i actually made this, which i am impressed with since i'm a beginner. the tutorial itself was okay, but for someone like me, it was very hard to follow and i had to look up other tutorials on how to do certain things she was doing in the video. this was not just the types of stiches she did. if you are a beginner, i don't reccomend you try this alone. other than that, great tutorial!
i agree this certainly isnt beginner friendly, as i made the video assuming those searching would already be familiar with sewing. I may make an updated version! thanks for the feedback.
Ariane, your tutorial is very well done; your attention to detail is mag! So, just stopping by to express my sincere thanks, as I needed a quick refresher on these little bags. As an older craftswoman, I find it deeply hopeful to discover younger people who love to create. Please accept my respectful kudos, and best wish’s for many more years sewing and otherwise creating.
This is both super helpful (I’m attempting to make a drawstring bag for a set of dice,) but also I could just sit and listen to this on repeat to listen to your voice? Very calm and soothing, and almost reminds me of the tour guides who speak on rides at Disney.
This is a really good tutorial! I have a small glass frog I carry around with me everywhere, as a sort of, comfort item to help with my anxiety and calm me down. Recently it broke in it's original glass container, after being rattled around too much in my backpack, and lost an eye. Having a pouch like this will help a ton to keep it safe and with me, thank you so much! ❤️
Thank you! I was wracking my brains trying to find a way to sew small bag casings by machine. TWO OPENINGS! Brilliant!!! :-) ... and thanks for the tip about the open seams... I have been learning on my own and appreciate ALL tips! :-))
Omg finnaly after watching 7 videos of drawstring bags ( literally I swear) this video Is the best and the easiest video...I was getting frustrated and was giving up when I saw this video!! Tysm!! Definitely gonna try this tomorrow!
I know this video is pretty old, but I just wanted to say thanks. You're presentation and production were top notch. I really really enjoyed it. Great work and keep on keeping on.
Thank you! I wanted a simple explanation of how to make the drawstring part. Every pattern I found was from a quilter who over complicated "easy". Thank you for making it simple.
Thanks so much. This tutorial is perfect because I have a heart shaped rose quartz stone that I want to make a little bag for and give to my boyfriend.
This video was very helpful, thank you so much! I want to make it thicker though by adding a microfiber sheet on the inside, and i wonder whats the best method to do so. Should i stitch the microfiber sheet with the fabric or maybe glue them together?
Ashi You could sew the two together and treat it as one fabric so you can follow the steps as normal. Or, make the microfiber slightly smaller and shorter at the top so it isn't incorporated into the drawstring part, as the bulk may weaken the effect. just hand stitch the top portion to finish the seam or use iron on hem tape.
2 years later and I'm seeing this, and it looks so easy and I was looking for these kinds of bags but couldn't find it, didn't know I could make it myself!
using a serger would be ideal to finish the ends but if you dont have one, id recommend making the bag with french seams so the rough edges are completely concealed. If unable to, just fold over the extra seam allowance and stitch it down (like your creating a hem)
Must get crystals in my life. Then make these bags too! Lol For downtown la I'd suggest visiting the Broad, the last book store, the ace (for a good city view/afternoon cocktail). Also everything in the arts district or little Tokyo 👌🏽
I love to use these kinds of bags when I go hunting for rocks, crystals, and gems. I found a small purple crystal that looks like a dragons face and it's my favorite, it has a special little bag of It's own. :)
Ruby Lu, TWO STRINGS! Knot one on one side, knot the OTHER string on the other side... It will draw! :-) I didn't get it the first time either but each string loops where the other one knots....
Janet Brimston ha ha! Yeah they really need mini drawstring bags. Ok it they were much bigger and filled with food, water and toiletries - or cakes n wine!
This tutorial is very helpful for a moron like me 🤦 hahah jk but thanks for these it's really helpful 😊 uhm wait can I ask what's kind of fabric did you use?
ok, you insert the string through the tunnel from the left to the right along one side, then when the cord comes out the end you repeat the same steps on the opposite tunnel and tie the ends together creating a circle that loops through the front and back pieces that you sewed together. Then, you take a second piece of cord and repeat the same steps starting from right to left, which will create a tied loop on the right side. Now when you pull the left and right string they gather into the middle from both sides.
Thank you so much for this, this is the first video of yours I watched, and instantly subscribed!!! I am going to use this bag to hold my new fidget spinner thx so much!

Thanks for the vid... I love the stamp you used... Is it especially for fabrics or is it just normal?
thanks! no, i actually just made it by carving an eraser and i used archival ink cause it can be used on fabric as well as paper.
I love the wooden table on which you're working. Neat design.
thanks!
I think it's called "Parquet"
Yeah.. but if it was my working table it'd be ruined by now 😅
>drawstring sewing tutorial for beginners
>skips the actual sewing part
I love everything else though!

I been looking around and this is the easiest explanation I have seen on the internet. Thank you.

