@ddotg8 This was filmed in the first year of operation for the ride. At that time they were only using ONE train all day long, all season. Hence the very long line. They didn't start using the second train until the second year.
yes, the line segment was filmed during the first year of operation. They only had one train operation for the entire year plus the ride was "new", hence the extremely long lines. Other portions were filmed in the next couple of years after two train operation.
Thank you for the compliment. I've put up a few other videos of different rides in the park. They're nothing special. I'm trying to get the Thunderboplt and Jackrabbit videos edited and put up but it takes time (which I don't have a whole lot of these days). But i'm working on it. Hardly have any footage of the Raceer seeing its hard to get any decent shots of it, cant get close enough.
no, they don't use tickets anymore, you can go on whatever you want, as many times as you want with an all-day pass. its soo awesome. favorite park and ride ever. AMEN TO THAT
The shots in this video actually take place over a couple of years. The shots of the line were from the first year, the year that they only ran one train all summer. Thats why the lines were as long as they were. Plus given the fact that it was a "new" ride.
No, they use two trains during normal operations. However they did have to use only one train for the first year. They had problems with the speed on certain parts of the track and had to add some check brakes before running two trains.
Yes, that first year they only had one train running. It has to deal with the fact that some trim brakes needed installed to slow the train before coming to the station.
Since they made the change from Steel Phantom to Phantoms Revenge they found that the trains were running a little faster and the check brakes located just before the train comes into the station were not able to stop the train on them in case another train was still in the station. They made the decision, until other brakes could be installed, to go with just one train for safety. Don't want any accidents in the station because they coldn't stop one train from hitting another.
this video sent me into a deep depression...who knew ya could actually miss kennywood THAT bad in the winter? well actually AFTER i watched it i was depressed cause it made me miss kennywood, but while i was watching it and hearing the chain, i felt just so happy its undescribable
@hymnsinger5 If I remember correctly, this line took at least an hour to get through, maybe a little more. It was taken during the first season and they were only operating one train throughout the whole season. That didn't help the line situation
@kpdave yeah the line is just a straight run from the building over to the music express now. and it really never makes it longer than a 30 min line except on like special days
@superrockstar411 I would suppose that the line would look different now. This video was filmed during the rides first year. So combining it being the first year and the fact that they only ran one train all year long (two train operation didn't start until the second year) and you get super long lines like this.
I hope that someday you can get to the park and ride it. Its really a great coaster IMO. One good thing is that they added magnetic brakes fot the second year so that they can run two trains. The brakes are located on the little hill right before coming into the station. So if you do make it here your wait will bew very much shorter. You can usually walk right up to the platform. The wait for the front seat is the longest of any seat but I love the view you get from there.
This video must just be when it first opened cause i was there twice in the las few weeks and the line wasnt anywhere near that long. Its a great ride by the way.
i don't remember there being an information board that tells what its like 2 sit in certain seats on the ride. anyway love ths ride especially da first hill. I can't wait 2 go 2 kennywood ths summer! The longest i've ever been in 4 da Phantom's Revenge was only 40 minutes.
wow, that is the longest i have ever cn that line, and i go there every year a few times. thats crazy, im glad i get the good days, wen it isnt disgustingly long like that :D. i love kennywood
It's cool to have those factoids there (I never knew that stuff about where to sit for which type of experience). And you need something to read in the line!
Actually it was a spanish company that bought Kennywood Entertainment which includes Sandcastle, Lake Compounce, Idlewild and other properties. I don't think there will be any major changes anytime soon. NO management is changing and no infrastructure changes will take place. I believe this is just the only way that the remaining family members that were interested in managing the park could "buy out" the other 100 members so that the ENTIRE family did not have a say in the company's future.
Kennywood is da best place eva! Da park is so classical and vintage, the rides r amazing! and da food is delicous. I cnt wait 2 go on monday! my school's picnic is that day. n I cnt wait 2 ride da phantoms revenge wit my friends!
there is always somewhat of a line depends on the day if it's a sunny warm day there is a long line if it is somewhat cloudy and coldish out there will be no line.
is it really? is it morgan track? do you know where i could find info on this? sorry for the 20 questions, but it's my home coaster. this sounds awesome!
@superrockstar411 This is the Phantom from Pittsburgh. So it would be the same one you went on. As far as I know there is only one Phantom's Revenge and this is it.
