    Welcome! Fresh off our visit to NAMM - the world’s premier music trade show - we’ve decided to share our top selections for the best 88-key, weighted action digital pianos available for under $1,000 in 2023.
    Each instrument on our list has at least one standout feature that puts them ahead of the pack. Stick around to the end of the video for some side-by-side playing examples.
    Overview
    All prices discussed in the video are listed in USD. We happen to be located in Canada and our prices are listed in CAD on our website, but USD is a more useful reference point for viewers all over the world so that’s why we’ve made that decision.
    Kawai ES120 - $899 - Best Piano Tone
    Kawai is one of the giants of the piano industry, and we happen to cover their products extensively on our channel.
    The ES120 has in our opinion the best piano tone available in a digital piano for under $1,000 with uncompressed, individual note stereo sampling courtesy of their Harmonic Imaging engine. Play through a set of good headphones for an even better experience.
    The ES120 also boasts a sleek, modern design, and upgraded action, as well as Bluetooth MIDI and Audio.
    Yamaha DGX-670 - $849 - Deepest Feature Set
    The Yamaha DGX-670 has by far the deepest levels of functionality in a piano available for under $1,000. The arranger and sequencer functions do require some previous knowledge or familiarity with music theory to operate, so it’s unlikely that brand-new players will unlock the full potential of the 670.
    However, its 100s of tones and easy-to-use Piano Room feature will be great fun even for beginners, and hobbyists will be hard-pressed to find a piano with more depth outside of spending thousands more.
    It is a little heavier at 50 lbs, so this one is more meant for home use.
    Roland FP-30X - $799 - Best Gigging Piano
    For under $1,000, there is no better all-around gigging piano than the Roland FP-30X. It’s well priced, lean in size and weight, and packed with pro levels features.
    It’s equipped with the PHA4 action which boasts triple sensor key detection and escapement, and to us, is the best action in the class.
    The 30X is also equipped with ¼” line outputs, a USB audio interface, and both Bluetooth MIDI and Audio. Add in a high-quality sound engine with 256 notes of polyphony and a 22-watt speaker system and you’re left with a very convincing total package.
    Roland FPE50 - $999 - Overall Best Value
    Roland’s FPE50 delivers such a powerful array of specs that it was ultimately our pick for best overall value for under $1,000.
    While its arranger functionality is not as extensive as the DGX670, it offers the largest stable of onboard sounds with around 1,000, 100 accompaniment styles for playing along with, a chord sequencer, deep off-board editing of all tones via the ZEN-Core synth architecture, and a simple player-friendly interface. Plus, it also boasts the PHA4 action, which again, is the top in the class for our money.
    Finally, on paper it shares the same 22 watts of rated power output as the 30X, however in practice, these speakers greatly outperform the 30X, and give us the best speaker system of any model on our list.
    Casio PX-S3100 - $879 - Best Look & Portability
    When it comes to looks and ease of portability, the Casio PX-S3100 takes the cake with its super aesthetic design, extremely light weight of 25 lbs and the option to run it on batteries.
    It also boasts arranger functionality, hundreds of onboard sounds and a good speaker system. A dependable action rounds out this great instrument.
    Kawai KDP75 - $999 - Best Console
    The final piano on our list is the Kawai KDP75, which gets the nod for being the top console piano available for under $1,000.
    It’s largely an ES120 in console form for those who don’t need portability and would prefer an instrument with an attractive cabinet that also comes standard with a three-pedal system.
    It brings the same excellent piano tone as the ES120, and the second-best speaker performance next only to the Roland FPE50. It’s light on features and sounds, but this one is really focused as an acoustic piano substitute.
    Thanks for watching and be sure to check the links below for more information on all of the pianos from this list.

    I became a Roland fan. And the inspiration came partly from this channel - and from spending DAYS (!) in a store that offers almost the entire range of each manufacturer. I myself have a classical music education for violin and piano. For me, Roland achieves the best overall package, where authentic touch/play and quality of sound are my personal priorities.
    What I really appreciate about this channel is the great impartiality in the assessment. Because every manufacturer, every category and every single device have certain pros and cons - and every user has individual preferences and priorities. (Fortunately, I don't regret the purchase, as I was really made aware of many aspects beforehand that I wouldn't have been aware of otherwise. Kudos to this channel ;-)
    In my opinion, Merriam is the best source of information when it comes to digital pianos and keyboards. So: I am still returning from time to time - and always enjoy it.

