haha i was the same way in my first rental! i will say, i've never anchored my bookshelves to the wall and have yet to have them topple on to me
i’m so paranoid, i read that lease agreement like a lawyer looking for loopholes 🤦🏻♀️ i was gonna not anchor them, but then jake ran right into it and ginger started climbing, so i was too paranoid 😂
When we had a 7.0 earthquake none of the bookcases in our house toppled. But I’m definitely a “load them heavy at the bottom” kind of gal which helps ease the anxiety that it *could* happen.
I’ve never anchored mine either and even with four kids under 8 in the house, they’ve never so much as wobbled. Not that they’d try to climb them because they know not to go near my books with their sticky fingers or fear the Wrath Of Mum™️
Adrian Koch I live in California so I should def have mine bolted to the wall but same we had a 7 earthquake and I survived. Thank god the shelves didn’t fall and crush me. I will say mine out a little more light weight bc they’re made of glass and metal.
I live in California. We kinda have to have them anchored because of earthquakes. Our landlords have always just said to patch the holes when you leave.

There's just something about a lot of books being put on a shelf without having gaps that makes me calmed and satisfied
Little bits of folded cardboard/paper tucked under the front to ever so slightly tilt the shelf backwards can help stabilise bookcases as well, if you're worried in the future!

My mom had bookshelves stuffed with books my whole childhood, none of them ever toppled over, but they themselves were heavy and all the heaviest books were always on the bottom.

i think my favorite part about reorganization videos is always “okay what do i display” and then playing with books facing out, stacking them, etc! loooved watching this!

LISTEN. My parents divorced when I was like 7. It was Monday and Tuesday at my Dads, Wednesday and Thursday at my Moms, Friday to Saturday evening at my Dads, and then Saturday evening and all day Sunday at my Moms. I did that for TEN years because of the guilt from being separated from one parent for too long, plus I hate change. You do what you gotta do. LOL
My kids dad and I did this for awhile too...at the time we lived all of 10 minutes apart so if anything was ever forgotten we could easily run it to the other.
This is literally almost my exact schedule except they switch of on weekends. For some reason this makes me want to cry because I’ve never had someone relate to me in this way with divorced parents lol
Just be mindful of how the shelves aren’t attached and you’ll be fine... unless you secretly love hanging off your shelves or climbing them like ladders lol.

Fantasy is definitely also my most owned genre, so your Fantasy books covering half the room is a biiig mood. The shelves turned out so nice, I love it 😭😍
I'm super late, but for anyone worried about bookshelves falling over when not attached to walls, get shims! They are usually diagonal pieces of wood and you stick them under the bookshelf so the bookshelf leans back towards the wall. You can find them lots of places, but I usually get them at Lowe's or Home Depot. I've never attached my bookshelves to the walls and the shims have always kept them stable!

I have the same bookcases and haven’t fastened them to the wall and all my hardbacks are on top and paperbacks on the bottom. I’ve had no issues. Love your shelves. They’re so pretty. I try to make mine look cute but never works out well I need to buy more cute book covers 😂

i honestly can't remember off the top of my head, but it was one of the shops that creates recovered designs for a lot of series! i think it may be fox & wit?
This is my 3rd time watching this video, because having this many shelves and this much space to put books is my absolute dream lol. I don’t even have space for one bookshelf so all of my books just go in the closet which is a travesty. Hopefully one day I can have enough room to display all my books in a way they can be fully appreciated!

I’ve got the same set up and none of mine are anchored the wall just bracketed to each other on the top and I don’t have any problems! I even have my Cassandra Clare books (3 shelves) and other heavy books on the top and I don’t have any problems with the weight.

Most landlords are pretty chill about curtains. Especially if you leave the rod behind for the next person. Cuz it ups their “value” in the eye of a renter since the renter now won’t have to do it themselves? It’s weird. But if you don’t want to take the risk there’s spring loaded rods you can get that’ll work.
