You are right, but then after dxe7, Kd7, f6, black can only move their king and if they stop defending the promotion square, white gets a queen and if they keep protecting the promotion square, white can bring their king and force the black king off the defence of the promotion square. It's a bit sad this line wasn't shown in the video.
I’ve always wondered why people underpromote to rooks or bishops (knights make sense because of their odd move style) but this makes sense now. Very cool!
i need more content like this very enjoyable i figured out most of these but still the fact that one move for white stops black completely is fascinating to me
On the first puzzle, what happens if instead of taking with the e7 pawn, you follow white's pawn back with your king to c6. It seems to me, that you avoid the initial problem altogether. Now, I'm sure there's probably still some way to force a zugzwang in there with some combination, but I can't find it.
White will take the e7 pawn and then your king on c6 will need to move to d7 to stop the promotion. White then moves the f pawn forward to defend the e7 pawn and now blacks king is stuck cause it can’t attack the pawn chain without letting the pawn promote. White then just brings its king into the action
I think after king to c6 you capture on e7. The king moves to d7 to stop the promotion. Then f6 to defend the forward pawn. The black king is now stuck moving back and forth between d7 and e8 until you bring your own king up.
#5 was crazy!! At first, I didn't even register Black's own threat of Qg3# and didn't understand why most of the checks other than Nxf1+ didn't work, but once I did recognize the threat of Qg3# I still couldn't get it because of how difficult Nd5+ was to calculate. After Nd5+, I saw e3 Qf4 Qxf4 Qxf4 Nxf4 Bg2 Nxe2# but also saw e3 Qf4 Qg3+ Qxg3 hxg3 Nf4 g2 and thought it was no good because I missed Nxh3# with the only alternative being Nxe2+ Bxe2 stalemate, so I didn't think Nd5+ was correct for that reason. Then I watch the video and realize I didn't even consider Black responding to Qf4 with Bg2, so I didn't calculate any of that part at all. Just effing insane that one! 😮😮😮😮
Solved puzzles 1 and 2 fairly quickly. Puzzle 3 I did succeed at winning but I went to the right instead and that way takes much longer. I knew that there was some stalemate trap in puzzle 4 but for the life of me I could not find Rg3 after e7. Puzzle 5 was a difficult one, I could see some of the moves and the ideas but I couldn't find the line. I didn't even know where to start with puzzle 6. Fun video even if I only solved 2 and a half puzzles.
Thumbnail puzzle is deceptively easy. d6, exd6, e6, fxe6, then Freddy will have his coronation ceremony in 3 moves. Also I’m pretty sure this puzzle was in Capablancas book.
The first one was easy, I had the right idea after just a second. Yesterday I had a situation and thought that it hast to end in a draw, but stockfish found a solution which I never would have been able to find. The last one really was amazing, but difficult to imagine that a situation like that could arise in a real game.
You have to capture on e7, then defend with f6. This also blocks the f7 pawns' advance. After kd7 no capture can be made. If ke6 happens then white queens with check. The king is stuck defending against the promotion which allows white kig to come in.
One thing you're not addressing about the first puzzle: what if black moves the king instead of taking? Even if white then takes the pawn, the king can keep up.
Sure the Black King can "Stop" that Pawn from promoting, the problem is that before it can be taken it's going to be defended by the f Pawn and that holds until the White King comes over to ensure the promotion. 😊
who could see all those sacrifices to # with the knight?? UNBELIEVABLE... we're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy.. Click them slippers and repeat 3 times -- Sacrifice - Sacrifice - Sacrifice !! 😅
Its actually much easier. White simply takes the pawn dxe7 and black has to play kd7 else the pawn promotes and then white plays f6 and black has to shuffle the king until the white king moves to help
And he sacrificed....THE ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK THE OTHER ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK THE QUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN AND THE KING!!! Wait....
The king is wild!