    As a piano player for over 35 years, my ear gravitated towards the Kawai sound, as well as the Roland FP-E50. They had the harmonics I was expecting to hear. You could hear the dynamics control from the action. Tough to choose between the two. Perhaps the need for portability will decide this one for me. Great review and thank you.

    Thanks, Stu, for another great review. The new models introduced at Namm also paved way to huge discounts on the outgoing models. Last week I went to the store to buy either an FP30x or a ES120, I couldn't resist and ended up buying a Kawai CA49 for 1800USD. Compared to CA59 (or the new CA501) there are many features lacking, but even so, it has a beautiful sound and action for the price.

      Hi! Brent from Merriam Music here! Thanks for tuning in and sharing your insights! The release of a new model is definitely exciting for multiple reasons, including the fact that some special clearance pricing will be offered on the predecessor model. The CA49 and CA59 are both exceptional console digital pianos, but, as you've pointed out, they are quite different in regard to their offering. The CA49 is more streamlined and focused on the core piano experience, whereas the CA59 is a fully-loaded option. :)

    You nailed the Best under $1K for sure! As much as I love the sound of Yamaha, Kawaii, and Casio, it's the Roland FP-E50 that has me excited. Feature rich, along with the PHA-4 Keybed such a terrific value. The textured keys really feel wonderful. I will be ordering one within the next two weeks. proud owner of the DGX 670! i have of course tried playing other similarly priced pianos in the shops before purchasing, but after much careful research and deliberation, the DGX was the clear winner of them all, feature-wise (the lovely full color screen is a nice bonus). If you get bored of playing solely classical piano, you can always try tinkering with the advanced arranger features (also with 256 note polyphony) and tons of other sounds and effects.

      Any thoughts on the Roland's FP-E50's Zengine regarding sounds and their "sound cloud"? Hear that you can download a bunch of other types of tones above and beyond the thousand it's got? Haven't played with the thing yet. Have tried the DgX 670 though. It did not feel like a toy and the piano was top notch. Am concerned regarding the difference in the ability to just record and play something via the sequencer of the Roland... Not sure what they mean by "chord sequencer" for the Roland.

    @Merriam Music thanks for the reply. To me at least if the ES120 really was played first, and the KDP75 last I heard the KDP75 was less compressed in the bass, and the overall sound was slitely more meloer, and more full threw lineouts🎹🎶

    I just bought the FP-30X but might return it. Absolutely love the sound when you lay down some lush chords, I prefer that core sound over the ES120 and P125 and that's why I chose it, but single notes in the middle register can easily become pokey/empty/fake in a way the other two I mentioned don't. The maximum volume on my (quite good) headphones is also a bit low for me, but I can imagine that doesn't differ much from the other pianos? The price of the ES120 and P125A are the same price at the moment over here, so trading the Roland in for the Kawai is the better deal, but I feel like the fullness in that middle register is a bit clearer on the Yamaha, whereas the Kawai feels like it's masking some of that sharpness, resulting in a more muddy sound. The plastic keys on the Yamaha though... and I've heard you mention a sluggish action? And the prices were so much further apart a while ago... choices, choices.

    • @MerriamPianos

      It is tough to find a piano that satisfies every want/need. With that said, the FP30X and ES120 in particular are both amazing instruments at this price point. Inevitably, all of the instruments you listed will have their strengths. It is a tough choice, but I'm sure you'll make one that you're happy about it at the end of the day! :)

    Thanks for the overview.
    I recently got an ES120W. At the first glance the keys feel great to play, I especially like the texture, but also the nice and not too heavily weighted key action. Unfortunately one key was getting "sticky" already after a few days of playing already. With "sticky" I mean that it doesn't come back up as easily as it should after pressing it. I returned the piano and will soon get a replacement unit, hopefully this time without any issues.
    Another thing I noticed: The sound is really amazing, especially when using with decent studio monitor speakers. However there seem to be a few notes where the samples sound slightly unexpected, i.e. C6 and E6. Only with the SK-EX sample-set though. Usually not very easy to notice, but when playing these notes alone it's a bit strange.
    Not the biggest issue for me, the reason for sending it back was for the sticky key. I really hope the keys of the replacement unit will stay smooth and nice to play for a good while.

