fact, that both Burton and Randy went on to other successful ventures. And, very successful ventures at that. Canada has had many amazing bands that most Americans have never heard of. The Tragically Hip and Blue Rodeo, being a couple of prime examples.

In 1970 I was 16 years old, living and working as a Life Guard in Erie, Pennsylvania and the Guess Who ruled the summer. I came home after Labor Day to go back to high school and that band was a part of my life forever. Thank you gentlemen!
My first concert was BTO at the CNE (Toronto) in 1974 and I saw a ton of shows shortly after which were iconic. The R&R HOF got a thumbs up when we finally got Rush inducted in 2013, Dolly last year was a step back. The Guess Who, Supertramp, Jethro Tull, etc all deserve a place.
You know, Professor, I *liked* so many of these songs and artists that you cover, but after watching the interviews, it actually almost makes me LOVE them.
I'm constantly surprised to be reminded of how many great songs The Guess Who had..... I had no idea they had 14 top 40 songs. This song I remember very clearly being played on the radio when I still was in elementary school. Even at that age I was prone to the occasional crush and this song became part of a wistful soundtrack of innocent romantic longing. I can see the clock radio that used to sit on my headboard that play music to wake me up when I hear this song. White body, black front panel, white numbers and a red second hand. It also brass colored hand indicator for setting the alarm time. It's amazing the things that music can cause you to remember.
I love hearing the back stories from the guys that lived it. I also appreciate your interviewing style. You don’t interrupt or talk over your guests. 60s and 70s era rock-n-roll is the greatest. Well done, Professor!
Living in Winnipeg where both these guys are from, they are legends here. Grew up listening to them on the radio. You couldn’t ask for a more down to earth star than Randy Bachman!
I love these interviews with older bands and getting them to tell their stories. Glad you are the one giving us a chance to relive the older eras of rock n roll and interviewing the people who made it. Lots of people forget how influential these bands and songs are. A lot of these artists won’t be here for much longer, and I’m glad you get these great stories out there.
I was 12 in 1969, "These Eyes" was one of the first rock songs that I locked onto. I was a major Guess Who fan pretty much all my life. From 18 to forty in the Marines, the music from my youth drove and motivated us all. I've been running across these videos showcasing my music history for a couple years now, and really enjoying the facts I never knew.
It is so refreshing to hear guys that have been so incredibly blessed be excited and grateful and not pompous and arrogant. Minnesota loves these guys and they exhibit the character qualities we highly esteemed growing up. What a blessing they and their songs have been!!💯
My brother and I bought our first 45s in ‘69, cutouts for a nickel apiece. Mine was “I Fought the Law” by the Bobby Fuller Four and my brother’s was These Eyes. I played the crap out of mine for several months but have not ever heard the song in decades. I could listen to These Eyes 100 times in a row and still not tire of it.
One of the secrets in their song writing was having a cool riff with edge which the guys would love, but then the chorus was so melodic that the girls would go for it too.
My wife and I would sing this song together when we'd hear it while driving. When our boys were young, and we'd drive around with their friends, we'd sing it louder and louder and they'd get so embarrassed! Needless to say it brings back so many fond memories. We still sing it when the boys are around.
I just love these guys and the interviews you do with them. You are so right that they are the best story tellers. And of course their music is incredible. That they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a crime and an embarrassment for the Hof. Thank you so much for bringing another half hour of pure joy to my day, Adam. I was so lucky to grow up with a father who had a love and passion for great music. He instilled that in me from an early age. "These eyes" was one of his favorite songs both rhythmically and lyrically, so of course it became one of mine. I remember the day I met my wife, not only did her beauty floor me, but when I looked into her eyes and I noticed that they were a mesmerizing natural copper color. She always said the first thing she noticed about me was my eyes, which are ice blue. On our first date, I sang "These eyes" to her, and she started to cry, not because of my singing, but no one had ever sang to her before. 25 yrs and 4 children with gorgeous eyes later, we are still happily married, and "These eyes" has always been "our" song.
One of my ALL TIME favorite groups. They were HUGE back in the '60's & '70's. So many hits & their deep cuts were good too. So many memories come into my mind whenever I hear a song by them. Love Burton's Stand Tall.
Saw Burton and Randy at a barely advertised gig in a small venue near Omaha in the late 80's. . It was like everybody was relaxed and just having fun. Freaking great time that I won't forget.
Great interview, love these guys. Hilarious when they get together and Burton jokes onstage before they do a BTO song about Randy writing this song when he wasn't too happy with me... Then he sings it with him ! So funny, nice they have been able to bury the past. Reminds me of TFF with Curt and Roland joking about songs Roland wrote solo about Curt...Now they're best of friends.
As a Clevelander, I wince a little every time Adam scolds the Rock Hall. Anybody else? 😂😭 Also, I could listen to Randy tell stories about music forever. So nostalgic!!
So many great memories of my Mom listening to the Guess who when I was a kid. Meeting Burton Cummings when I was 9 years old was such a turning point for me in my life. One of the main reasons I pursued making music.

