Very informative. I put self healing PPF on my power flip up windshield. Wash it with hot water and all the fine scratches disappear.

I have an American land master and it came with the half windows because they installed it and put it into my financing. I Tin windows for a living so they make special films that you could put on the outside of the glass that protects the glass from any scratches, I put Ceramic window film by Max Pro on the outside of my glass to protect me from the heat and protect the glass from the scratches from driving out there in the woods so there you go protected with window 1tint or safety films

The complaint I have always heard in North Idaho is driving logging or gravel County roads with a windshield and the dust gets pulled around behind and covers you. I'm talking about an open model ATV. So most reccomend the fold down or easily removable models. We need to pick something for our new Polarias commander crew. I can see that no shield is not a good option. I have been trying to look at all the info on this but have'nt seen anyone talking about the dust. I know one guy last year that took his out picking huckleberries one time and sold it. He said it was just easier to drive his AC truck.

I have the SuperATV Scratch Resistant Flip Windshield. I take care to use a clean rag and spray bottle to minimize scratching when I'm cleaning it. I love the versatility of three positions (closed, gapped, fully open). You forgot to talk about the importance of a rear windscreen/film/etc. -- something otherwise the dust just loops around back. I got a simple back film and it made our SXS a little bubble when going down a dirt road. Night and day difference compared to before. I also put in DIY floor mats to prevent dust from coming up through the drain holes in the floor. Good video, thanks!

You had me dying laughing with the flies. They drive me absolutely crazy The level of flies and moths this year in Arizona is unbelievable. Another reason i hate summers here lol.
On a more serious note The downfall of the full glass windshields in my opinion is all the blind spots we lose a lot of visibility with the windshield frame.

I used to guide bear hunters, One of our clients came to camp with a side by side, He was towing it on an open trailer, He had to travel 5 miles from the highway to camp and in that short distance a rock got thrown up and broke his very expensive glass windshield, He had to go through a very rainy camp with no windshield, Turned me off glass windshields right away,

My windshield came with a travel cover. It’s fairly thick and durable with straps to tie it off.
Even a poly/ plastic windshield would scratch up driving down the road.
I agree a cracked $350 glass windshield would suck.

I have a narrow plastic windshield. The problem I have is dust, even if you have a full windshield if your following your going to get dust. The only way to escape it is have a full enclosure. Or ride alone, one sxs.

  • @Gruuvin1
    @Gruuvin1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

There is no windshield that is the best for all users, but glass is almost always better unless you really abuse the machine.
If you are going to be smacking through branches, plastic is less likely to shatter, but glass doesn't scratch, and scratches are a killer in direct sun. RainX on glass is awesome!
If you are a hunter, run a fully enclosed cabin, or plan on getting muddy, flip up is better than fixed, but if not, fixed is stronger and looks cleaner.
I use my SxS for ranch work and touring, so I got a fixed Kolpin glass windshield which looks amazing on the Mule Pro FXT.

Would have liked to hear the benefit of keeping branches from coming in the cab on tight trails. Especially at high speeds. Also with a glass windshield you can add a wiper. I don't think it would be a good idea with a plastic one.

You didn't mention that the negative ion dust doesn't adhere to glass like plastic. Also, I wish you had gone into testing windshield "wings". Like cars of old that had window wings, these look like a great way to deflect dust intrusion. For many, dust control is a matter of doing the sport, or not doing it in our region. Many folks just give up rather than fight it.

    • @DerangedOffRoad

BTW there's a huge difference between a straight half windshield and a half windshield with a lip at the top!!!
The straight one will have wind going along the windshield and then heading back into your at the top, where as the lip actually moves the wind up then forward a bit and then it goes up over your face and head!
    HUGE differences!!!
So many of these comparisons between full and half windshields, and most don't mention the lip at the tip at all, and it's a completely different situation...
