      Especially when most people don't have the comic book knowledge to understand the totality of a Flashpoint paradox... It's hard to pull off an in canon reboot because the concept, which is something that happens in comics often, won't translate well in movie goers' linear minds.

      1. Don't unceremoniously boot off the guy everybody likes as the modern Superman, just because you didn't like something he said.
      2. Don't keep around a loser who's mentally ill, and did 10x worse as the Superman actor.
      3. Don't make him the STAR of a movie you're banking your entire existence on.
      4. Don't have the Superman we wanted to see, have a decently important role.
      5. Don't make Supergirl look like some lame butch lesbian.
      6. Don't make a movie who's entire purpose is to erase the contemporary characters that everyone liked (Everyone liked Affleck as Batman, Cavil as Superman, Gadot as Wonder Woman, ray Fisher as Cyborg, and even Jason Momoa as Aquaman), and expect it to break box office records.

      DC has been making garbage since before I was born. It's a constant stream of garbage. Superman, Batman and whoever else is in that universe are just not interesting. They are grandpa's superheroes. And no, just making them young and female won't change that. The character concept is the problem. Even in the lauded Dark Knight, the star wasn't Batman, it was the Joker. Same for the Joaquim Phoenix movie, great stuff. I don't remember a single thing from Dark Knight Rises except the funny voice of Bane.

    • @Whoo_Boy
      @Whoo_Boy ปีที่แล้ว

      He's not still in the role. His mental meltdown began after he finished filming this movie and was already paid in full. It was a fair business decision to release the film in order to try to recoup some of that money. It's like the Cosby Show. They still show in syndication in order to make money and allow the other actors and actresses to profit from royalties. Cosby himself just happens to benefit a little bit financially too. Unlike Ezra, Cosby went to prison. Another white and black comparison when it comes to the judicial system.

    • @stu729
      @stu729 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I mean, given that he's running the show for DC now, Gunn has to give notes so that the movie doesn't set up part 2 of the Snyder Verse, D-She-U or whatever. As much as it sucks to go into it thinking "this is a creative dead end," it also sucks to come back to it years later saying "I wish I hadn't gotten hyped for something they knew wouldn't happen."
      Still, the everyone on the courthouse steps would have been a better ending exactly for what was said, that the last vision of characters isn't dead at a villain's hands, a one off cameo that meant nothing, or a less than ideal sequel.
      The DC film universe (at least to this point) will be studied for years on how not to run a film franchise. A case study in bad casting, bad planning, reactive filmmaking to copy the successful competition, executives putting financial success before film quality, and a weird Kobayashi Maru of sunken costs in films already made.

      The people running the Studios have NEVER been in touch with the Audience - that's what their Underlings are for.
      The current generation of Underlings take their cues from Social Media. Which is... bad, but what's worse is that they have taken a side in the matter and completely discount channels like Midnight's Edge (or worse, turn them into literal enemies - like Doomcock and She Hulk), channels that DO have a finger on the pulse of the audience because they ARE the audience.

    • @Kahless_the_Unforgettable

      @@EnsignRedshirtRicky Not true. They could have taken the tax break. Like they did with Batgirl. This means they don't have to share half of the money with the theater. If they went this route, they probably would have lost about 50 million dollars or so.
      Releasing this movie might cost them as much as 300 million. That means that even without the tax break, they would have been better off not releasing it (since the movie cost 250 million). And the budget would have been lower, because they wouldn't have done the final reshoot.
      They absolutely would have had more money if they didn't release it.

      The movie was already finished by the time Ezra had his spree. You can't really fire the guy from a film that's already made. DC obviously considered scrapping this movie because of it, but they already scrapped other projects for their tax write-offs. I get why they released it; it's a pretty good movie. And I get why people might not want to watch it. Whether that be Ezra being in it or the negative attacks by the conservatives or even just the fact that it's a lame duck movie considering DC is resetting and the Snyder-verse is done.

As for James Gunn, I knew from the start that he was going to fail from the very start of his CEO tenure. He is an over-rated filmmaker and writer with a mediocre resume. Not mention no executive experience. His first film for DC Suicide Sqaud was a flop. The only good superhero film he made well was Gardians of the Galaxy volume one. V2 was not as great, but would have been worse without Kurt Russle. V3 was a disaster waiting to happen. Face it, WB Descovery put a loser in charge. They would have been better off if they went through with the deal they had going with J J Abraham and Bad Robot. Caville was their gold mine actor to fire him was a stupid business decision. Honestly, big corporations have forgotten how to conduct good business. The golden rule of big business ( Give the consumer's what they want. ) Yes, film making and acting is an art, but it is first and foremost a product. The problem is DC wanted an avengers payout instantly, and never considered the idea that the original avengers film worked because numerous films built up anticipation for it.

    A major, major mistake of the film from the get-go was basing the DCEU Flash's first film on Flashpoint. That is essentially the equivalent of Marvel/Sony making No Way Home Tom Holland's first solo film as Spider-Man. No chance to slowly build up the character, establish his regular life and supporting cast...instead, just rush straight into a guest character-loaded multiverse adventure. It really says everything about how the previous DCEU regime just thought they could rush into being Marvel Studios, relying solely on their big character names without having to do any of the story groundwork.
    Even if everything from Ezra Miller's crime spree to the upcoming James Gunn-led reboot didn't happen, The Flash would still be greatly damaged by the story it decided to go with, one which also already had two adaptions already ("The Flashpoint Paradox" animated film and an arc of the TV series) and probably didn't need another immediate revisit.

    Maybe it wasn't such a good idea for Gunn to go scorched Earth, especially as Cavill returning as Supes was, for all intents and purposes, the one saving grace the DCEU had going for it before he came along.
    Then again, this is the same guy who didn't want a Nova movie in the MCU for his own petty reasons when he did Guardians of the Galaxy; at least that had the advantage of never getting anywhere past an idea in someone's head rather than leaving the (costly) remainder flounder and flop.

    Henry Cavill is the CLOSEST you are going to get to Christopher Reeve as Superman. He was utterly PERFECT for the role and everyone loved him to the point where he alone could put butts in seats.
    Michael Keaton as Batman is another godsend. Gal Godot was an amazing Wonder Woman (even if her movies were written poorly). Ben Affleck (as much as I dislike the guy personally) was a solid Batman too. I even liked Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and I never cared for Supergirl before. They even had The Rock as Black Adam, which might not make a successful lead character, but could make a great supporting character.
    They literally had the world by the balls in terms of casting and they pissed it all away with this mess. This movie is like the scene where Bob Saget goes on about how there's "shit everywhere."
