And when the speakers would brutally answer them with logic and facts, students walk away without finishing the speakers’ statement. And then they will say Knowles, Shapiro are wrong. Sigh. Do what your slave master tells you, particularly the nasty ones? Something along those lines.

    • @shawnyfin

      @@hamster4618 ...the bible does in fact see slavery in a negative light, but the authors are also aware that slavery exists and in making the point of reverent fear of God. That's what is so hard for so many to understand about the context therein - God supercedes slave and master, rich and poor, and to love Him regardless makes you better for it, ESPECIALLY if you're in a shit position of being slave. THAT is what that means. Not, "Ok, so like, slaves are ok. We're cool with that."

      @krs2711 5 ปีที่แล้ว +86

      mweber555, while I agree with your sentiment, you've missed the mark a little bit. Let me explain. I disagree that the student is using "today's morals". The morals of the Judeo-Christian worldview existed well before today. In fact, they existed in Columbus' day. Columbus found himself in a moral conundrum, as do many, many politicians, today. Columbus did what he could _For His Time_ to remain just and true to these transcendent morals and yet still embark on a great voyage. This student is the epitome of pampered and privileged and Leftist indoctrination. He's never faced a Hard decision a day in his Life. He's not judging yesterday based on morals of today. Rather he's judging yesterday from the _same_ universally moral perspective or worldview, BUT from a place of extreme comfort and excess. This student's place in history is utterly incomparable to that of ANY time in history. How FOOLISH of him to sit in a comfortable, temperature controlled classroom and pass _judgement_ on the people of history - FROM this perspective!! It's kind of similar to a person talking about a horrific crime they were NOT a part of, but asserting they'd have done X or Y _had_ they been involved. The person DOESN'T know what they'd "have done" as they WEREN'T involved. It's very, very easy to pass judgement from a place of comfort and non-consequence. It's far, far, FAR different being an _active_ player in the annals of history, trying to accomplish something and at the same time, wanting to stay true to your moral conscience.

      Honestly, I think the same way. I see Americans talk about slavery, like it was an a concept exclusive to America. Yeah, America practiced slavery, so did every known nation of the world. I'm from Nigeria and we also practised slavery. I, as a person come from a line of people who owned and mistreated slaves (I'm in no way justifying slavery, it is wrong). Even today, a lot of household in Nigeria practise a system of having a housemaid. Which in reality is a form of modern slavery. Just that the maids are not gagged and chained. So, slavery is not a preserve of the white man. It's something embedded in human history. Even those blacks who were sold into slavery, a whole lot of them were sold to the white man by their fellow blacks.
      However, what is unique about America is that it's the country that fought a civil war to end slavery. I mean, a white president fought other white men, so that slavery (which majorly affects the blacks) will come to an end.
      Racism is also not an American concept. A lot of countries in Europe are also battling racism.
      Yes, your leaders have flaws. However, no one is praising them for the flaws. When I hear about Jefferson or Washjngton, what comes to my mind is not slave ownership or racism. What comes to mind is patriotism, fighting for what you believe is right. In fact, I did not hear or know about the flaws of these men until their detractors point them out.
      These men are your heroes, love them for the good that they've done. Be better and move your country forward. Not hate them and spit on their legacy.

And don’t act like the natives were so peaceful and just, they were slaughtering and scalping each other long before our ancestors came here. Incase you need a history lesson most of our ancestors fought and actually died alongside these natives. Most people act like we committed genocide and there are no longer any natives alive. These thoughts mostly come from ignorant brats who have no dose of reality. I grew up in New Mexico and Oklahoma, and there are MANY native people with roots to their ancestors and they honestly get better treatment and opportunities then most of my countryman. And this is coming from a veteran that served his country, and yet a native born American gets better benefits then myself because of their roots. Show me another country that does this.

      Don't feel bad. I clicked on this specifically because I didn't have a real answer to Columbus. The reframing to todays standards and the dismissal of true bravery is an excellent answer.

    I would really like to give that kid an astrolabe and the navigation instruments of that day and watch him try the same voyage! Good luck!!!

      That idiot could't sail a boat in the bathtub. I'm embarrassed for Notre Dame, such a great school, or it was...

    Applying today's moral and ethical standards to people that lived 500 years ago is ridiculous.

      Leftists don't care about him bringing back slaves; it's just a red herring. They only bring it up because they want to destroy the "white patriarchy," and this is the easiest tactic to bring Columbus down with.

    If that kid was born in the 1400's he wouldn't know or do better than Columbus .

      Not everyone in the 1400s was from Italy so it a random guess whether anyone would be as messed up as him.

    Just because he says all that from his platform does not make him right.
