      Colorado's resurgence from a historically abysmal season into playoff upsets had a lot to do with their penalty kill and third/forth line presence from neglected names like Carl Soderberg, Blake Comeau, Colin Wilson, etc. Its what separated them from "sometimes flashy, but woefully unequipped" (a title that would fit the Canucks and Coyotes of the time) to a team that can contend with the best teams in the league, if they can manage an 8th or 7th seed in the standings. Don't even get me started on the prime LA kings roster. Jesus Murphy.

    What isn't accounted for here is clutch factor and ability to perform under pressure. It would be interesting to take a look at what Marner's point distribution looks like throughout a series. He tends to get all his points early in a series, in games that are already decided and disappears later in the series when the pressure is on. Compare this to Pasta who always seems to score a clutch goal.

    • @Deehvad
      @Deehvad 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Good point. Marner's only goal in the latest Boston series came in the third period when they were down 3-0 and it didn't matter at all. This guy has ZERO impact on his team, and can't play defense either (he let Pasta blow right by him when he was fresh off the bench for that OT winner).
      They need to trade this guy ASAP. A traffic cone would get as many points in the playoffs.

    I'd say it makes it even more impressive that the Canucks in game 1 against the Oilers this very week managed to almost entirely shut down McDavid, not allowing him to take a single shot. That's what also gave them the opportunity for depth scoring to count and get them that game 1 win. (He still got an assist though, cause he always finds a way ahah)

    I would live to see more history about "Why are playoffs different?" Like, has this aleays been the case? Has it changed over time? Like, Gretzky and Lemieux numbers would suggest the regular season used to be a lot softer or the playoffs have now become a lot harder? We there teams like the Leafs in the past, who dominated regular season, but couldnt level up in the post-season? That qould be a very interesting video.

    Dallas has almost immaculate depth in their lineup. they arent the flashiest players ever, but they can score up and down the line. Faksa, Smith, Steel, Dadonov, Dellandrea who have all contributed during the regular season and postseason for that Bottom 6 scoring. some of our top guys aren't scoring a lot right now in the playoffs, but our bottom 6 has been picking up that slack yo help compensate. plus our defenders aren't afraid to get in on the scoring. Ryan Suter has a goal in the Avs series, Heiskanen was on hat trick watch in Game 2. Dallas has so much depth up and down their lines that when some guys aren't doing it, the others are right there to pull their weight

    Canucks fans are hilarious, they lose "rigged! Refs!" They win "solid game, earned 100%"

      Nothing wrong with facts. Refs were brutal in Game 2 so many missed calls. I wanna see em play too but there were some serious non-calls in that game, both ways, but the three non-calls against Hughes were an absolute joke. Any 3 of those plays could have ended his season. Refs need to do better, period.

    Oilers have good depth scoring. We can put kane down on the 3rd, foegle who had and outstanding 7ear. Janmark was mid but his physical presence puts us up. If Carrick comes back same thing. Henr8que has put himself on a second line to 1st line from the deadline. Brett kulak and desharnais have been solid defensively making good plays weather if it's blocking 2 or 3 shots on a shift, sprawling out their masses bodies to stop passes. Ceci broke his goaless record. We have depth and they work in the past season aswell. When mcdavid was out against the golden knights, we won that game 5-1. Do not doubt these oilers in the slightest bud

    Bobrovsky is one of those players who'll die to make sure his team moves on. As a leafs fan, it a rare sight to see a player with that much dedication. Some players have it , some dont. We've had plaenty who bring that much intenstity to the game, but you need more thatn 1 player to win a cup. Bobrovsky can bring a whole fanbase to their feet with one play. Very few plater in the league who can pul that off. I love the Leafs, and theyv'e sure had players capabel of accomplishing the same, they've just never managed to pull it off.

    Why I’m so relieved ovie won the stanley cup and the conn smythe with only Holtby up for debatt. Kuzy was good, but not every gane like ovie, so him about to pass Gretzky means so much. Ovechkin was at his best and won in the playoffs unlike so many others. Thornton, Iginla, Dionne, Marleau, and sooooo many others who did nothing in the playoffs. Ovechkin proved he could do it at the highest level, so his hunt for 895 is a treat.

    Pasta is a such a frustrating player in the playoffs. He we be invisible for a game or 2 and then randomly show up huge in a game like last year game 7 against FLA were he nearly won the game if not for the last min goal

    The Jets aside from Helly crapping the bed got away from the play that nailed them 4th overall during the regular season. They were nothing in the playoffs compared to the system they used during the season.

    palat, lehkonen and barbashev are all top 6 forwards and in 2022 the oilers had kane, step up who is an equivalent piece to the oilers as the aforementioned players were to their team.

    • @RobTalksHockey
      @RobTalksHockey  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      True, Kane did step up in 2022, and guess what, they made the conference finals. I am more-so talking about a player who elevates their game from a depth scoring role. Lehkonen and Barbashev were brought in as depth scorers

    I have so many questions lol. If 1-2-2 is more successful defensively and limits breakouts, why don’t teams play that way in regular season? Why can’t teams play with similar intensity as playoffs in the regular season? Is that simply not sustainable? Another thing I don’t understand, if you can elevate your game in the playoffs like Palat for instance, why can’t he do that during regular season? Basically to sum it up, why can’t you have that playoff mentality all season long?

    • @RobTalksHockey
      @RobTalksHockey  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's wayyyy more boring over 82 games. The Islanders of the last decade, and Flyers this season played 1-2-2. You'll see low scoring games which aren't as exciting with nothing on the line. My guess is 2-1-2, helps develop offense, and sells more tickets. In the final stretch of the season, team's switch to the 1-2-2 to start prepping for playoffs
