I was introduced to this song by ads. My experience with songs on ads is that they're never good enough. But this, is a hidden gem. Catchy song and good music video. 8/10 had an enjoyable experience.
Discovered Sumia via spotify and instantly began a fan (probably been almost a year of listening now) as the music he produces is very very good for character writing and angst in general. Absolute banger of a song, Sumia needs more subs!
I can't help but feel that there is more to the story in the amv than what initailly seems... (Long theory comment warning!) The story in the amv seems to portray Yu-chan (dark hair, white dress), who is a player in a videogame, and her mission is to defeat "the dark lord", who is implied to be Lilith (purple haired). Lilith is very playful and has a lot of fun teasing Yu-chan, but she doesn't care. Yu is more straight-forward and wants to get the job done as quick as possible. (We can also judge that from the concept arts in the amv animator's "behind the scenes" video) And yet... I've noticed signs that suggest there is more to the story than simple bickering between the protagonist and the villain. Over time I've thought up of some theories of what could be actually happening in the video. **Theory 1: Yu-chan is actually the Dark Lord, not Lilith.** My reasoning: My first suspicion were the grey segments where we can see Lilith attacking Yu-chan in the spirit of typical vidoe games combat as if the roles were reversed and Lilith was the player instead. At the beginning of the video Yu looks like she is on some kind of prison, like she was supposed to be confined in there, but broke out and now must be stopped (but it could be assumed to be a regular starting area, maybe she was imprisoned by Lilith and got out). One could also argue that the reson she is so straightforward to kill Lilith is to get rid of the "complication" as soon as possible. Not to mention Yu's smile at the end of the video, it doesn't seem to me like mere satisfaction of defeating a villain. It feels kinda scary and sinister. But i have scrapped this theory. **Theory 2: Both Lilith and Yu are dark lords and are deadly rivals.** I thought up of this theory at 1:31 where Lilith and Yu were marked as Player 1 and Player 2, suggesting they are at some kind of equal level. But who knows, at first I thought it was miscommunication with the amv artist. There's also proof for that in the Artist's Behind the scenes video, there is a segment that says "Two girls with dark power, hunt eachother and play together" **Theory 3 (final): Lilith is corrupting Yu somehow, so she can become the next Dark Lord.** I think this is the most probable theory. Lilith knows that Yu is going to stop her, so instead she decides to corrupt her heart and make her evil. The proofs i introduced earlier could favor that too! Lilith attacking Yu video-game style, breaking her spirit and to "defeat" her. Lilith and Yu being both marked as players, because both of them have their own very important task whose lifes depend on its completion. Yu looking shocked and unwell at 1:36, maybe slowly losing her mind because of her corruption slowly taking over her mind. Also whenever Yu was shown as evil, it was a result of Lilith's corruption. Not to mention, this theory can be favored by the song's lyrics! About being dyed with darkness and it overflowing, "Your sense is good as dead", because Yu doesn't even realize that she's being corrupted. Not to mention the title - "Darker Darker".