This is fantastic!! Inspired me to get more into sewing. Thank you :)

Oh my gosh. I love your crystals. That baby citrine is just precious
♥️
I'm a teacher and I did one following your tutorial for an activity with the little pals, thank you so much!
ohhh how fun 😊♥️ hope they enjoyed themselves
I am just watching this video! Love these little bags! Where did you buy your scissors ✂️?
a local boutique
Great tutorial 👍🏻 can you please tell me is the ink anything special for fabric? Or just a normal ink pad? Thanks 🙏🏻
archival ink works on fabric
@@abetweene thanks
Thank you! I wanted a simple explanation of how to make the drawstring part. Every pattern I found was from a quilter who over complicated "easy". Thank you for making it simple.

Where did you show how to sew the sides and leave opening for the string tunnel.
I love this! Would I have to cut fabric 5x6 to get those dimensions with the seam allowances? Thanks for sharing so much!
I elimated the bottom seam by folding it in half, so more like 5x12 with SA
@@abetweene ahh! Thank you! 😊😊
Im making a drawstring bag for my crystals and this is the FIRST video I clicked on... 🙌🏼 blessed be sista ✨
its like fate
Nice bags, and thanks for the tutorial, but why do you carry rocks around?
They’re crystals & can be used to heal & focus your energy.
all your videos are all so aesthetically pleasing. just makes me so happy ;)
😊
I was hooked from the second you brought Jack into the video - LOL! You are so great!
I'm kind of confused with the dimensions. What are the dimensions of the piece of fabric at the beginning, not the bag itself?
What is that cool stamp you have? I don't think I've seen one before. I'd love to have a custom stamp. Where does it come from? Did you make it?
i made it
I need to see how you made that!
basically like this th-cam.com/video/BQE-nBkE0z4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zy8pnFU--b-4pYrJ except i use these erasers amzn.to/3yW5CW4
Hey girl, thanks for this video, but all the steps weren't that clear 🙈🙈
I could barely pay attention to the tut because I am in love with the production quality... TH-camrs.LOL
awwww thanks!

Thanks for making such a crisp clear and concise video on this! You have amazing nails 🙂
Thanks!

Haha good to know I'm not the only one who names her crystals.
its a must! Lol
2 years later and I'm seeing this, and it looks so easy and I was looking for these kinds of bags but couldn't find it, didn't know I could make it myself!
better late than never 🤗
Perfect video for helping kids learn how to make a bag.
I tried making this with a satin fabric but the fly always when I fold the string ends isn’t professional and very rough. What do I do ?
using a serger would be ideal to finish the ends but if you dont have one, id recommend making the bag with french seams so the rough edges are completely concealed. If unable to, just fold over the extra seam allowance and stitch it down (like your creating a hem)
what are the measurements? ?.
your blog/website expired:(
These were 4”x5” but you can make them into any size
JUST what I was looking for!! For my babies crystals 💎
Where did u get the table from ?? It is very beautiful
i actually just placed wood on the table top
Love this tutorial ! You explained everything well. Did you hand sew these or use a machine ?
+Laprimamateria G I used a machine, but you could hand sew it as well. 😉

Thanks love!! Cant wait😎
How did you sew these? By hand or machine? Great tutorial! But that's the biggest thing I need help with.
+Sarah Marque on a machine. Thanks!!
abetweene Okay! Any tips on sewing by hand? ☺
+Sarah Marquez I would suggest you a running back stitch for a strong hold and to support the weight of what your holding inside the bag.
abetweene you're so awesome thank you!!!
Sarah Marquez your welcome sweetie!
I loved the bag. I actually love drawstring bags.
+Veera Srinivas Raneru thanks!
ive been looking for something to do with like my little leftover fabrics

i cant make my ribbon to 'draw'..what am i doing wrong?????
ruby lu sorry, I'm not sure what your referring to. Which part are you having difficulty with?
when i put the ribbon on my crochet bag, it wont 'draw'on both sides..just drawstrings on one side only..
Ruby Lu, TWO STRINGS! Knot one on one side, knot the OTHER string on the other side... It will draw! :-) I didn't get it the first time either but each string loops where the other one knots....
Made a really pretty one but the instructions weren’t the clearest so it’s a little rough haha

This tutorial is very helpful for a moron like me 🤦 hahah jk but thanks for these it's really helpful 😊 uhm wait can I ask what's kind of fabric did you use?
i used muslin
Im really confused with the string part... :
how can i help?
@@abetweene mine doesn't close when I pull it :
ok, you insert the string through the tunnel from the left to the right along one side, then when the cord comes out the end you repeat the same steps on the opposite tunnel and tie the ends together creating a circle that loops through the front and back pieces that you sewed together.
Then, you take a second piece of cord and repeat the same steps starting from right to left, which will create a tied loop on the right side. Now when you pull the left and right string they gather into the middle from both sides.
