I want one too. You played a chord and it was the elusive tone we search for like the holy grail. No need for pedals just sweet chime and saturation. Glorious
The benefits an Eric Haugen gear review or demo are wonderful: Eric's stellar playing, genuine interest and intelligence in learning about the gear being reviewed, high integrity and honesty in assessing gear, and always thorough, engaging, and warm in sharing his thoughts. The only downside? Eric is so flippin' good as a musician that I could hand him a shoebox strung with rubber bands and he'd make it sound fantastic.
“Hey you, kid! Give this a listen. Sure it costs a little, but you won’t get hooked! It’s just a free taste kid, see if you like it, don’t you want to be like the cool kids?” And just like that, I am hooked, thanks a lot Mr. Haugen. Seriously, that amp is nirvana/holy grail unspeakably good.
We want more of Eric and the Bel-Ray.....come on Eric!! And thank you Steve Carr for you unending enthusiasm and passion, chasing the sweetest tone, harmonics and tube driven mojo. Love it !👏
I used to have a Carr Artemus. Beautiful looking and even better sounding amp. Carr is in a league of his own. No one builds with the quality and attention to detail that he does, and that's on top of how incredible his amps sound!
Well Eric, you just helped Carr sell another amp! Fantastic demo sir. You seem to know just what to play, how to play it, and how to describe what you are doing, feeling, and hearing. Watching this made me feel like I was hanging with one of my buddies to play with some of their new gear. Thank you!
Been watching your videos for a while now and love your playing and lessons. Found a few Carr amps at my local guitar shop here in Charlotte and remembered that you played one, so I gave it a shot. I had your same reaction at 8:57 with a Carr Telstar. Just an incredible amplifier. I
Chasing Heather Crazy! And that is a great-sounding amp. The price is not for everyone, but it's not the primary consideration for everyone. There are plenty of cheaply made amps in the world built by exploited labor. Some people want to support locally made products and pay people fairly for their time and labor.
Agreed. There's also been a drastic change in how we buy music gear over the years - in the 60's and 70's, you were rarely likely to have more than ONE good amp - for instance, a Fender Deluxe Reverb in 1965 (made in the USA at the time, of course) was over $2000, once you adjust the 60's price for inflation. We've gotten so used to things being relatively inexpensive, and now even a non-gigging home hobbyist player can afford a stable of amps made overseas; that's a *wonderful* thing, but there's still volumes (heh) to be said for locally-made, higher-end amps that do something uniquely wonderful and just exude care and charisma. If it really speaks to you, you might not ever need another amp besides this one! Over the long term, that's a bargain indeed.
Now that's classy AF!🔥🔥 Hometown Builder and Hometown Player..no better way to showcase to the World the craftsmanship of the builder and the inspirational tones you can achieve by having Eric run it through the paces. Great video Eric, and Great amp Carr Amps! ❤❤ P.S. Wine color would compliment your music room very nicely!😊
Fun to see you so giddy about this one! His amps are so insanely good - I have a mk1 Mercury that I love so much, sounds amazing both recorded and live. He knows what’s up.
@taylorfusion I have the mk1, which doesn't sound particularly Marshall-y to me... but it's capable of that kind of thing. I tend to play it more clean, and it sounds really great on the edge of breakup. It goes fully saturated but I just don't use those sorts of sounds that much, so can't speak to whether it's good at that or not. The mk2 version (Mercury V) seems much more Marshall-oriented, has separate hi/lo volume controls etc.
Hey, I´ve got an amp that goes up to 12, but this one goes up to 130! 🤩Great demo and a good choice of musical phrazes to show what´s important regarding electric-guitar-sound! Thanx!
The opposite end of the spectrum to the Supro the other week. This is glorious and I, like you lean heavily to the Fender end of the spectrum normally. The best tones I have heard in a long time.
Oh man, I love Carr amps, Steve always builds killer unique circuits. I had seen this one and a few clips and thought it looked cool but wasn’t too into it as I’m usually more into American style amps too…but after hearing this demo, yeah now I want one. Sounds so good and love that tremolo!
Really enjoyed the content and flow of your review, Eric. You and I appear to be in the same sound wheelhouse, so your playing tests and the amp sound are like soul food to me 👍👍👏
Well, great. Not sure if I needed to know that this exists. My wife is going to hate me, but it has to be done! Great song choices, Eric. You and I have the same taste. I've been on a big GBV kick recently.
Whoa, that is coming through the recording damn nice! And apparently sounds good in the room 😆 I wonder how many songs are in that box? That is some of the nicest chime and edge of break up sounds I’ve heard! Color wise, I would go with brown gator or cream 🤘
Wow excellent video, has made me think I need another Carr amp. Have the Viceroy which I still love & my #1 amp. But this Bel-Ray could very well be amp style I’m missing & a great compliment. Thanks for sharing this has gone straight to my number 1 must have for this year 😎
All of Steve’s newer amps (Telstar, Skylark, Super Bee, Merc V, Bel-Ray) have such different character while producing similarly chimey, chewy, overtone-laden, smooth distortion. He’s nailed holy grail edge-of-breakup and distortion tones on these smaller amps, all attained without making you go deaf.
Damn… sold! I thought the SuperBee was my end game (yeah right) but I just hit the must have purchase button! Going to sell me Telestar to make the purchase hurt a little less. Love that you threw in Guided By Voices… so good!! Gracias!
Wow, this amp sounds fantastic. I just ordered one of the new Bad Cat Black Cats to fill this exact some spot in my amp collection -- if only I'd known the Bel Ray was on the way! Will have to try one once they're available.
What a beautiful piece of gear, jesus Christ. Sounds like a dream. You sure did it justice, here. Steve couldn't ask for a better advertisement. Inly had a few mintues so i skipped thru it pretty quick lol. But damn, so many cool voices. I really dig the H setting
These are the kind of reviews I like. When someone who knows what they’re talking about, and isn’t trying to make a living off reviews, is genuinely just excited enough to show a new piece of kit. That being said, I’m a millennial school teacher and someone in my family would have to die and leave me $$$$ for me to justify spending the price tag. If someone passes though and the check clears, this would definitely worth the cash 😂
As long as I've been watching your videos, I had no idea where you are. I just enjoy the videos. Now I find out you're practically next door. I'm in Alamance. Maybe I'll see you in person somewhere and give you the rock star treatment. LOL Keep it up. Thanks for the videos.
Hullo maaate! Happy seasons greetings to you Eric! I got a big problem with Carr Amps!!! 🤔 I ain’t got one! 😔 I reckon the Carr Super Bee would be my desert island amplifier! So... I’ll just keep on dreaming! Rock on sir 👍🇦🇺
From a fellow North Carolinian, great sounding amp and nice demo with the Love "Forever Changes" song. I might look into swapping my Dr. Z Maz. Or something.
Eric, Thanks so much for this demo. This is the Tele sound I have in my head but never seem to put together. Im hoping to pick up the Carr Bel Ray. I have a question on the Tele pickups in this clip. Does this Tele have a Tom Brantley pickup set ( if so which set)or are these fender stock or something else? This tone really inspires me and I really appreciate your playing and this post. It makes me want to play more. Appreciate your time and talent.
@@EricHaugenGuitar Eric Hello again. Thank you for the reply. My new Carr Bel Ray is coming next week so you definitely helped sell that one! I need to pick up a new mic as well and I really like this Ohma mic in the video. Can you tell me if its the condenser or ribbon version? And do you think the mic face plate pattern makes much difference, if you've tried any others? I did by one of your courses on truefire and am enjoying it very much. Thanks again for all you do. I find it all so helpful. Best wishes.
A great amp along with some GBV, Isbell, Captain Beyond and others, cannot beat that. The second album from Captain Beyond, Sufficiently Breathless, is pretty good by the way. There is Santana like elements all over the LP.
Nice demo of that new amp. Mr. Carr really came up with an original design for a rock amp. I hope that's a prototype 'cuz the panel label says "keep away from moister". lol.
I've watched the full video in teh past, so apologies as I don't recall all of your thoughts on this...hows the clean channel? Is there some head room to run some drives pedals into it? Not full clean, but clean enough to use with a pedal with a medium hitting drummer. A bit cleaner than your chop chords on chasing heather at 5:50.
Great tones, but at 16 watts I would have headroom concerns gigging with it. If it has built in attenuator why not make it a 30 watt? Also, is there a foot switch to go switch between tones? That’s what I love about my Rivera Venus 6 one tap from Blackface to Marshall.
That sounds and looks awesome, I hope they make it for the UK market too (he has borrowed British sounds after all! 😂). Would love to get my hands on one in 2024.
@@davidLPSTThanks, I contacted them this morning and they’re hoping to have the Bel Ray in stock in Jan / Feb 2024. Priced around £3,000 depending on the the US / GBP exchange rate. A lot to fork out for an amp but then it does sound amazing based on Eric’s video.