I had the great fortune of seeing The Guess Who twice and both Randy and Burton solo one time each. Randy told stories all through his set and it was just him and his wife doing tambourine and backing vocals; it was so great. I honestly wasn't aware they weren't in the R&R HOF, it just seems like a given that they would be in there. Wolfman Jack would be very displeased about this.
I heard "No Time" as a ten year old and ran out and bought the 45, I then back tracked to "These Eyes" and I bought every Guess Who single as they were released.. Still have "em! Too young to see the Guess Who, saw BTO and they crushed Nassau Coliseum!!!! I could listen to Randy Bachman's stories all night long! Rock n' Roll Hall of Shame? Who cares?!!! True fans know who belongs.

I love reminiscing about my teenage years, and the Guess Whov was one of those bands that we loved to hear, so those 45s and 33s were getting pretty scratchy after a while. Awesome band, thank you for the good times, Randy, Burt, and the rest of the guys at the Guess Who. Professor of Rock, you rock!
I grew up near Toronto, Ontario and was on a high school class trip to New York City. We were in a diner for lunch one day and they had a radio playing behind the counter. These Eyes came on and the waitress turned up the volume for all to hear. Although we lived over 1,200 miles from Winnipeg, we swelled up with pride for our fellow Canadians like they were our neighbors. Every time I hear this song, I think of that day. They are in the HOF as far as I am concerned.
I always enjoy hearing the stories from randy and burton. Please do more interviews with them. I grew up listening to them. Their music was an integral part of my life. Their music is awesome. They opened the doors for other talented canadian musicians. Makes me proud to be a canadian.
I've always enjoyed The Guess Who's music. My favorite song from them is a tie between "These Eyes" and "No Time". The Guess Who are one of a long list of artists that I can think of who has unfairly been snubbed by The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Their omission is ridiculous.

Great interview! When this song was released, I had just broken up with my sweetheart, and this song epitomized the heart ache I felt so much that I couldn’t listen to it, so I stopped. Now, I find this this video interview 54 years later! And I realize what a great song “These Eyes” really is.
Randy looks great, I freakin' love this guy, I watched the Vinyl Tap Every Song Tells a story, and since that I've watched at least 20 of different interviews, he's highly underrated in my opinion. Him and Burton were one hell of a team to say the least and of course BTO, just killer, timeless stuff.

