Re-listening to this as you play through it I realize there’s another major flaw in this entire story: soo wan says she was “ attuned to water”, but as the literal elder dragon, it seems to me like she would have existed before the creation of…well…”creation”. I don’t think “water” would have existed as a concept before the existence of Tyria, or anything on the material plane of reality.
I almost wonder if Mai Trin had taken the "Enemy of my Enemy" rather than the redemption arc things may have gone better. She could have stayed a hard character that people don't trust but need in order to find and stop Annka. She could have still made the hard decision to stop the reactor explosion and be slightly redeemed but maintain her pirate character.
@WP I think the map closing pop-up happens quite a bit on Seitung and Kaineng because people are trying to go back and forth between those two maps for the Leviathan farm, so it causes the population to fluctuate a lot between the two maps.
Renyak is an odd one - he is from Flame Legion and they added refs to him in LWS1 regarding his earlier career as a slaver. I wish he wouldv'e had more character development and role because he seemd quite intriguing. I do love how gigantic he is, and it also takes me back to season 1 and their additions, where they mention that one Molten Boss fractal charr being huge as well. I wonder if there's some kind of connection there to be drawn and what makes these giant charr possible.
Also wanted Akane to be a bigger character. She has her moment to shine in the instance where you clear the new guild hall, but that's pretty much it. Hopefully they'll utilize her in the next story arc?
I always felt that joon was lying about not knowing who and what the aetherblades really were. And let’s just be honest, the writers lack the skill and talent to pull off subtle character development and dialogue. Also, we know joon’s lying because she mentioned that she had heard about what the aetherblades has been doing in Tyria.
On the subject of void variants - I think this would be a brilliant idea for a number of reasons. Currently, we have : - Acquire an Aurene weapon - Do a collection associated with an Elder Dragon (there are 5 sets - but maybe the soo-won set at somepoint?) - Use the collection reward for the above to trade in for a skin but only based on the aurene weapon types you have. -Each Elder Dragon variant set of weapons gives a title. However, you would need to have all Aurene weapons as well as repeat the collection 16 times - for a singular dragon. That's quite a meaty goal in itself, but I also imagine people would get put off. I think a Void weapon collection would just be the idea of obtaining all other variants for a specific weapon type. E.g. I earn the Aurene torch, i would need to get the Jormag torch, Primordus torch, Zhaitan torch, Mordremoth torch. This would award the void torch. sidenote: This has a nice bit of RP'ing to it too, where you're collecting all the various dragon magics together to make the void. I think this is a better approach to doing this, rather than finishing all the other elder dragon complete sets. Though you could make a complete void set collection on top of that with its own title. They could even layer on the tiered reward system we've seen with some collections, having milestones in the collection that could give you items: Additional items to start of your legendaries / variants, Titles, skins, maybe an infusion (there is a void one in game already). Breaking it down by weapon type would mean, you don't have to get other Aurene weapons. It's a more viable goal this way. I imagine people see a complete single dragon collection as something to not bother with - as it's locked behind all the Aurene set first. One Aurene weapon is an easy goal. Only needing 5-6 elder dragon skins is a much more viable goal. It might tip you into experiencing each of the collections / content. They're also not too expensive to do. It would also feel rather poetic that this is like the ultimate goal for players - and the even more insane ones, obtaining ALL void sets. Even if it's not overly engaging - I guarantee there's insane enough players out there who will go for it. It would be a really nice ending to this whole dragon era. I also imagine this would be wonderful for the economy and keep content relevant. I have seen people suggest HTCM should be tied to this, but honestly - I think that would really turn people off. Even the most average skill level player with enough time could aim for these sets.
joon is a villain, she's just a villain who is essential to canthan culture. But honestly, she's insane, insanely greedy and power hungry, with a goal of "helping the world" by essentially making the entire world dependent on her jade tech.
She's the water dragon because water is the source of all life. She, like the ocean, is mother. But probably also because they wanted to end the dragon story.
The problem isn’t the skimmer, without which the desolation and Elon would have been nearly impossible to traverse. The problem is the idiotic insistence on “fishing”, and the requirement to have boats to facilitate said fishing.
I'm on my 2011 box. I've been wanting to update my rig, but things have been so expensive. Still trying to decide between updating to 2019/20 standards and updating to something more expensive that might stay relevant longer. It's funny how much the story focuses on gods, dragons, kings, ministers, etc. and how indelicately the writers deal with powers on that level. I guess you could take it as "People are petty on every level of society and existence," but that feels a little generous to me.
Yeah they did say that guild halls would need to be regularly defended, or they would be lost to mobs and have to be recaptured. The abandoned that idea immediately when people started bitching about all the things they built and added into their guild halls.
Vindicator is so much fun in open world. One of the better power builds I think. You can deal great damage with just great sword. I like to run ret/invoke with perma boons on dodge. Less damage on dodge but super tanky
The thing I don't get about Soo-Won is that we know the dragons woke up in cycles. So what did DSD do the last time? Just stay under water while her kids went mental?
On player housing I don't think they would add it in at this point, it would split the player base too much which they don't like. I think that now is the perfect time to get a new race as its a story "reset", either the void attack the Tengu and as the Tengu are still mostly isolated it would make sense why they (and new players) would need a reminder of world events. Or the Largos as a race that have faced the horrors of the deep before and they can lead us there.