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're very welcome! Thanks for tuning in and writing in! I'm sorry to hear that you had a sticky key issue with your ES120. It happens every now and then with virtually any model, but, in any case, I'm happy to hear you're getting a replacement. The ES120 has a great touch and tone. It presents exceptional value and a very enjoyable musical experience. :)

      @@MerriamPianos Indeed, despite of that key I enjoyed playing it a lot and was a bit sad when sending it away. Great playing experience, especially when coupled with good speakers the amazing detail and power of the sounds shows. Also the general feeling of the keys is quite nice. I'm looking forward to the replacement unit and really hope to keep it then.

    • @Zoco101
      @Zoco101 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Wilifred... The ES120 looks very promising. Some viewers have noted that the casing is not very solid. Under the circumstances, you need to be extra careful never to press or squeeze the front panel against the keys - this can warp them. So, it's better not to carry your piano under one arm or lift it in a bear hug. I don't imagine that you caused the sticking key, but you wouldn't want to cause the next one
      I also keep the keys covered with a cloth and I never erase music notes over the keyboard. All those bits of eraser falling onto the contacts? Yikes!

    • @wwelti
      @wwelti ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zoco101 Thanks. I was very careful with the piano and also used a soft protection cover to protect it from dust entering the keyboard over time.
      About the stickyness of the key, we know the theory of how this Kawai action works and we even know the weak spot of it, which is the connection between the key and the "hammer". The teflon pads there are prone to wear and so this sometimes happens after years of playing. Probably one of these pads was displaced a little bit. I didn't want to open the piano and void the warranty of course.

    Very informative review (as always :))! Thank you for bringing that kind of thoughts together. Does a new / refreshed Yamaha P-225 changes anything in that comparison? Especially when comparing it to Kawai ES120? Both from piano (!) sound quality and the key action? Sound wise (and more precisely piano sound wise...) Kawai's model made the biggest impression on me so far. But I do not have the reference point nor the comparison with the P-225 as unfortunately not many reviews are available so far presenting that particular piano and elaborating the sound / playing differences vs its predecessor.

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Brent here! I have not experienced the P225 in person yet, so I can't really comment on that model in too much detail. With that said, the ES120 is a really difficult piano to compete with in terms of piano sound. It is by far the most authentic piano sound I have heard from a digital piano at this price point. We will do our best to tackle an updated comparison of the P225 versus the ES120. :)

  • @MartianTom

    Great vid. This is around my budget for a new digital piano. My issue up until now has always been keyboard noise. My last piano, a Yamaha P85, was bad enough. I've now got a Casio CDP 350, which is great in so many ways (especially the number of voices) - but the keyboard is so noisy that I have to play it with headphones on all the time. If I want to video my playing, I have to use the on-board recorder, then dub it over the video - otherwise, the 'thump-thump-thump' of the keys is too noticeable. I realise this is always going to be a problem with digital pianos, trying to emulate the 'weighted' keys of an acoustic. Which of these models has the quietest keyboard, would you say? Or are they all about the same?

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! We appreciate that! :)
      To some extent, there will always be some mechanical key noise with a weighted key digital. With that said, the Casio PXS models, such as the PXS1100, would probably be your best bet. They have a lighter touch, but the keys are quite quiet. It is definitely worth exploration.

    • @Zoco101
      @Zoco101 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a Pf85, then a P80 and now I (still) have a P-255. Thanks to its GH action, it is the quietest of the three in terms of key noise - not that I'm very sensitive to key noise. Acoustic piano keys do make some noise too. One thing to remember is that acoustic pianos are loud, and people either accept that or they get a digital piano/silent piano. Logically, with a home/portable digital piano played at say half or two thirds the volume of an upright, you're going to hear the keys more. Wood key actions are a bit quieter, supposedly, due to more material soaking up the sound. Consider the P-515 and the PX-S6000. Maybe the ES-920 (plastic RH3) would sound quiet enough. Also consider the Kawai VPC1 controller hooked up a VSTi or the V3 piano module.