This episode was such a joy to watch! I had a smile on my face the whole time - and you are right... Randy Bachman is an excellent storyteller. I loved learning about the Zombies' influence on the sound, and of course the genesis of how it was written. I noticed too that Burton Cummings' eyes were getting wet, perhaps a sign of how much he was relishing the memories.
I first heard the Guess Who is a 10 year old digging through his older brothers eight track tapes. That was about 50 years ago! I always love it when I hear the music come on the radio.
Saw Guess Who/BTO at Tommy's bar in Deep Ellum Dallas in 1987 with a mix of new members for both bands. What a catalog of music and in such a small venue....It was one of the best concerts I've ever experienced.
My first memory of The Guess Who was back in the early 90s. I picked up a greatest hits CD and thought "is this some Who tribute band?". I then started looking at the tracks on the jacket and was like i know that song, and that song, and holy crap these guys are amazing! I never knew that they sang all those great songs. Not being in the HoF is indefensible.
I really do love listening to these guys. I'd like to be able to sit and chat with them for a couple of hours or just hang out for a day and take in all of the stories. As always, thank you so much for all that you do for us and the music.
Randy & Burton’s “These Eyes” as recorded by “The Guess Who” may have been a monster of it’s time, but it’s remained a monster classic to this day. It’s TIMELESS. Same with so many of the Guess Who hits (“Laughing”, “Undun”, “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature”, “No Time”, “American Woman”, “Hand Me Down World”, “Share The Land”, “Clap For The Wolfman”). Burton is still my all-time favorite vocalist. There are other vocalists with worldclass talent such as Steve Perry (Journey), Brad Delp (Boston), David Pack (Ambrosia), Marty Balin (Jefferson Starship), Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), and of course the late great Glen Campbell of the legendary “Wrecking Crew”. I LOVE listening to all of those gifted vocalists singing their songs, but if I were to be forced into listening to only one vocalist for the rest of my life and I had to make that choice, it would be Burton Cummings - no hesitation!

Just like the RRHOF. Those first few notes of These Eyes break my heart every single time I hear them. The Guess Who don't just belong IN the RRHOF ... they should have their own wing.

Here in Australia it is Nickleback and Loverboy the biggest Canadian bands followed by B.T.O ,Rush did not chart here at all and Guess Who never went higher than 27 here
These Eyes was the first international hit for a Canadian rock band. They were a good band and deserve the RHoF along with BTO. But neither band compares to Rush.

The Guess Who had one of the best bassists ever too. These Eyes and Undun both have amazing bass lines. I agree that they should be in the R&R hall of fame, but their success speaks for itself.

It just goes to prove how shallow the R&R Hall of fame has become that I did not think it really matters anymore. Great music never dies and becomes part of our mental wallpaper. Just keep playing these great classic bands when our kids are around and it filters down into their music choices.

So much for the credibility of Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. I was 16 in 69. Drivers license, 8 track tunes in the car and Guess Who was playing on the loop. Vivid memories of the best music in history and not just Guess Who, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s. Then autotune ruined music.

Quick story, A friend gave me a copy of the video of "The Guess Who - Running back thru Canada".
After my 26 year old nephew died of a sudden heart attack, we booked a cottage with my wife's sister and her husband. We were all so rattled at the sudden loss of such a young man. I suggested, maybe a concert video might be nice to watch.
I put the Guess Who on and once the concert started, we were mesmerized.
We sang every song with the band.
It was such a fantastic healing time. One of the best 2.5 hours we have ever had.
If you haven't had a chance to see Running Back Thru Canada, the band were totally on their game!
Highly recommended.

Nothing today can ever compare to the 70-80s music! Unbelievable talent we will never see again.
I was in a garage band in Fort St John, BC when Shakin All Over came out. It absolutely blew me away! We learned it as quick as we could. At that time it was one of the best rock and roll songs I'd ever heard. That and Roadhouse Blues by The Doors are my two favourites from that era. Then the hits just started rolling out one after the other from the Guess Who and they just got better and better! These Eyes is still one of my all time favourites! The other thing a lot of people don't realize is that these guys were consummate musicians. No C, F,, and G chord progressions for them! Minor 7th's, 7th's, flats, etc. pretty much unheard of, let a lone used in rock music. The fact that they are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is ludicrous! They should be there as a band, and Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings should be there as songwriters as well!!

Not only my favorite Guess Who songs, but one of my favorite songs period. It always takes me back to the most difficult breakup I ever experienced. It is a cathartic song for me. One of those songs I have to sing at the top of my lungs

This song almost makes me tear up every time I hear it. It transports me back to 1969, when I remember it playing in our junior high lunchroom. It conjures up such innocence and sweetness, I can almost taste it.

Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings are both members of Canada's Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame for their work with the Guess Who. The band struck monster hits in the US first though and had strings of hit singles and albums here for almost a decade. It's absolutely ridiculous that they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame here in the States! And you picked my favorite Guess Who song to spotlight too! Thanks so much for that and the wonderful interview with Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings! Two truly outstanding men of rock,n'roll!
As a fellow Canadian, I'm extremely proud of the legacy The Guess Who, left behind. Truly an incredible band, by any standards. I've often felt there's a bias against Canadian bands, in voting for rock and roll fame induction. Look at how long it took Rush to get in. It's criminal, the Guess Who, still aren't in. Not to mention the fact, that both Burton and Randy went on to other successful ventures. And, very successful ventures at that. Canada has had many amazing bands that most Americans have never heard of. The Tragically Hip and Blue Rodeo, being a couple of prime examples.
They just flat out ignore Canadian legends.

I agree with you they belong in the hall of fame. So many great songs and Burton Cummings is one the greatest voices in R&R history. And BTO needs to belong as well. These songs, these productions, are outstanding.
Randy is one of the best rock storytellers out there, I've spent countless of nights listening to Vinyl Tap on CBC before the hockey game.
The Guess Who are one of our iconic Canadian bands. I saw Randy Bachman 8 times live and met him. I saw Burton Cummings 4 times live and met him. They have so many great songs. Cheers!✌️🇨🇦

In 1970 I was 16 years old, living and working as a Life Guard in Erie, Pennsylvania and the Guess Who ruled the summer. I came home after Labor Day to go back to high school and that band was a part of my life forever. Thank you gentlemen!
My first concert was BTO at the CNE (Toronto) in 1974 and I saw a ton of shows shortly after which were iconic. The R&R HOF got a thumbs up when we finally got Rush inducted in 2013, Dolly last year was a step back. The Guess Who, Supertramp, Jethro Tull, etc all deserve a place.

I'm constantly surprised to be reminded of how many great songs The Guess Who had..... I had no idea they had 14 top 40 songs. This song I remember very clearly being played on the radio when I still was in elementary school. Even at that age I was prone to the occasional crush and this song became part of a wistful soundtrack of innocent romantic longing. I can see the clock radio that used to sit on my headboard that play music to wake me up when I hear this song.
White body, black front panel, white numbers and a red second hand. It also brass colored hand indicator for setting the alarm time.
It's amazing the things that music can cause you to remember.