Great Demo! I’ve played a Carr Rambler for years, the Bel Ray is an amazing amp.
Sounds great. Looks great. Always nice to see good things find good people. Congrats!
Purely amazing. These things are going to be highly sought after collectors items one day.
I think this is my favorite guitar channel. He always has the tastiest riffs to demo. Alone Again Or...not a common jam these days but should be.

Carr amps are great. I got to play one about 8 years ago. It sounded amazing and so does this one. Awesome.
British Racing Green for the win! Enjoy listening to you have fun with this amp.
Oh my god....What a sound!!
And you even squeezed an Arthur Lee turnaround in. Epic
Glorious amp, man I would LIVE on that H setting
I hope you get one! Suites you for sure and you deserve it! Thanks for all you do man.
I love your channel so much because you play all my favourite bands like GBV and love! One time you even played Lilys! Love this shit

GBV for the win, always makes me feel happy

Amen!
were you in Del Amitri?!
I'm sure I'll be soundly mocked for this, but I do *not* know what the H stands for; V and M are obvs, but H?
hiwatt
If you get an amp from Steve its not cheap but guaranteed it will sound heavenly!
Hey Eric do you know Emil Amos?
Great playing and great sounding. This amp is not even on the Carr website. I assume its a prototype?
It’s up now!
So cool! ✌️😌🎸