    Thank you for really great review.
    May I ask for your advice? I'm in search of a portable piano for my daughter who is just starting piano lessons, and also for myself as I am returning to piano playing. I have been considering the Kawai ES120 and the Roland FP-30X. However, having heard the FP-E50, I'm leaning slightly more towards that over the FP-30X.
    One concern is that the PHA-4 keyboard may be too heavy for my daughter, recalling how challenging it was when I began playing at the age of six. I would appreciate your insights on this.
    Additionally, I would like to know if any of these pianos have an app that indicates the player's current position in the piece being played (for example, through a running line), displayed within the app itself. Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Brent from Merriam Music here! Thanks for writing in with your question! The ES120 and FP30X are both excellent pianos with a fantastic touch and tone. However, you are correct in saying that the FP30X is a heavier touch comparatively to the ES120. There is an argument for both pianos. Most beginning players will find the ES120 less fatiguing on the fingers in the early stages, which would perhaps be more engaging. However, the heavier touch of the PHA4 action is more akin to an acoustic upright or grand piano, which would make the transition to an instrument like that down the road easier. I think either option is a very safe bet. :)
      As for the app question, I am not familiar with a particular app that does that to be entirely honest. Perhaps, one of our helpful community members here will have some suggestions or ideas. Thanks again and all the best!

Haven't played with the thing yet. Have tried the DgX 670 though. It did not feel like a toy and the piano was top notch.

At these prices, there has to be a trade off - at least one weakness/deficiency that the customer/pianist has to live with. You can't have a great action, plus a great soundbank, plus nice controls, connectivity and functionality. The best thing is to list these priorities in the order that suits you the customer (which is highly dependent on your application) then choose the instrument that seems to come closest to the same order
    The PHA4 (found on FP-30X & F/RP-107) is probably the most responsive of these actions under 1000 US, though Stu didn't mention the RH3 action found on the Korg C1 and the LP380U. I would suggest any of these instruments to piano students (studying for the early grades etc) logically requiring the best action under 1000 US.
    For those who value having many great sounds, there are several good choices here, but the German piano patches on the PX-S3100 are hard to beat.
    At the risk of stating the obvious, for a few hundred dollars more, there are some exciting models available. I would urge any amateur or semi-pro performing pianists to spend at least a bit more than 1000 US on a portable piano or stage piano if they possibly can.
    And as always, I urge manufacturers to produce a semi-pro 73-key portable piano with a graded action. They fit sideways into many cars. Parking a long car is next to impossible in many towns around the world.

      I just checked the video on my end and do not hear any obvious clipping or distortion. It does sound like the piano's level was hot though (as if the volume was at 90-100% on the unit itself).

    Don't know if I heard right, but if the order of the playing demos was Kawai ES120, Yamaha DGX670, Roland FP30X, Roland FPE50, Casio PXS3100, Kawai KDP75, and if the ES120 and KDP75 have the same sound engin because if it was in that order I was a bit surprized the KDP75 sounded a lot mor refined than the ES120 in spite of having the same sound engin.
    Also I think it's more of a subjective opinion weather the PHA4 really is the best action under 1,000 dollars in spite of having triple sensors, and escapement feel because the escapement though it feels great I barely notice it on a wel regulated grand piano so I think it's more of a want than a need. I also tried the GHS, and RHC that only have double sensors, and they both IMO more responsive especially in soft playing than the PHA4🎹🎶

      @MerriamPianos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts! The KDP75 and ES120 do have the same tone engine, but I do not know what you mean about there being a slight difference in the tone. Furthermore, there will be a difference in the sonic experience when playing the pianos in person due to the different speaker configurations. As for the PHA4 action being the best action, that it is certainly subjective as I'm sure Stu would also acknowledge. At the end of the day, the "best" action is the one that you connect with the most and inspires your playing. :)

      I wonder how difficult it would be to retroftt the KDP75 into the case of an old grand? I'm thinking that it might be the one that would be the easiest to remove from its pressboard case. I wrote Kawai about doing something like this , and the KDP75 might just be the ticket.

