Painting the Track Changed Everything

This video is an attempt to understand what happened when I painted the track. Cars that should be terrible are now fast. A car broke a hub and the rest are not they way they used to be.

Matte latex is grippier than plastic track.

I have a painted track as well, pretty much the same color as yours, and can attest to interesting results. I had a Carrera Meltdown Summer and had to buy new tires for my cars, so I went with urethanes as I usually try to race with factory rubber [on the other brands' cars]. I have Ortmann urethanes on most and PG tires on two of the cars, and had to sand the edges a bit to avoid the 'chatter' around the curves. I found the exterior latex house paint that I used to really help the factory rubbers and improved grip.

I've found the Carrera 1/24 Cheetahs have much more magnetic downforce than any other Carrera I have.

If it were a real car, check the date code of the tires, contact manufacturer for anomalies. Tires made before production. Cars purchased at same time? Date code may have nothing to do with when purchased. Cars made same place? Agree with other commenters, suspect magnets could cause anomalies too. Really interesting repot. Stellar track👍👍😎🇺🇸

Would you consider sharing your track plan? I have seen a few of your videos and would like to try the overpass/banked combo but I am having a hard time planning it into my layout.

I will post a Ultimate Racer pic if I can find it. But it is not perfect. Laying the banked curve on the side results in a unique angle. So you have to run them is pairs. You can not get back to normal with a standard curve. If you look at the dip- the in and out are opposed and then the underpass has 2 opposed curves as well. Some cars clunk as they crest the hill because of low rear magnets. And a few are light enough to launch in to the air upon leaving the dip. Last night a 1/24 Trans Am Challenger went airborne and straight in to the tower below the VIP lounge.

Have you tried silicone tires yet? I prefer silicone due to how long they last and how good they work. 👍

No. Only urethane and the 2 types of Carrera tires. The standard and the yellow striped "tuning" tires.

@@Dracoool I make my own urethanes, have for many years now. Used to use silicones but they pick up dust and need cleaning. You don’t need to clean urethanes and they last forever too.

@@johncahill3644 ...on a clean track silicone work better and last longer...urethane wear out and get smaller too quickly..but to each his own.

@@r2creatives It is a Carrera track. We run a lot of 1/24 digital and making the custom borders instead of using the regular ones let me add 10' of track lane length while making the table smaller. I painted it with leftover wall paint. Flat latex. The grey is from Sherwin Williams. If you look at the previous videos on the track it shows a lot of the table/wiring and other steps.