It's not a concern for me these days that they're retiring DX9 from the game, but I remember what it was like in the past when all I had available to play on were obsolete machines. Even when EOTN came out, a lot of the new armor textures didn't even render properly, because the computer I would play on just wasn't equipped to handle where the graphics were developing. So while the DX11 thing doesn't bother me now, I certainly sympathize with those players who may just be left behind.
It is interesting to ask if soo won have any siblings (because of her water element or any other reason) especialy for mist related stories. It is safe to say if there are any they are definitly not in tyria but could other realms of existence in the mists have fondation in similar (if not related directly) creatures? And since her world have masive oceans on it could her "sibling" of diferent element have very different world? (Maybe the human homeworld? Since gods basicaly evacuted them from it.) I also wonder what is diference between full on "world" and smaller realms around it (like fractal that basicaly copy events from world they are close to, or even the afterlife realms sort of like the god realms or great forge or sky above sky)
Do you think that Minister Li could still be an interesting character in a season 6 which is focused on the Purists, the dynamic between Cantha and outsiders, and jade tech possibly failing?
the streams are great but i miss the youtube longplay format, those videos are atemporally good even all these years later but i understand the ammount of work to make those is a lot
I mean, I'd be willing to bet my first Aurene Legendary on the fact that Li isn't the White Falcon and the studio did in fact write a nuanced dynamic with the Purists that they just haven't finished yet. Min pushed back on us incredibly hard on the idea he was some kind of Purist mastermind cartoon villain. Part of the cheesiness of the Commander's view of him is to set up the switch up, I think. I wrote a whole paper on the idea that I could share with you that lays out the nuance of his fearful nature and how in some ways his prejudice toward us and Joon was justified.
Is it me or is the "getting out of waters" process waaaaay smoother than what was the case when you first played the expansion in March ? I just watched some episodes from back then and and when you get out of the waters if was terrible frames. Now it just seems fine ? New hardware or is it just a fix ?
We already have home instances. Player housing would be as pointless and wasteful of resources and man hours as fishing was. I would much rather have a new playable race, and possibly even a new playable class for that new playable race. I want a new weapon Type, like land based spear/pole arm weapon.
When talking about guild systems and how they could be improved why instantly dismiss defend the guild hall battle? That would be really cool guild mission but probably in separaded instence like the puzzles or chalenges are, it would use all the guild hall space that dont ever get use or even seen if people are not decorating and maybe even not then since when anyone explored all the little rooms caves and random rocks in lost precipce? It is sad that guild systems are not upgraded since HoT. The new guild halls dont have their color variation of t2 weapons not even let you craft one of the old once. AND you cant build some upgrades when not having HoT since they need HoT exlusive materials there should be variants for PoF and EoD.
I couldn't help but thinking: How small is this "we want challenging 10 men group content" minority, if even WP isn't quite into it?" I pugged a few of the easy IBS strikes and Steel Warband while I played through IBS recently and I noticed that "strike training" was always empty in LFG. But there are those min/maxer-groups which appear to expect perfection from every group member (out of the box). So it appears to me that not only this "hardcore" community is very small, it is also very detached form the majority of players.
Listening to you play through this has reminded me how different the dialogue in this expac felt, and how much I don't like it. So many of the characters have this weird, high-school teen novel 'edgy' and sassy attitude. Also so much real world modern lingo that feels really out of place. Taimi especially came across as so cheesy to me.
Why so many references to noodles? This really bothered me for some reason. It’s not cultural appropriation but after the fifth audio dialogue with some joke about noodles, it feels cheap. It’s like, this xpac is Asian themed, what’s asian? Noodles! Jokes about noodles
No big Feelings for the people havibg 2005 rigs or Laptops. The costs for something that can handle dx11 gw2 nowdays is so low. No excuses. Just dumb excuses
“She’s tapping into the power of the mists - just like you!”
That’s awesome unique dialogue for a rev, it really makes it feel like a revenant duel.

I just want to say that I don't usually get to catch these live but I always enjoy watching these later. Thank you :)

I disconnect from GW2 at the end of Icebrood Saga. I played EoD but it just felt rushed, handwavey, and unsatisfying.

The more I watch these voiced replays of Joons connection to the Aetherblades, the more I wish Joon was a villain rather than Minister Li.
joon is a villain, she's just a villain who is essential to canthan culture. But honestly, she's insane, insanely greedy and power hungry, with a goal of "helping the world" by essentially making the entire world dependent on her jade tech.
@34:40 I like how the game answers your question when you were going through the quest dialogues :D
She's the water dragon because water is the source of all life. She, like the ocean, is mother.

9 months later, this meta is still very popular, North America. (Reference to WP asking if the meta is still run, at the time the video was released)
I don't know how it is in Great Britain, but in the USA, the Department of Motor Vehicles is just like the Ministry of Transportation in Seitung. LOL

Rama should have been the Purist hidden in MinSec. That would have been a nuanced and more emotional story.
Maybe he still is
I liked Joon until she turned into good perfect woman who was frustrated because no one acknowledged her .. *sigh*
shes clearly a female elon musk.