      I think it might be pretty simple. I'm thinking more of a 125 year old upright here in Denver that has a nice case that's in good shape. Here's why think it would be fairly simple..
      1. The KDP75 is not too expensive and the guts are already in a pressboard case. Therefore it's pretty much designed to fit in a wooden case unlike most of the slab pianos in a plastic box which is stiffened with steel runners.
      2. I believe it is probably controlled from the cheek block like all the other Kawai digital uprights. The controller is relatively small and probably has a limited number of wires.
      3. The amplifier and speakers are probably not large and are designed for a wood case. A DGX-670 would not be nearly as practical as the control panel is massive with a multitude of buttons.
      4. The KDP75 has a 3 pedal unit. Again that is going to be relatively compact, and fit a wood case, and connect with an electrical wire so it's not as complicated as mechanical pedals with rods would be.
      5. The speakers could be mounted onto the sound board much like the CA99 - 901. It would probably sound even better in an old piano with an actual sound board than in the particle board case it comes with from the factory, which doesn't even have a soundboard.
      6. In a short while one will probably appear on Craig's list so I should be able to pick one up at at good price. For example my son was able to get a basically brand new Yamaha Custom Alto Sax that originally sold for $3,500 at the time for $1,900. It probably wasn't even played once due to some strange circumstances. This type of thing happens all the time if you are patient. People are actually giving away grand pianos these days. Most big old uprights are most likely going to the dumpster. I only paid $125.00 for the one I have, and as I said it has a rather nice case that is not overly ornate.
      7. Even a dealer might have one that the case got damaged for one reason or another. I've had merchants give me stuff if they believed I could fix it. More than once actually.

    A POTENTIALLY HUGE ISSUE THAT IS OVERLOOKED IN MOST ONLINE REVIEWS Of THE ROLAND FP-E50 is the fact that MIDI implementation on the FP-E50 is crippled: it sends and receives on one MIDI channel only. So if you have created a dual sound that you love - say a piano-pad combination - and you send it to your DAW, you will only get ONE of those sounds when you play the performance back. That's right, that beloved dual voice that you painstakingly created on the FP-E50 and saved to a "scene" will only be played back through the FP-E50 by the DAW as a SINGLE VOICE. In other words, in this case, you can hear the piano, but not the pad. The FP-E50 can't play dual instruments AND it can't play split keyboard performances back through your DAW. This is a very basic maneuver for anyone using a DAW: record a performance from a piano, make changes on the DAW, play it back on the piano, and then record the perfected performance into audio. Nope. Not gonna do it on this with dual voices or keyboard splits. It also will not record anything to MIDI on the keyboard and export to the DAW. And you won't be able to play multiple FP-E50 instruments on multiple tracks on your instrument (on different MIDI channels) from your DAW. What instrument these days only sends and receives on one MIDI channel each? The FP-E50 is not a multi-timbral instrument with respect to MIDI. The RD-88 is. While the latter does not have a record or accompaniment function it SHOULD (I don't own one) perform these basic MIDI functions with dual sounds, keyboard splits and multiple instruments on multiple MIDI channels as is normally expected. For the home user, the lack of a recorder and accompaniment is easily compensated for by the simple purchase of something like Band-in-a-Box for a hundred bucks. None of the reviews I've seen online has addressed this "disability" and no one in the stores was able to explain this to me in advance (and I really tried to find out). WHAT WAS ROLAND THINKING (??) when they crippled the FP-E50 in this way??? I wish I had purchased the RD-88 or some other piano for my home use to connect to my DAW.

      Thanks for tuning in and sharing your very thoughtful insights on the matter! While I can certainly understand the complaint and frustration when using the FP-E50 in certain musical contexts, it is to be expected to have some limitations. It also does not have app compatibility, whereas the FP60X does. However, this is to be expected to some extend for an instrument that packs so many sounds, features, and functions into it, as well as an incredible core piano experience via the PHA4 action and SuperNATURAL tone engine, for a price point of $1500. Naturally, if you're looking for an instrument to do it all, one should expect to be in a slightly higher price category. Ultimately, some concessions had to be made, which will be frustrating to some users. I'm sorry to hear that the FP-E50 does not include the functionality that you require, but I hope you are able to find a workaround that satisfies your musical needs. :)

    • @anthony13299
      @anthony13299 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup. It seems to me that they cut corners and the limitations were just the ones that have limited my use. Other people won't even notice. But.... I did want to get the word out there for other folks like me who want to use this keyboard with their DAW so they could make up their own minds whether they could live with the limitations BEFORE they purchased the instrument. Too late for me, unfortunately. BTW - I really love your piano reviews!

