This is how a final boss fight should be. Testing everything you've learned throughout the entire game and pushing you to your limits. i spent alot of time and "one more try" moments on this fight especially on the higher difficulty. i feel like this key element is gone is alot of games.....well all the ones i like playing
Combining that with the atmosphere and feeling of fulfilment of your journey... that is when your final boss is a great one. A recent example would be Nioh 2's Otakemaru.

Best part in the bossfight tbh. Says myself while running and air tricking and dodging away from Helm breakers. Then comes the other best part. His original Judgement Cut End, while I run circles in utter panic and fear of getting TRASHED.
I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet... But if you're going to compare the two Vergils on anything in this soundtrack video, it should be their battle themes. In that regard, I cannot even give one iota of support for DmC's final boss theme. This piece is actually one of the most musically beautiful and poignant pieces I've ever heard in a video game.
Agreed, this has got to be one of the best final boss themes I have ever heard aside from Dancing Mad. Very emotional, pumping, and masterfully crafted. This is art.
***** I'm not comparing the two games, just the two characters. I had about zero problems with Vergil in DmC, on any difficulty. DMC3 Vergil and Nero Angelo on the other hand kicked my ass a lot. This song in particular is WAYYY better then anything in DmC as well. That's all I'm sayin'.
DmC's great. If Capcom lets Ninja Theory make another game in the same universe, I just hope the boss fights are revised. Otherwise, I understand where you are coming from.
***** Characters in DmC were VERY dissapointing compared to ones we used to know and love before,Dante isn't that bad, just mediocre compared to DMC3 and 4 Dante, but Vergil is just terrible compared to original one, when in original series he was seeking power, driven by sorrow after his mother's death, which he blaimed on him not being strong enough to protect her,new Vergil is just an asshole who thinks that humans are nothing and wants to control them just for that.He also has no honour, what we can see when he shoots Lilith, killing her demon baby, then waits to let her see what happened to make her suffer, and then kills her.And she was a damn hostage...He acted like damn coward, true Vergil would NEVER act so lowly...
Did you try fighting Vergil 3 on max difficulty? TROLOLOLOLOl! "Blades flying everywhere. Ridiculous ass amount of DT Tranformations. Retarded amount of ice sword dodging!" Still refuses to unseal Force Edge into Sparta and fight Dante like a real man!
It's remarkable how incredibly good DMC3 and its soundtrack are to this day. It holds up shockingly well and seems to only get better every time I play it.
I agree only with the former. Devil May Cry 3 was a masterpiece, and the bets devil may cry game to exist in the series. It had good graphics, great gameplay, fantastic voice and acting, and the ability to control Vergil in the whole game. On the other hand, Devil May Cry 4 was a massived disappointment to the entire series. It is no where near as great as 3 was, but least its a whole lot better than 2.

