The dumpling is what is called Momo and is best eaten hot and steamed instead of fried! Amazed that you guys did not like the mango lassi! That usually hits the spot! The white dish at the end is what is called a raita - that is a side with the biryani to balance it out!
The usual confusion with Indian food is because food is made with masalas which are different combinations of spices so spicy is actually more about the flavour than the fact that the food is hot! You guys should definitely try Indian food at the restaurant so they can show you what sides go with stuff and also eating most of it hot makes a lot of difference - even our dessert - the gulab (rose) jamun (this is actually the name of a fruit - the Indian black plum - but because these dumplings are shaped like the fruit they are named after it) is better when its served hot!

The "coleslaw" is qctually raita, a yogurt accompaniment to your meal.
Ppl usually drizzle some on the biryani, or if something is very spicy, can dip it in the raita to temper the spice
