6:03 Whenever you're dealing with a competitive mindset... I call it being locked in.... People who got locked into a vision, that’s it, that’s their drive, that’s their passion, Critics don’t matter, this doesn’t matter, they are going to do whatever it fucking takes to be the best at what they do. Most people in society will never understand that, because they’ve never had passion about anything. People who’ve had passion about things and worked their ass off for it, will totally get it.
That's good advice dude. If you want to do something give it your all and put the work in. If you make it awesome, if you don't fuck it, you gave it your best. That said you should enjoy the journey, chances are you will. So at the end of it if you had a good time, it was worth it.
u know, I woke up this morning feeling totally down. I'm goin thru the motions of breakfast, shower, etc. and had no motivation to go to the gym today. Watched a couple mp45 vids and bodybuilding motivation vids, as well as this and as of now I have the drive to go to the gym in a few minutes. Thank you.
I agree totally. My Ace card was used in my 50's. I trained , ate and and used all the leagal supplements and did 3 national records in my 40's. I still train, but do not compete anymore. Is all your knowledge from OJT or did you go to college also?
Watch his documentary where he talks about his training in the beginning. He says something like "I knew what was needed to do to get to this level. Training hard, taking steroids, etc" I can't quote him right, but he talked about taking steroids
most people say 5x5 is too much volume for a natty. i would suggest reading some literature like "starting strength and practical programming" because once you understand how the body and anabolism works, you can design yourself a much better routine than following a cookie cutter routine.
Read work by respected coaches/scientists like Frederick C. Hatfield, Alexander Prilepin and Vladimir Zatsiorsky, also official ACSM Training Guidelines. Also read on muscle fiber types, fiber activation and which types have most size potential. Then read up on recovery periods and resultant hormone fluctuations of neuromuscular fatigue vs high-percentage muscle fiber activation. Then myofibrillar vs sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (since you keep asking). Or keep reading musclemag and stay small.
I agree but at the same time you meet people everyday who are genuinely convinced they can be the next Ronnie Coleman, not only drug free but can get close to that size within a few years. More often than not these are the people that give up too early and start taking drugs and DON'T reach their full potential, rather than being realistic about their goals and learning the effects of the drugs and how to use them properly, and using them once they reached the proper point in their training.
3 of those people admitted to taking drugs, and the other three dont compete against other's who have been caught for drugs. there's always going to be a huge difference between someone not taking drugs and someone who does.
that sounds like a good routine, i would keep going and focus on gradually bringing up the weight on all your exercises. if you start hitting a snag you might need to evaluate your body and to find weak points and do a bit of isolation work for those, for example abs are a common weak point for both squats and deadlifts. a lot of westside trainers advocate this approach. upper back/rear delts are another common weak point.
No I made a typo and corrected it. Volume training is an inefficient way to train if size or strength is your goal; this myth was disproven decades ago. If you want to do curls till the cows come home, by all means be my guest.
... @deadpan237 a 5x5 program is one of the programs with the least volume unless you want him to do 5/3/1 which would be ridiculous cause he doesnt have the technique nor the cns development to go uninjured... thats 25 reps compared to a beginner 3x10 which is 30 reps and tons more bodyparts per session and less rest.
for strenght it is. for size isnt. still works though. however if u are serious for gaining strenght 1 rep is the most u should be able to do becuase the weight should be a lot
Volume isn't the key, as it tends towards sarcoplasmic instead of myrofibillar hypertrophy. Intensity is the key. Volume and failure are for builders looking for size, not strength athletes. But it's important to remember that one should supplement strength training with endurance, cardio, and even fuckin yoga and breath training to develop a strong all-around base. Specific goals are for elite athletes; most people want to be take a wide variety of challenges.
my friend, Brustin Fulpenter wants to be a body builder, but hes already using synthol and hes not even on an ameture level. can you guys help me to get him off the synthol its gunna catch up to him some day.
if 99 percent of the people on here took steroids to try to become a pro athlete they would still not make it to the big leagues. Taking roids will not teach anyone all the skills for base ball, foot ball or MMA. Taking roids will not give someone basic genetics of Mark McGuire either. If their were no drugs, McGuire would still be ahead of almost all in the world speed, strength, timing power. If McGuire were all natural he would still be stronger than many people that use them. It's true!
Once you've read into all those things I mentioned, it should become blatantly obvious to you why volume training is the WORST way to build either size or strength, unless you're on copious amounts of drugs.
=/ his analogy of flipping the ace is pretty clever but it makes me question the relevance of that to bodybuilding. With bodybuilding you're continually using drugs, (not just anabolic steroids), and its not like a 5 yr boost where you drop off and fall at the end. If so, then why is it that a pro football player will drop out after taking steroids but a pro bodybuilder won't. ?? doesn't make sense to me
Very true Conrad, the word overtraining is thrown around for to much now a days and most of the people saying are pussy and don't work to put in the work.
@SUFFOCATIONFAN Guidos, Frat-Broz, Country Boys, the list goes on. There are a lot of douche-bag stereotypes people mold themselves into that value the appearance of strength over real strength.
@ffanatic87 oh shit i seen this video man, dave is the fucking man. He is one of the best speakers going when it comes to motivating others to become the best that they can be. his attitude is fucking epic lol
@pisswizzard Not in bodybuilding you won't. It's different to get strong but to keep all that muscle with 2% bodyfat is impossible after a certain weight.
there's too many variables that come into play to say volume isn't the best way, or it is. it worked for the bulgarians, russians, and chinese in OLY lifting. that's a SHIT TONNE of volume and they're strong as fuck. are they doing it wrong? equally a lot of powerlifters have success with a lot less.
@LCStreetPhotographer you've got it partially wrong, he's saying that genetics is a limiting factor. If you've got 45" shoulders you're never going to be a world record powerlifter, FACT.
for heavy ass compounds? uhhh, yeah.... unless you wanna top out in like 2 months and then build a bunch of sarcoplasm...in which case go for it....oh do GVT too i hear it's awesome brah -_-
Not sure if serious, but hey!, sup?? it's been a year, have u learn something from that year. by now you probably know for sure Ronnie and Arnold took ALL KINDS of Celltech :)
You're being stubborn. Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy is the creation of sarcoplasm in the muscle cells. IE building sarcoplasm. Or "generating". Whatever. It's really not that hard to understand. I'm assuming you already know what sarcoplasm is. In which case you should also know the role of myoglobin, and which types of muscle fibers utilize myoglobin. Read those things I mentioned in the previous comment, especially "Science and Practice of Strength Training" by Zatsiorsky.
I've never heard anyone say 5x5 is too much volume lmfao. People and their stupid ass "over-training" claims on anything that's slightly taxing on the body. People just say OVERTRAINING cause they are too damn lazy to actually put in the effort needed.
@rugby121 I think what he says at 9:00 is fucking right-on. And guys who take roids and only care about how they look (bodybuilders are ok since they compete - guidos are NOT) really piss me off. I can be drug free squatting 500 for reps but these juiced up douchebags get all the curb appeal and street cred for appearing to be strong cause they have huge, greasy tanned arms even though they struggle to squat 225.
Actually if done right, maximal strength development can increase your flexibility significantly. I know a number of powerlifters and bodybuilders who have very flexible hips and legs. Look at flex wheeler when he was able to do the splits completely during his bodybuilding competitions. Also, take a look at gymnasts and martial arts actors like Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren who in their prime looked like Pro Fitness models.
I love when he says "Most likely society will never get it because they don't have a passion for anything." FUCKING BEAUTIFUL.
"The human potential is limited by the human mind." - Awesome