They stopped selling individual tickets a few years ago and went to a Ride All Day for everyone. I've only been to Kennywood once this year so I can't comment about the lines for a sunday, sorry
wait indeed! I went there on a Sunday, least busy day, and I saw the line set-up. I can just imagen how long that would be!!!! Give you at least a 3 or 4 hour wait for a 2 minute ride DX The FYI for the front car is so true! My eyes got dried out and started tearing because of the wind!!!
TOOOOOTALLY! I WANT TO LAUGH IN THE FACE OF WHOEVER DOESN'T LIVE IN PITTSBURGH AND CAN'T GO TO KENNYWOOD! I was looking up Kennywood videos because I'm so excited about our school picnic! Can't wait!
For sure, it was long. I can't remember just how long it took to get thru it. It was caused by them running just one train for the entire first season.
i love roller coasters. i have to sit this ride. i've yet to sit a roller coaster that gave me the sensation i felt when i bungee-ed. any recommendation?! and ladybug? wad's that?
the first time i went on this i about screamed my head off. when i went the line wasnt as long but it was kinda long. my hair was all messed up after it lol
This one is SO much better than the Steel Phantom!! Smoother ride when compared to the other at Kennywood. I'm kind of sick of Kennywood though... been there TOO many times!!
Well that was the first year it was opened, and I wanted to get the whole ride experience including the long line you had to wait in. lol. I wish they would have let me take the camcorder on the ride but they wouldn't, hence no on ride video. I would guess that the videos posted on TH-cam of on ride shots were made by people sneaking their cameras on the ride. But they do have a policy of not allowing cameras of any kind on rides.
well the ride is SOOOOO much smoother, and faster. It is also a longer ride than before. sence they changed it its ratings have gone way up. its in the top ten best coasters for most people.
I would have liked to take shots from the front seat (my favorite seat) but they wouldn't let me take my camcorder on the ride. Its a digital camcorder but you can't hide it. I understand their reasoning for that rule tho. They don't want you taking something on that you can lose or drop off the ride. A camcorder could really hurt someone if it fell on them. I've seen some on ride clips here and I'm assuming that people used a cell phone or something small for the video.
you're the second one that has mentioned it here. Please don't take offense but I'll wait till I hear it from park officials. It seems curious that if they were going to take it out in 2011 or 2012 that they would have taken the time to replace a major portion of the track that was from the original Phantom. So it sounds kind of fishy to me. Again please take no offense that I'm not quite believing this.
I don't remember there being anyone either. It was probably because the people who got on the ride didn't care. They just cared about getting on the ride. lol
umm.... where exactly did you hear this? looked everywhere, and there is nothing saying anything of the sort ANYWHERE on the internet, so yeah, i doubt it so far. sorry
d00d that sucks. you shoulda went sunday the lines were perfect! 10 minute wait each time for phantom. the longest line was for exterminator it was an hour. thunderbolt had about 5 minute waits if even that.
@ddotg8 This was filmed in the first year of operation for the ride. At that time they were only using ONE train all day long, all season. Hence the very long line. They didn't start using the second train until the second year.
I just noticed; for such a short ride, it really packs a kick in the ass :D
yes, the line segment was filmed during the first year of operation. They only had one train operation for the entire year plus the ride was "new", hence the extremely long lines. Other portions were filmed in the next couple of years after two train operation.
i love this ride with a passion
those bunny hills are awesome XD
Thank you for the compliment. I've put up a few other videos of different rides in the park. They're nothing special. you can tell that the lift is still an arrow lift left over from the steel phantom it sounds exactly like the lift on the magnum xl 200 at cedar point
I was gonna say. Cause I wanna go to Kennywood and seeing that almost made me change my mind. Thanks for letting me know.
Rode this for the 1st time today it was awesome
I rode every rollercoster except that one.
But me and my dad will ride it when I go next year!!!
Yes I filmed the part which included the queue line during Phantoms Revenge first season. Other parts were filmed in subsequent years.
