The sheer fact that you are willing to tackle Jaco shows how determined you are at this. BTW, your right hand blows me away. Super accuracy!! Keep rockin'!
Thanks for posting this video. So many people see a talented person (musician, athlete, etc.) and think "How lucky they are to be so talented." They don't see the hard work needed to make that talent reality. It's super obvious that Ellen is talented. All those other struggling young musicians out there need to see that she has that talent because she puts in the hard work. Music rewards the steady hand. The true blessed part is the joy you all seem to find in the work/play/life. That's always the best, isn't it?
Ellen, you don’t select easy pieces to work out. You really challenge yourself with cool, complex bass lines. Your tenacity is impressive and I’m looking forward to hearing the end results of your efforts! Thank you for sharing this snippet of your process with us! 🎶🎵🎶
“we’re not worthy, we’re not worthy”,,,, Ellen…you are one very impressive intriguing female. You have made “yourself”. I once tried to just learn a riff from Jaco; went crazy not for me. But you, I have been following you for over a year and can not think of the million plus words that describe you. Keep going your way you paint a beautiful future for yourself. Proud of you.
I love watching you practice. It’s always a good thing to see young kids like yourself pursuing a path in music and progressing the way you are. Never stop. You are precious and we love watching you grow. ❤❤
As a guitarist of nearly 20 years, I recently picked up the bass for fun.... And I'm terrible at it. Watching this little girl absolutely crush me in skill is surprisingly humbling. It gives me even more inspiration to practice harder.
This is why everyone likes you so much, you never do the job half way, for you it's all about hitting it 100%, it's a joy to see you practice and just make it work in the end, keep going your formidable work.👍
Way to go girl - you;re continuing to grow in soo many ways - people who don't play don't understand how hard it is - rule #1 - if you can play it slow you WILL learn to play it as fast as you want to - thanks for the continued inspiration JJ
Just amazing how talented she is at such a young age. I didn’t even start playing til I was about 12 and I wouldn’t have been even have been able to attempt a Jaco song back then. Heck I hadn’t even heard of him at that point. I was still fumbling around on things like smells like teen spirit at that age.
A long time music teacher once told me that hard work is necessary for all musicians to excel but the truly great ones, such as Ellen obviously, have a "gift".
Ellen should be on 2 posters..One for adorable and the other for determined. I have never seen anyone at any age want to perfect her craft like she does. I hope I will be around when she celebrates decades as the top performing bass player. I mean this.
@@greer2402 About 100% of great players have done that, no matter what instrument. There might be a few super talented, who never had to practice with 100% dedication, but they are rare. But I really love watching how much Ellen wants this herself, and how happy she is when she gets things right. Don't ever lose that.
Ellen knows practice makes Perfect !! Nice job Ellen ! And its nice to hear you speak Armenian at home. I wish i had taken a foreign language in school !
This girl is ABSOLUTELY amazing on a Bass guitar! Seeing her smiling while she plays show's how passionate she is abt what does for her fans! Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA. #ELLENPRODIGY
Incredible video ELLEN. Always a pleasure seeing that beautiful smile. You are an inspiration to a lot of people. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Much love. Hugs
See, now daddy just have to sit on the side and giggle because he knows you are in charge. You were my inspiration and motivation and you continue to be. Love from the Netherlands.
Thank you Ellen! I'm a sixty year old has been bass player, and you have motivated me to pick it up again and LEARN! I've made a challenge to myself to learn any song you post! Never thought I could play Jaco lines but I'm at about a week and thanks to you I pretty much have it... just need to speed it up now. Thank you and God Bless! Keep on rocking kiddo, you're going places!😊
I came onto playing bass only for a little while in my twenties, I've played guitar for over 50 years and have always had a good appreciation for a good bass line -- as befits someone who grew up while James Jamerson was still helping to put the Funk in the Brothers. One album that always stood out to me for its innovative bass playing seems more than a little unlikely -- "What Cha' Gonna Do for Me" by Chaka Khan. My particular recommendation is the song "I Know You, I Live You." Mr. Anthony Jackson must really have been feeling it on that cut. Full Disclosure: If I recall correctly, Mr. Jackson is credited with playing something called a "contrabass" on that song and others. This album was released in 1981, so there was little to no information of this nature available anywhere that I could get to. The Internet was just getting started at that point and was almost entirely text-based, which meant typing commands on your keyboard rather than pointing at things and then pressing a button. A quick search today turned up a photo of an Anthony Jackson signature electric contrabass guitar, which has 6 strings. If you decide to try to learn this tune but find 4 strings too limiting, you might try using an octave divider or a Whammy pedal set to drop your bass' pitch one octave. Mr. Jackson uses the extra range on that instrument to get DOWN!
Geez Ellen! That's a really difficult song on bass! I'm not sure I would even attempt it for fear of quitting 'cause it's too hard! You just never stop getting better! You go girl!
It’s the ghost notes that get you. They don’t just go ‘Pp’, they last a specific length of time and if you play them too short or too long the piece doesn’t swing. Jaco Pastorius is a lifetime’s work, a labour of love.
Hi Ellen and Hovak It was good to meet you both yesterday and to see you perform live, Ellen. Great job! The success you two have is an inspiration to me. Keep doing your thing, we just subscribed. -Dean and Sophia (the people who were sitting next to you at Sixx Gun, lol)
Ellen es supertalentosa y supersimpática. Es una niña excepcional y adorable. Espero y deseo que tenga el futuro brillante que merece. Por cierto, su papá también es excepcional. Son un gran equipo. Mis felicitaciones a los dos y... all the best for the future!
Brave stuff. That’s what it’s like when you’re figuring out the transitions. When you crack it, it’s funny because music is like that, how does he go from here to here, when you understand it’s so obvious you laugh!
I've been seen all the videos of your channel in less that one week!!!! Im waiting anxiously to see new videos of you and that doesn’t happened to me with any youtube channel since YEARS ago. You are an INCREDIBLE bass player and the way you enjoy learning and playing always with that smile (even on mistakes. You are amazing) makes me wanna play trying to have that much fun that you are having (which is veeery hard to do for me but i will keep trying hehe) Keep doing that great work in that fun way! Always keep that big smile while learning and playing and you will be great! Greetings from Argentina 😊 P.S: I'm 31 years old and im making music since a very young age too, And is hard to keep me motivated and have fun with it. But it's like Victor Wooten said: You with that fun you are having, are making us adults to remember that music has to be fun. That is named PLAYING music, not working music. Ellen is truly a remarkable young lady and musician. I do hope her parents are also letting her enjoy all the other outside extracurricular activities with friendships, and school work, that a young lady her age needs to grow in mind and spirit as a full rounded individual. God Bless - keep up the good work! 🎸🕊️👍🏻