Living in Winnipeg where both these guys are from, they are legends here. Grew up listening to them on the radio. You couldn’t ask for a more down to earth star than Randy Bachman!
I love these interviews with older bands and getting them to tell their stories. Glad you are the one giving us a chance to relive the older eras of rock n roll and interviewing the people who made it. Lots of people forget how influential these bands and songs are. A lot of these artists won’t be here for much longer, and I’m glad you get these great stories out there.
Born in 65 and growing up listening to bands like The Guess Who. Yeah they definitely should be in the Hall of Fame.
Not only are these guys innovators, they are humble and grateful. Timeless songs, I will listen to forever.
I was 12 in 1969, "These Eyes" was one of the first rock songs that I locked onto. I was a major Guess Who fan pretty much all my life. From 18 to forty in the Marines, the music from my youth drove and motivated us all. I've been running across these videos showcasing my music history for a couple years now, and really enjoying the facts I never knew.
It is so refreshing to hear guys that have been so incredibly blessed be excited and grateful and not pompous and arrogant. Minnesota loves these guys and they exhibit the character qualities we highly esteemed growing up. What a blessing they and their songs have been!!💯
My brother and I bought our first 45s in ‘69, cutouts for a nickel apiece. Mine was “I Fought the Law” by the Bobby Fuller Four and my brother’s was These Eyes. I played the crap out of mine for several months but have not ever heard the song in decades. I could listen to These Eyes 100 times in a row and still not tire of it.
One of the secrets in their song writing was having a cool riff with edge which the guys would love, but then the chorus was so melodic that the girls would go for it too.
My wife and I would sing this song together when we'd hear it while driving. When our boys were young, and we'd drive around with their friends, we'd sing it louder and louder and they'd get so embarrassed! Needless to say it brings back so many fond memories. We still sing it when the boys are around.
I just love these guys and the interviews you do with them. You are so right that they are the best story tellers. And of course their music is incredible. That they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a crime and an embarrassment for the Hof. Thank you so much for bringing another half hour of pure joy to my day, Adam. I was so lucky to grow up with a father who had a love and passion for great music. He instilled that in me from an early age. "These eyes" was one of his favorite songs both rhythmically and lyrically, so of course it became one of mine. I remember the day I met my wife, not only did her beauty floor me, but when I looked into her eyes and I noticed that they were a mesmerizing natural copper color. She always said the first thing she noticed about me was my eyes, which are ice blue. On our first date, I sang "These eyes" to her, and she started to cry, not because of my singing, but no one had ever sang to her before. 25 yrs and 4 children with gorgeous eyes later, we are still happily married, and "These eyes" has always been "our" song.
One of my ALL TIME favorite groups. They were HUGE back in the '60's & '70's. So many hits & their deep cuts were good too. So many memories come into my mind whenever I hear a song by them. Love Burton's Stand Tall.
They had a lot of influence.
Saw Burton and Randy at a barely advertised gig in a small venue near Omaha in the late 80's. . It was like everybody was relaxed and just having fun.

Great interview, love these guys. Hilarious when they get together and Burton jokes onstage before they do a BTO song about Randy writing this song when he wasn't too happy with me... Then he sings it with him ! So funny, nice they have been able to bury the past. Reminds me of TFF with Curt and Roland joking about songs Roland wrote solo about Curt...Now they're best of friends.
As a Clevelander, I wince a little every time Adam scolds the Rock Hall. Anybody else? 😂😭

So many great memories of my Mom listening to the Guess who when I was a kid. Meeting Burton Cummings when I was 9 years old was such a turning point for me in my life. One of the main reasons I pursued making music.
Folks like Burton can and do have huge influence on folks. In your case, enough to pursue a career.

My all time favorite song, thank you so much professor for hooking up with Randy and Burton. It’s so wonderful to hear about their collaborative work. I can remember standing on a chair to reach the volume knob of the radio on the kitchen counter and looking at my mom and smiling when I would turn it up a bit…they more than deserve to be in the rrhof. ❤
'No Time' by The Guess Who got me into rock, first hearing it ~1970 when I was 12 years old. When it plays still, volume goes way up, stop talking people. Top 10 songs of all time for me!

I had the great fortune of seeing The Guess Who twice and both Randy and Burton solo one time each. Randy told stories all through his set and it was just him and his wife doing tambourine and backing vocals; it was so great. I honestly wasn't aware they weren't in the R&R HOF, it just seems like a given that they would be in there. Wolfman Jack would be very displeased about this.

I heard "No Time" as a ten year old and ran out and bought the 45, I then back tracked to "These Eyes" and I bought every Guess Who single as they were released.. Still have "em! Too young to see the Guess Who, saw BTO and they crushed Nassau Coliseum!!!! I could listen to Randy Bachman's stories all night long! Rock n' Roll Hall of Shame? Who cares?!!! True fans know who belongs.
Both musical legends interviewing on one of their greatest songs, awesome. These 2 could write a classic in 10 minutes and it would be like nothing else being down at the time. To think they aren't in the Hall of Fame speaks more about the Hall of Fame than anything, travesty! Great episode professor! I hope there is more like laughing and no sugar tonight and no time!

I love reminiscing about my teenage years, and the Guess Whov was one of those bands that we loved to hear, so those 45s and 33s were getting pretty scratchy after a while.