Since they made the change from Steel Phantom to Phantoms Revenge they found that the trains were running a little faster and the check brakes located just before the train comes into the station were not able to stop the train on them in case another train was still in the station. They made the decision, until other brakes could be installed, to go with just one train for safety. Don't want any accidents in the station because they coldn't stop one train from hitting another.
whats funny is that i was there today and it was sunny, no clouds, and we rode the phantom multiple times because there was literally no line.
this video sent me into a deep depression...who knew ya could actually miss kennywood THAT bad in the winter? well actually AFTER i watched it i was depressed cause it made me miss kennywood, but while i was watching it and hearing the chain, i felt just so happy its undescribable
@hymnsinger5 If I remember correctly, this line took at least an hour to get through, maybe a little more. It was taken during the first season and they were only operating one train throughout the whole season. That didn't help the line situation
The line has not been that long in years, thank goodness. That's one of the things Kennywood has over bigger theme parks-fast moving lines!
@kpdave yeah the line is just a straight run from the building over to the music express now. and it really never makes it longer than a 30 min line except on like special days
That was how the line looked the first year the that PR opened. I'm just glad that we don't have to wait in it now.
@superrockstar411 I would suppose that the line would look different now. This video was filmed during the rides first year. this is number 2 on my top ten roller coaster video.
Is there EVER a time when the lines are nonexistent?
not really.
Great video from that time. Wish the loops stayed but we all know how bad the harnesses hurt. We had the tallest and fastest coaster at one point.
they didnt get rid of it, they just changed up the track layout a bit, painted the track new colors, and renamed it "the phantoms revenge"
Actually it was a spanish company that bought Kennywood Entertainment which includes Sandcastle, Lake Compounce, Idlewild and other properties. I don't think there will be any major changes anytime soon. NO management is changing and no infrastructure changes will take place. I love kennywood!
Can't wait until September for Croation Day ^.^
there is always somewhat of a line depends on the day if it's a sunny warm day there is a long line if it is somewhat cloudy and coldish out there will be no line.
is it really? is it morgan track? do you know where i could find info on this? sorry for the 20 questions, but it's my home coaster. this sounds awesome!
BEAUTIFUL!
kennywood is my bffl. i go there many times a year and i always go on this ride and the pittfall
does this ride have amazing air time? it looks like it does.
Tom Fisher some of the best air time on a coaster
@superrockstar411 This is the Phantom from Pittsburgh. So it would be the same one you went on. As far as I know there is only one Phantom's Revenge and this is it.
well it is one of the park's most popular rides, if not the most popular.
i remember when it broke down once and they pushed it back to the station at the last mini hills
MY HUSBAND AND i LOVE KENNYWOOD IT ROCKS!
They stopped selling individual tickets a few years ago and went to a Ride All Day for everyone. I've only been to Kennywood once this year so I can't comment about the lines for a sunday, sorry

The FYI for the front car is so true! My eyes got dried out and started tearing because of the wind!!!
I recorded mmost of this in 2001 when it first opened, some scenes might be from 2002 also (don't really remember)
TOOOOOTALLY! I WANT TO LAUGH IN THE FACE OF WHOEVER DOESN'T LIVE IN PITTSBURGH AND CAN'T GO TO KENNYWOOD! I was looking up Kennywood videos because I'm so excited about our school picnic! Can't wait!
wow i love this place but i have never seen the lines so long
Is this a hyper coaster?
Also it says it does not have an engine? What powers the lift?
i rode this ride and the aero360 a bunch of times i love sitting in the front seat
nice editing. but no views from on the coaster in the front seat? i've done that before.
For sure, it was long. I can't remember just how long it took to get thru it. It was caused by them running just one train for the entire first season.
i love roller coasters. i have to sit this ride. i've yet to sit a roller coaster that gave me the sensation i felt when i bungee-ed. any recommendation?!

the first time i went on this i about screamed my head off. when i went the line wasnt as long but it was kinda long. my hair was all messed up after it lol

This one is SO much better than the Steel Phantom!! Smoother ride when compared to the other at Kennywood. I'm kind of sick of Kennywood though... been there TOO many times!!
I love kennywood it is so fun

Well that was the first year it was opened, and I wanted to get the whole ride experience including the long line you had to wait in. lol. you're the second one that has mentioned it here. Please don't take offense but I'll wait till I hear it from park officials. I actually went on it and it was only a 20 minute wait.
ummmmm i thought they just re-named it? it opened the same time as cedar points magnumn if thats how you spell it, and it got the same reviews...
that was this year and i meant bunny hills
@zzzsonic Yeah before they took it away it was called something else.
umm.... where exactly did you hear this? looked everywhere, and there is nothing saying anything of the sort ANYWHERE on the internet, so yeah, i doubt it so far. sorry