I think that's the first time I have seen you be face a challenge on camera lol usually you have already mastered it 😂 it's good to see you working at something new, new musicians will see someone as good as you are having to put in work and having fun with it and it will inspire them!
Greetings from Orlando O’ Town, Florida Ellen 🎸 I’ve been digging (and sharing) your remarkable clips for a while, I’m a huge Jaco fan since his first appearance on Weather Reports tribute to Florida native Julius ‘Cannonball’ Adderly. You are most certainly destined for great things, your talent is as far removed from your age as the Horsehead Nebula is from my front door!! Godspeed Ellen
Ellen, That is a really difficult bass line but I have no doubt you will get it and it will make a cool video I think you like a challenge and you will nail it

Allen, do you have your siblings and we want to see your loving mother as well, please! In your next Q&A hoping that you will bring my question if you don't mind 😊 and could you please tell us your height, weight and shoe number you are wearing? Love from northeast, India❤❤❤

😮 I'm speechless. Talk about upping your game.! This girl means business. 🤘
This young lady has more talent in her hairclip than I will ever have in my entire body!! You Go Girl!!!!🤘🤘
This is by far my favorite bass line to play on my bass❤

Amazing Ellen!! And thanks dad for sharing this journey
I can't think of a better way to start my day than with Ellen's smile and a bass jam. ❤️

It is so refreshing to see such dedication to perfecting your skill. Love it every time you post something new!
Jaco is looking down and smiling! 🙂❤
As a bass player, you inspire me to play better and to keep trying!❤❤❤

You just know she's gonna get it right! Keep it up Ellen, I may be 74, but I'm one of your many many fans here on YT!
Ellen - a gift from God. An amazingly shiny light. Love you!

Loving the tone of that bass line.
You are so inspiring thanks for the music ❤
Her shirt is adorable
Elf-child playin' bass, learning to groove. You've found your calling if you can smile like that untangling a line. Blessings.
What a task to take on!! Bravo Ellen!!
merci de nous faire partagé ces beaux moments

I love when you learn Jaco, especially the fretless jams. Gettin' Betta'.You go girl!!
Those ghost notes are what's throwing the pattern off, it's a feel Ellen...feel it and keep the metronome in your head to continue the phrase.
Every note is sacred.
I truly enjoy seeing how much you enjoy playing. I also love the little side glances to Dad. You are a delight! 😁👍🏼
Such skill and talent. Ellen, you do such a great job.
loving the playful nod to the Jaco loop @ 2:00
Woodshedding is how you do it! Getting better every day, Ellen! 🎶
It was
breathtaking.😄
Jaco is smiling down on you, Ellen. Now you need to check it out on a fretless bass! 😊
Jaco played this song on a fretted bass.
@@s7a7i0d Oh really! I didn't know that. Thank you for enlightening me. (Still, Ellen, a fretless bass is a GAS! 😊)
Btw, did anyone find out what the cool fretless bass is, the one she plays in other videos?
Into Jaco already?? You’re incredible Ellen! Loved that modulation. Modulating upward is fun!

Ellen adding a touch of Jaco’s looping soloes, she’s a sponge this girl. I think she was quoting from the Joni Mitchell shows.
