Ridley Scott being almost 90 years old, I’m not surprised if he just wants to have fun with his movies with the grand scale action scenes. I love the first Gladiator and definitely can’t wait for this one.
I went to Rome in April and did a Colosseum tour, including the lower part UNDER the arena floor. The trap doors and elevators they used to allow the lions, etc., up on the arena floors during battle were so incredible. The place is MASSIVE! And flooding the arena floor, I can only imagine, would have been a major spectacle. It's so awesome to see this rendition of a fully restored Colosseum, considering the condition it is in now. Can't wait to see this!
When I noticed so much happening in these trailers, I almost thought "Oh no, Ridley Scott is throwing way too much into this movie. There are too many things going on, and probably not enough time for a good story." However, there are three things that convince me that this movie might be pretty good: 1. The allotted time of this film is set to be 2 hours and 21 minutes. That gives the audience plenty of time for a good story even being slightly less time than the length of the original Gladiator. 2. It definitely looks the part for taking place after the events of the original Gladiator even if the scenes in the Colosseum might be exaggerated a bit. 3. Good dialogue in the trailers. A lot of the dialogue from the original film was so poetic and perfect. This film seems to have some very well-crafted dialogue as well. Having said all of that, my expectations are definitely slightly higher at this point.
First trailer was awesome, this trailer…less so. The CGI monkeys are ridiculous and making Lucius the son of Maximus completely goes against the first movie. Disappointed.

Amused, Maximus complies] Lucius Verus : Gladiator, are you the one they call the Spaniard? Maximus : Yes. Lucius Verus : They said you were a giant. They said you could crush a man's skull with one hand. Maximus : [looks at his palm] A man's? No. A boy's... [Lucius smiles, and points to the art on Maximus' armor] Lucius Verus : They have good horses in Spain? Maximus : Some of the best. [points] Maximus : This is Argento, and this is Scarto. They were my horses. They were taken from me. Lucius Verus : I like you Spaniard, and I shall cheer for you. Maximus : They let you watch the games? Lucius Verus : My uncle says it makes me strong. Maximus : And what does your father say? Lucius Verus : My father's dead. Lucius' Attendant : Master Lucius, it is time. Lucius Verus : I have to go. Maximus : Thy name is Lucius? Lucius Verus : Lucius Verus, after my father. I turned to my mate and said he is Maximus Son Gladiator 2 there for you if he is his son.

Lucius had a father, who was also called Lucius, he died. Maximus had a son with his wife who was around the same age as Lucius. To say that Maximus is Lucius’ father means he would have had to have an affair with Lucilla whilst he was married. From what we see of his character that makes absolutely no sense. In the first movie Lucius has clearly blonde hair, yet in this new one it has magically changed to more dark/black, stupid. And you ‘turning to your mate’ means absolutely nothing. As for you claiming I have never seen the original, shut up. It is my favourite movie of all time.

People would fight too the death and murder eachother while crowds were cheering it on. They were real savages back then lol

Looks good. But damn, allot stolen from the first movie. Allot of the same dialogue, the double sword decapitation etc. Hope it brings something new.