I grew up near Toronto, Ontario and was on a high school class trip to New York City. We were in a diner for lunch one day and they had a radio playing behind the counter. These Eyes came on and the waitress turned up the volume for all to hear. Although we lived over 1,200 miles from Winnipeg, we swelled up with pride for our fellow Canadians like they were our neighbors. Every time I hear this song, I think of that day. They are in the HOF as far as I am concerned.
I always enjoy hearing the stories from randy and burton. Please do more interviews with them. I grew up listening to them. Their music was an integral part of my life. Their music is awesome. They opened the doors for other talented canadian musicians. Makes me proud to be a canadian.
These Eyes is a phenomenal song and These Guys definitely belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I've always enjoyed The Guess Who's music. My favorite song from them is a tie between "These Eyes" and "No Time". The Guess Who are one of a long list of artists that I can think of who has unfairly been snubbed by The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Their omission is ridiculous.

Love these guys! My first album purchase was American Woman. Burton has the most unique and beautiful voice in rock history and Randy's riffs are notched into my soul - def should be I hall of fame!
Great interview! When this song was released, I had just broken up with my sweetheart, and this song epitomized the heart ache I felt so much that I couldn’t listen to it, so I stopped. Now, I find this this video interview 54 years later! And I realize what a great song “These Eyes” really is.
Randy looks great, I freakin' love this guy, I watched the Vinyl Tap Every Song Tells a story, and since that I've watched at least 20 of different interviews, he's highly underrated in my opinion. Him and Burton were one hell of a team to say the least and of course BTO, just killer, timeless stuff.

This episode was such a joy to watch! I had a smile on my face the whole time - and you are right... Randy Bachman is an excellent storyteller. I loved learning about the Zombies' influence on the sound, and of course the genesis of how it was written. I noticed too that Burton Cummings' eyes were getting wet, perhaps a sign of how much he was relishing the memories.
It was so sweet, the power of music.
I first heard the Guess Who is a 10 year old digging through his older brothers eight track tapes. That was about 50 years ago! I always love it when I hear the music come on the radio.
Saw Guess Who/BTO at Tommy's bar in Deep Ellum Dallas in 1987 with a mix of new members for both bands. What a catalog of music and in such a small venue....It was one of the best concerts I've ever experienced.

My first memory of The Guess Who was back in the early 90s. I picked up a greatest hits CD and thought "is this some Who tribute band?". I then started looking at the tracks on the jacket and was like i know that song, and that song, and holy crap these guys are amazing! I never knew that they sang all those great songs. Not being in the HoF is indefensible.
I really do love listening to these guys. I'd like to be able to sit and chat with them for a couple of hours or just hang out for a day and take in all of the stories. As always, thank you so much for all that you do for us and the music.

Such great music from 2 humble, grateful artists. They marked an era and their music is timeless.
Randy & Burton’s “These Eyes” as recorded by “The Guess Who” may have been a monster of it’s time, but it’s remained a monster classic to this day. It’s TIMELESS. Same with so many of the Guess Who hits (“Laughing”, “Undun”, “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature”, “No Time”, “American Woman”, “Hand Me Down World”, “Share The Land”, “Clap For The Wolfman”).
Burton is still my all-time favorite vocalist. There are other vocalists with worldclass talent such as Steve Perry (Journey), Brad Delp (Boston), David Pack (Ambrosia), Marty Balin (Jefferson Starship), Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), and of course the late great Glen Campbell of the legendary “Wrecking Crew”. I LOVE listening to all of those gifted vocalists singing their songs, but if I were to be forced into listening to only one vocalist for the rest of my life and I had to make that choice, it would be Burton Cummings - no hesitation!

Thank you, Professor, for this video. I am a 58 year old homogenized white boy, and if you grew up with this music, and didn't get a little weepy a couple times during this video, you have no heart. Just like the RRHOF. Those first few notes of These Eyes break my heart every single time I hear them. The Guess Who don't just belong IN the RRHOF ... they should have their own wing.

Randy had a great show on CBC radio 2 hours every Saturday night. He didn't drink or do drugs and he remembers everything.
