    The fact you are building it out ways the people complaining!! I love to build things they don't always work or work properly but every time I try it's another step on the ladder and it's my ladder and I am the only one using it. Thank you for your time and work.

    Mike, every video you post, I learn something new, in all my 60 years of being in electronics repair and as a hobbyist, this is the first time I heard of the Franklin Oscillator. Your inspiring me to build and try some of the circuits you cover in videos.

    Mike, excellent video and topic, this is exactly what I want to do. Anyone that criticizes your builds, has no clue what this hobby is about. Anyone being critical is either jealous of your knowledge or has nothing better to do but sit on their butts and complain. You sir, have provided us valuable information with the history of radio and and given us vast amounts of knowledge to love this hobby even more. I can't commend you enough for what you have done. You keep on making these videos and I will keep on watching AND Learning. - Mike, KC0IVF

    Great job as always! Thanks for taking on this project, sharing it with us and making it more than a kit that only teaches you how to solder.

      Soldering is a whole other learning experience, and especially when you grab the wrong end!

    Another great project. This is something I will build, I really like the idea of a crystal SW receiver and a BFO makes it really useful.

    Mike, I built the first shot wave radio that you done. With a little time, I got a couple of signals in my ear phone, lol. I got it as close as what yours looks like. I am still having antenna problems but slowly working that out. Thanks for all the fun . You explain things so that some like myself as a beginner can understand.

    Outstanding as usual, Mike.
    An awful lot to digest here, but you continue to inspire and educate here.
    Please keep up the great work.

      There are some crazy alternate methods and devices out there, and the tunnel diode represents one of those. How a diode can provde the basis for an oscillator or even an amplifier are black magic circuit areas.

      we have frequently obtained amplification of as much as ten times in current and correspondingly as much as a hundred times in energy. Negative resistance does bring energy from the ambient. It was discussed in the IRE journal 1915 as well. US1141717A

    A Q multiplier is used by hams to increase the number of contacts (QSO). The Franklin oscillator was invented by Franklin Roosevelt.

    I was watching crystal radio videos......before giggling at your solar cell quip directed at the "Sallys", I was wondering if it would be possible to gain enough power by using RF sources to charge a cap that was then used to drive an amplifier or some other powered feature to enhance a crystal radio.

    • @MIKROWAVE1
      @MIKROWAVE1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and all you need is a pesky close broadcast station that you want to reject anyway. So maybe we make the TRAP send the bad juice to the power collector which handles the radio power.

    Hi Michael, as the BFO will be operating at the same frequency as the xtal set, would it not be possible to use a twin gang capacitor to tune both. My old Marconi CR200 (2-V-2) used to do just that.

    • @MIKROWAVE1
      @MIKROWAVE1  ปีที่แล้ว

      This was done in the pre-ww2 Western Electric aircraft receivers and some Navy TRFs as well. It is possible and practical - but demanding on the mechanicals to track a BFO across more than a small band.

    The balanced modulator schematic is similar to a ring modulator I built for a friend that played electronic music. I placed the circuit in a Earl grey tea can. I used another can as a signal generator based on a 8038 oscillator i.c The 8038 oscillator oscillator requires 4 or 5 other discreet components and works with a 9 volt battery. Its very simple and provides square triangle and sine outputs at 0- 20,000hz..The chip is no longer made but can be found online. If anyone knows where to find the transformers let me know

      A lot of folks ask about wonderful early linear arrays, phase locked Loops, and Mosfets that are becoming unobtanium. I remember working with the 703 IF Amp, The CA-2028, CA3089, 3N128, 40763 and many others that I just have to avoid pushing because it frustrates builders. I try to stick with the through hole parts that are more generic.

      Some folks come for the theory, some for the build, some for history, and some just for silly geek entertainment.
