It's his way of adding weight. As his gotten older the difference in his chest and mix voice has become more dramatic resulting in a far thinner and higher sounding voice. There's a recent clip somewhere of him singing imaginary enemy and you'll see what I mean
I’ve noticed he’s been doing that lately haha, it also seems he’s been into singing in a lower register (not depicted here) but personally I like his smooth, almost-nay-very feminine sound best!
@@Azuraii He's definitely screaming. These aren't pitched vocals on the high notes, just pure vocal fry. You CAN sing with heavy vocal fry, to the point that some may call it pitched screaming (see Sleepwalking by Bring Me), but this ain't it. His register has just naturally gone lower over the years and he can't hit those high notes without either going into full fry or falsetto. I'm a huge fan of Anthony, of course. He's without a doubt been my main vocal inspiration since I heard him, but I'm not sure why he doesn't play stuff like this a couple of steps down. For me, the screams kill the sense of sensitivity and vulnerability the song had before. t. hobby singer (6 years-ish exp.) and long time Anthony/Circa/TSoAF/Saosin fan.

I mean he’s been a professional touring musician for over 20 years now and his style is also grating on the vocal chords. That plus the smoking and drug use for sure did damage to his voice. When I’ve seen Circa live in recent years he sounded great though. I’ve seen some rough videos online but in person he’s always sounded great and I’ve seen them 5 times lol

he's not screaming, he's just singing in a harsher tone :p. He doesn't do legit screams on the acoustic performances.