Thats why they made the commemorative DMC4 Special Edition Featuring every character from DMC 1, 3 and 4. Hell Vergil's back! Even Lady makes her first playable appearance so don't worry about our favourite Dante not making a return ladies and gentlemen!
I love bury the light very much, but i do miss the melacholy feeling of this song. Its as if youre gazing in the sky after you receive ultimate power. What now? You ask yourself as you stare at the vast sky.
Thats the thing. Bury the light feels like "im feeling sad im aiming for power" This and vergil theme 2 feels like "i have found power, i dont need emotions no more"
The leitmotif in DMC3 was much stronger than DMCV's IMO. I really wish they had remixed this theme for the Mission 19 fight between Dante and Vergil rather than the generic duel theme they ended up using.
I always thought some of the parts in this song sounded tragic to me, then it just whiplashes right back into being a struggle for your life and hoping you don't miss a single input.
Its the difference between a boss theme that you only hear and one that you had to fight an impactiful boss to remember. Two examples of this effect is Sturm from advance wars, players still hearing the sounds of him obliterate your army in explosions alongside his theme, another one is cynthia from pokemon diamond/pearl/platinum, you cannot unhear her theme without the low hp sound effect of your pokemon dying.
Devil may cry 3 will always have a special place in every DMC fan no matter how games will be released in future, the music the fight style the design the story the characters
I remember back then when I got to this fight for the first time, it was the most epic thing in the world. Now, many years later, I came back to play it again and I can't even describe how epic it was. Fighting at the same level as Vergil in this epic set-up, blocking and dodging each other's hits, using DT at the same time and having it last the same time for both of us, it was the most epic thing ever, next to Metal Gear. ...Maybe... a bit more even...
I still remember being a teenager and playing this game like it was yesterday. Hearing this was building up such a climax that I new it was final boss material.
Dante & Vergil were very similar in their own motives at first. Let me explain. Dante was looking for the demon that killed his mother, and he made the whole thing out to be this huge fun game. He didn't care about what happened to anyone as long as he got his revenge. Vergil believed that "without power, you can't protect anything. Let alone yourself" because he was unable to protect his mom. Their motives are selfish, but you can sympathize with that. However, Dante matured and learned that getting your wants at the expense of other people was horrible. Vergil, however didn't care what happened to others, he wants power to compensate for the loss of his mom. Take that character development, put the fact that their blood brothers in it that got lost due to the parents death and lace it with crack cocaine, and inject it with family dysfunction, then add an astronomically emotionally moving piece of music like this into the mix. And what better way to induce emotion than to add a tragically realistic way parent deaths have on children to have them base their actions off of their parents' death. I speak for both the old DMC and the new DmC too.
Like.. Vergil really is my oldest "Oh my god he is such a strong guy.. everything about him is so cool!" villian.I really hated how they ruined everything he stood for in new DmC...
Sarper Doğan Actually, I feel they did a good job on his character in DmC. He authority and control over people to compensate for his lack of control in his early life. Meanwhile, with his superiority complex, he wants to 'help' humanity because he sees them as "children who need protection". He later started blaming Kat, Dante, and his mom for his own weak heart and just wanted power in the end. It was pretty good.
Titanicgamerdude I get you on that,i would still argue it is way less mature to think in that way compared to normal Vergil but that wouldn't be too much of a problem for me if that was what defined Vergil in DmC.What pointed out what kind of villian or character he was just one scene, the scene he shot Mundus's unborn child, waited a second for the woman to realise and scream and offing the woman with the rifle.Till here it is fucked up but the thing is... he smiled the camera shows him making a smirk. That kind of character is miles away from what Vergil was.He isn't a sadistic guy with a wish or lust for revenge. He was always a guy on a mission, wanting to protect his loved ones and doing what is necesarry to acquire a power that is needed for that.My theory is(I think it is pretty likely..) that the reason Vergil went "Bad" in 3 was becouse he had a son(Nero) and a lover he wanted to protect.Unlike how he failed to do with his mother he was ready to do anything to prevent the same thing from happening again to his family.
Sarper Doğan Well, the flaw with that theory is that Vergil showed *no* remorse or qualms for fighting his brother. Both incarnations are obsessed with gaining power to compensate for their insecurities for not being able to protect their mom. The old incarnation felt more like an anti-villain, while the new one felt more anti-heroish. The older one felt less evil while still showing his selfish nature, while the new one was selfish, but was far more inclined to do atrocious acts to get his way (or control). In the end, their motives are nonetheless the same: Obtain more power. The old one seems more honorable, honest, and straighforward with obtaining his tho (wanted to get it on his own). The new one showed a willingness to manipulate other people and dispose of them like puppets when no longer useful (killed Mundus' kid for no legit reason and killed Lilith) while being completely blind to Kats awesome efforts due to the superiority complex. Seeing him fall even further into insanity and still wanting more power *even* after he became the new demon king (Vergil's Downfall) was totally cool.
BLAST HRAAGHH BLAST BLAST HOUGHH BLAST HYYAA I'll see you in a minute. This may be fun. You will not forget this devil's power. You are not worthy as my opponent.
Lady: Are you crying? Dante: It's only the rain. Lady: But the rain already stopped. Dante: Devils never cry. Lady: I see. Maybe somewhere out there even a devil may cry when he loses a loved one. Don't you think?
Easily one of my favorite moments in all of gaming. The build up to the fight was awesome, the connection between the two brothers was really well done, and the fight itself… holy shit. The best final boss in any game I’ve played so far, I was so worried he was going to be easy like his first two fight, but no, it was incredibly difficult and engaging. The only problem I had here was with he camera sometimes being janky, otherwise almost flawless

Testing everything you've learned throughout the entire game and pushing you to your limits. i spent alot of time and "one more try" moments on this fight especially on the higher difficulty. i feel like this key element is gone is alot of games.....well all the ones i like playing
Gangers Really, this fights tests how good you are with Rebellion and Beowulf.
Combining that with the atmosphere and feeling of fulfilment of your journey... that is when your final boss is a great one.
A recent example would be Nioh 2's Otakemaru.
The real test is Vergil vs Vergil 3
As a GAME i think Dmc5 is better but as a Devil May Cry experience i think Dmc3 is better. I prefer Dmc5 though there's just a lot more to do there

So true. This song kept me coming back for more, even when I was being beaten like a rag doll. Can't say the same for DmC in either aspect.

I can still hear mentally hear the flurry of "Scuuuum!" "Diiie!" "Flash!" etc when listening to this, also "You're going down.... haaaaaaaaaaagh!"

Yh
I still remember being a teenager and playing this game like it was yesterday. Hearing this was building up such a climax that I new it was final boss material.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard in a video game. Well done to Tetsuya Shibata and Kento Hasegawa !! :D
***** Pretty fucked up :(

Nero: "Give me more power"
