I think my favorite thing about Circle Takes the Square are the vocals. Their lyrics are amazing, and their instrumentals awesomely progressive, but I just love it to death when a band has more than one vocalist. Still my favorite thing about their vocals is not so much the fact that they have more than one vocalist, though that's a big part of it, but it's the raw passion. And that passion is so consistent throughout all their material.
Circle Takes the Square has been described as being a "blend of progressive experimentation and DIY hardcore, metal, and noise...characterised by a natural fusion of grindcore and the sweeping guitar dynamics of post-punk".
I remember hearing some bands, can't remember which ones, some Emotive Hardcore bands, saying how they thought it was stupid that they were being classified as that. They just considered themselves hardcore because well, that's what Emotive Hardcore branched out of. That's often how genres get created. And it's kind of like language or anything else for that matter. Usage defines meaning. In the case of CTTS, as far as I know, they became known as Screamo if they didn't start that way.
But obviously music is so much more than that. Labels just help us identify things, they don't completely define those things. It's easy to see how if things turned out a little bit differently different elements would characterize genres. I personally enjoy researching genres and how they have developed, and I pretty much do try to classify everything. Knowing what genre something actually is can be very helpful. It's when people base their understanding on whims that you get stupidity.
Regardless of genre (emo, screamo, whatever... heck, I can hear a hip hop influence in their music so you might wanna throw this one into your pedantic, pathetic little excuse for a discussion as well), this is simply great music. End of.
THe more important word in that genre is not screamo hardcore or punk or what ever you want...The more important word to describe CTTS is Progressive. When they play, it not like a normal song that have verses and all that stuff, whan they play, its like a big poem or story. There's nothing that look the same. Its progressive.
Like calling Hawthorn Heights Screamo, or Emo, or Metal, or whatever else you might have heard someone on TV, the Radio, or your dumb friends at school call it. I like asking people what kind of music they like and then asking them what bands they like just to see if they match up. It's hilarious how often they don't. People have no idea what Screamo, Emo, or Metal are anymore. And people never seemed to know what Post-Hardcore was. People are so ignorant.

I usually hate this screamo type of music. But there is so much musicality in this band. I love the ambience and the creativity. So unique.

Real emo essentially is screamo. So emo/screamo or whatever, fits the bill for CTTS. Regardless of what genre they are, they still are amazing.