Watched a couple mp45 vids and bodybuilding motivation vids, as well as this and as of now I have the drive to go to the gym in a few minutes. Thank you.
i have never really looked at steroid use from this perspective, but the way he explains it really gives me a lot to think about.
I agree totally. My Ace card was used in my 50's. I trained , ate and and used all the leagal supplements and did 3 national records in my 40's. I still train, but do not compete anymore. Is all your knowledge from OJT or did you go to college also?
This guy is awesome ! He is obviously in great conditon, but he's also articulate too.

It’s mental toughness and hardworking
@ 11:11 I wish more peole would understand this. Such a true statement.
most people say 5x5 is too much volume for a natty. i would suggest reading some literature like "starting strength and practical programming" because once you understand how the body and anabolism works, you can design yourself a much better routine than following a cookie cutter routine.
This guy knows his shit, plain and simple.
This so inspirational
Tate you're the MAN !!!
Dave Tate is awesome. Really smart guy. I enjoyed this.
Really? The way he talks gave me the opposite impression.
@@philj9594and why is that?

Well spoken Mr. Tate!

Yes, when the decision about facial hair comes around, the answer is always yes.

i love that fucking ace card analogy
Finally someone who understand the place of genetics.
Where do we get are Ace cards?
Last time I bought a deck of cards they simply did not have any aces in it. Sad day ..Sad day
lol

Mugsy Bogues was only 5'3", and the shortest person to ever play in the NBA.
@BeastFromTheDepths yes
Dave Tate is describing the Pygmalion effect, or the belief that we live up to other people's expectations.
Very true Conrad, the word overtraining is thrown around for to much now a days and most of the people saying are pussy and don't work to put in the work.
@LCStreetPhotographer Louis Simmons the founder of WestSide Barbell.. has admitted to being on Anabolic Steroids for 32 years.
@SR4LosersIsMYBITCH Your youtube name just made my day that much better!

@deadpan237 which i again just another variable.
