      @ANKUR Ironically, weird comments like this are probably part of the reason less women are in the community

    • @AA-zq1sx
      @AA-zq1sx 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How is it a "weird comment"?
      Women don't need exposure to chess, there isn't anything odd about the fact that most people don't want to spend 14 hours a day studying chess positions. The real mystery is why any men wish to spend their time devoted to this ultimately pointless activity, not why women don't care. Probably ego and status and "world champion" title are more motivating to male brains.

    I've always admired Jennifer Yu's style. I know that chess as a career is not the most lucrative thing, but - however it felt in the moment - one does not simply stumble into two championships. She's a serious talent, and it would be a loss to the artistry of chess if she stopped playing.

    Jennifer Yu's been one of my favorites since her insane run back in 2019, I remember Jeffery Xiong also having a breakout year because I kept saying "Go JX/Y!" in chat to cover them both. Love her attitude and her tenacity, if she's this strong while playing nonsense, imagine what she could do with top tier prep!

      The American education system is among the worst in the world though. A degree there is the equivalent of getting a toy from Happy Meal compared to other developed countries. Everyone is hyped at the mention of Harvard or Stanford, but then you realize they lag in science and math, teach less about history than some high schools elsewhere, etc. Much like they crown world champions even though the competitions are purely among US citizens, but that's America for you, an illusion of greatness. Definitely you should bring more girls into chess. It is an absolute nightmare here in Germany and those who do go to the chess clubs are often in a weird position. If only for one reason, do it to prove all those sexists wrong who think that there are hard biological reasons that women are on average several hundred rating points lower rated than men and (unwittingly) try to make women give up before they even start.

    • @thesarasohrabi
      @thesarasohrabi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "try to make women give up before they start"....
      It's not like that ... This argument comes because women always try to tell the world that they are as good if not better than men in every aspect....
      If they shut up and do their business nobody will unnecessarily discourage you....

    • @karelpitra3634
      @karelpitra3634 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i very much doubt it's an "absolute nightmare" in germany given how developed it is. here in czechia (your eastern neighbours) if anything it's the opposite - girls are encouraged to play. in the small club, i played for, alone we had two girls competing in multiple european and world youth championships. the reason women don't reach the highest level are indeed mostly biological. just two important reasons of the top of my head: 1) the distribution of many characteristics (including those related to chess potential) in men are more extreme in men than in women. this does not mean men are better at chess overall than women, but it does mean that there will be many many more male outliers (and all top players are outliers). the fabulous susan polgar was an extreme outlier in female chess and still she had to compete against a much larger group of outlier men. the top level is still unattainable for 99.9% of men so for the average (or even highly above average) men there's almost no difference compared to women. 2) boys/men have a much stronger tendency to be single minded - find something that interests them and go deep in, devote all their time to their interest and disregard anything else. girls/women tend to be much more well rounded in their approach to life. but then again, the vast majority of men "lack" this single mindedness too, so for all but a small portion of chess players there is almost no difference between boys/girls and for 99% of male chess players there will always be many female chess players much stronger than them.
