  • Honeycomb “bumblebeanie” machine knitting hat tutorial using the LK 150 knitting machine or the Brother KX 350 knitting machine.
    In this video I show all the steps to machine knit a honeycomb two-color tuck pattern hat on a mid-gauge knitting machine. I also show how to knit in some little bee charms which are a fun accent to the hat. This project is a bit more advanced than the previous hat patterns, but it builds on some of the skills I showed in my beginner playlist.

    In this video I use Plymouth Select DK Merino Superwash yarn in the colors NATURAL and SUNSHINE. You can use any colors you prefer but it works best with two colors that contrast well. This yarn is available online or at many local yarn stores.

      Yes, it definitely does. I'm not sure if you've seen my two recent videos on the Needle Beetle; if not, take a look. It really comes in handy for Fair Isle which is not easy to mark out on the bed as the tuck stitch pattern in this video is.

    • @AnnaHaferman

      Try with less stitches cast on and fewer rows. Unfortunately, to get the pattern to match up you would need to have eight fewer stitches which may make a very small hat.

    Anna thank you for a really good machine knitting instructional video. Please excuse me for asking this question publicly but I don’t know how to ask privately. There is a link that says ‘view transcript’ and when I select that link it only shows about 37 seconds of your presentation. The question is is this broken/ malfunctioning? I know that videos are worth a million words but for me reviewing something in transcript is priceless. Thank you again.

      @AnnaHaferman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I started editing that and never finished it. I didn't realize it was published. I switched it so it has the auto-generated transcript.

    For me it's still a mystery how the honeycomb pattern was formed from a diamond tuck pattern on the paper, but I like the result and the tutorial itself - each step of knitting is very well explained. Thank you.

    Hello Anna, thank you for the videos. Very helpful. I'm wondering if this would be possible on the LK100. I just received it and started knitting squares. Hopefully these squares will create a sweater eventually. I also have a SK280, but did not use it of course. 🤭☺ Very intimidating. Have a good day and keep knitting. Evelyne

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can do it. The LK 100 doesn't have hold levers (Russell levers) but if you push the needles to holding position it knows to hold those needles. You would have to push them back to upper working position in order for them to knit off. It might be harder to change colors because of the yarn feeder on that model. (I don't have one, so I'm not exactly sure how easy it would be.)
      If you are new to machine knitting, I don't recommend this as a first project. Start with something straightforward and work your way up. Or, just jump in with a sample and see how it goes.

    I MAY HAVE ALREADY PUT THIS HINT IN ==== I WOULD USE A LONGER LENGTH OF MAIN YARN TO PULL IN TOP, NOTE-- THREAD YOUR NEEDLE WITH YARN ON THE DOUBLE SO THAT YOU CAN REMOVE IT WITHOUT CUTTING THE YARN. ( THREAD THE FOLDED END OF YARN)

    Because of your fantastic tutorials, I’d like to try machine knitting! Can the LK150 make the horizontal stitches on your brim, tighter (closer together)? Or would I have to buy a different machine to accomplish this? Hope my question makes sense. Thank you!

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you mean can you make traditional ribbing on the machine and the answer is yes, but it involves latching up every other stitch. There are other knitting machines with ribbers that will do this automatically but the LK 150 does not have a ribber. I don't have a video on how to latch up ribbing, but it's fairly easy to do. It takes more time than "mock rib" which is what I showed in this video.

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But you should totally try machine knitting. It's really fun to do.

    How do you know how the pattern will appear on the right side? I’m
    Trying to learn how to design patterns but I’m just a beginner.

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found this pattern in an old stitch pattern book, so I knew how it would look. Many of the old machine knitting stitch pattern books are available for free download at machineknittingetc.com.
      It is possible to design these mosaic patterns. The technique is described in a book called Mosaic Floatless Fair-Isle by Kathleen Kinder. I will warn you that it's complicated and not really a beginning technique but it's definitely interesting and something that I hope to do one day also!

    I was wondering can you do that with the needle Beetle?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be difficult to do with the Needle Beetle because you have to select stitches and knit some stitches back from hold in the same row. There is a way to make the Beetle select to position C, but you would still have to push the ones out to hold back, so I don’t think it would save much time.

    What stitch gauge does this knit up to?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure. I used a DK weight yarn. If you use a DK yarn (#3 US) and the tension I used in the video (I can't remember what I used; I would have to re-watch the video.) you should get similar results. Thanks for watching!

    • @lizzieburgess674
      @lizzieburgess674 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnnaHaferman Unfortunately your settings have no relevance to my machine, which is not an LK-150. Stitch gauge is so useful for those of us with different machines, and those of us in places where the classification and choice of yarns is very different to yours. Then we can work out if we can, and how to, get a similar result to yours - which is lovely!

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lizzieburgess674 You could always do a swatch of the pattern, measure your gauge and your head, and calculate how many stitches you need to start with. You need a multiple of eight plus two stitches in order for the pattern to match up along the seam. If you are using a standard gauge machine you will need more stitches, a bulky machine you will need less.