      @anthony13299 is there another piano that you know of that for sure does not have that limitation? I’m interested in using the midi function w/ my daw, and was interested in the FP-E50, until I thankfully came upon your comment! Thanks for mentioning this overlooked issue!

    • @anthony13299
      @anthony13299 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is my understanding that most MIDI-enabled keyboards transmit and receive on multiple MIDI channels. But check with a store representative or read the online manual to be sure before buying. If you like the Roland PHA-4 action and the Roland sounds, these same features can be found on the Roland RD-88. It is a stage piano however so it will not record your music and doesn't have (I think) very many if any, play-along features. Again, confirm all this with others. Stu does great demos of VST virtual pianos that live on your computer and often play right through your DAW (like Logic). I have unplugged my FP-E50 which sits unused across the room, and have purchased the Noire Piano for use with my older Roland piano. I just turn the volume off on the piano and play the much nicer Noire or Ravenscroft VST apps. After I sell my FP-E50 I just may use these wonderful virtual pianos instead of replacing the FP-E50. The FP-E50 has a number of unique features but those same features can make it a bit of an odd duck for some people, and its MIDI limitations will take it off a list of potential purchases for others like you and me.

    Don't buy a Casio PXS if you are planning to learn anything piano more than a mere hobby, because the action in the keys are lacking, and the weights on it are flawed, for example, the weight of the black key is lighter than the weight of the white key, and good luck trying to play normally deep forward into the key.

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is some truth to having a heavier touch for serious classical playing/practicing, but I would certainly not rule out the PXS instruments for specific applications. For instance, many high-level classical players use the PXS serious pianos as a gigging instrument. While the action is lighter, the piano sound is great and these models are extremely portable. :)

    So glad i purchased es110 and roland fp60x. I didnt like a couple things about es110. The keybed thudding, never being able to is the bluetooth function, lack of usb interface and not quiet enough volume. But its piano samples made me want to play forever and its harmonics were unparalleled by any other in its piano presets. I recently traded up after a year and a half of owning to es120 and it is a smoke show.. i tried all the pretty digi pianos with their cool ui's nobs and buttons even some console pianos. Imo not one couldatch the quality of piano sound on es120. Es120 for sure fixed my gripes minus a missing ui but finnaly i can atleast use my phone as ui. I wish i would have traded roland for it though. Roland fp60x is ok if im using the strings, organs or e pianos. So 60x really jist an effects tool. Its onbard sound has some serious issues with speakers cracking around 60% volume with flat eq settings, kawai es110 and es120 doesnt do this and for the most part still gives you a good/controlled piano experiance. Ill soon demo my setup so folks can see what im talking about.. there are sveral videos describing roland fp and fpx sonic annoyances on the tube. I will likely trad up to a yamaha for its effects from my experiance atleast they didnt distort as bad and the mids werent as muhd. Anyone wanna make a trade 8] ? Yeah but super happy with the 120 and dont be fooled with the flash brands gimmicky options. Mystage can only help so much. Buy the kawai and get a controller like this yamaha afterword of you want to add sounds and effects. Kawai makes digital pianos in the under 1k range all the rest are just keyboards. Ill sit and play kawai 2 maybe 3 hours straight almost every day and evan after 5 months with roland its hard for me to play it over an hour. Thats why im hesitant with this yamaha. And i use a lot of fortissimo playing tool and pink floyd inspired creations. Just sayin.. im not an expert or professional but i have been jamming and noodling on instrements mainly strings since 1991 and grasp harmonics and resonance as a signicant driving force in creating good/excellent erranged music.. dont waist your money. Buy kawai and you too will end up a fanboy/girl+. Just want to make sure im inclusive 8] gratbrwview Stu. Btw 30x is feels like it might play a hair nicer than 60x but still has such a cheap option for piano samples that just sound as fake as 60x i could have spent half the money and been a tad happier doing so. While still getting the effects i do like on the roland that i named previously. 30x samples are still distorted and phasey soinding to me. Yamaha has some great descent piano samples but that action is tough and takes some getting used to. Key texture on roland feels great but playing it there is almost a feeling that the keybeds are shallow.. here is my essay for the week Stu. I love your videos evan though i dont agree with you all the time. You have great content and tallent. Bless you Sir and all that help your music genius and andeavors.