GREAT sound effect there! Keep doing stuff like that!
I love that in chess you can recycle the same idea many times based on how your opponent moves
I really like puzzle 6. Puzzle 5 game me a headache.
If you get game 6 position in a game, you should hang it on a wall in your room with the brilliant move symbols
First puzzle black doesnt have to take the pawn, can just move his king to C6
You are right, but then after dxe7, Kd7, f6, black can only move their king and if they stop defending the promotion square, white gets a queen and if they keep protecting the promotion square, white can bring their king and force the black king off the defence of the promotion square. @@justsayin...1158 yes i know, i think its a line that needs to be analyzed when you solve the puzzle
@@justsayin...1158thanks I came here to find someone explaining it
Hey Nelson i just played the Colle system for the second time and caught his queen with the trap you showed! Thanks
So in a nutshell:
If you have the greater advantage, don’t promote to a queen. If your enemy has the advantage, Queen is the way to go.
After the second rook sac on #6, the checkmate was pretty clear. #5 is the one that blew my mind though. So complicated.
Just amazing!!! Thanks for sharing, Nelson!😮
The last one is like channeling your inner Martin.
17:41 "i won... but... for what cost"
I’ve always wondered why people underpromote to rooks or bishops (knights make sense because of their odd move style) but this makes sense now. Very cool!
Puzzle 1 and 2 were harder than the others.
Definitely smiling after the last one! 😄😄😄
Hi nelson, great video as always. How long will the course be open? I'm waiting for the end of the month to buy it
Why do you didn’t do it to the playlist: „Insane Chess Problems“?
best channel - most instructive for begineers intermediate level without relentless jokes like others
i need more content like this very enjoyable i figured out most of these but still the fact that one move for white stops black completely is fascinating to me
Puzzles 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 were easy and normal, but puzzle 5 was indeed very cool.
Stunning puzzles! You always surprise me and your presentation is fantastic. Thank you!

1st situation. On suggested pawn move black king can simply go c6. Yes, you still can win as white next, but your suggested solution doesn’t work.
Puzzle 6 after bg2 and knight f3 if qd4+ white qdd4 pawn takes and knight e2 is still a checkmate 😁
Finally some puzzles from Nelson!

I have a question. In the first puzzle what happens if on its first move black moves Kc6 instead of taking the white with its pawn?
*04:50*→King to a1 and look at what we have done!! That rhymed and the checkmate clock has chimed.
love chess puzzles but when do we get more chess adventures with our intrepid trio?
I didn't see the answer to the 5th one until you gave the first move, then I saw the rest.

You finally make a video about puzzles 🎉
Yup, I got those mostly. The first three certainly.
And I was smiling hard when you said that lol. Those the type of moves you get hype for
The last one is really amazing.
great puzzles. Thank you
I have a question, of couse this is just me curious.
So let say we delete stalemate from the game. How would that effect chess as a whole.
I was indeed smiling 😁
Found the 1st immediately
Those are definetely not the most insane Puzzles. But they are very understandable and interesting
Is this the position in a game of Hou Yifan? 15:28
Yes! More chess puzzles! It's my lucky day
I am really bad at chess, especially end games - but I have found the first puzzle to be very easy.
1st time ever seeing a double check.
The last 2 were brilliant!!!
Im surprised I actually saw the solution to the first puzzle since I’m only 800 lol but I love cool puzzles like these
In puzzle 5 after the wrong move Nxf1. Qc1+ Qd1 Qxd1# is mate
I loved 5 more than 6. Cool stuff
Thanks for another amazing video!
In puzzle #1, couldn’t black just respond with kc6?
then we play e6
@@UnknownOP11I think you meant e7.
E6 is just losing for white.
You have to capture on e7, then defend with f6. This also blocks the f7 pawns' advance. After kd7 no capture can be made. If ke6 happens then white queens with check. The king is stuck defending against the promotion which allows white kig to come in.
King*

Nelson both plays chess and excersizws for us
That last one was a doozie!!
0:43 how does white win if black doesn’t take back and plays kc6 instead?
the white pawn attacks b7 and the king can't keep up with it
@@feverdream11mThe king can keep up with it though how can it not also no pawn is attacking b7???
Out of interest - have you ever been forced to underpromote in a game to avoid a stalemate trap? If so, how common an occurence would it be?
I think pawn From f5 to f6 would also work
Nr. 6, wow! Amazing.
Thank you for making me smile.
10:00 This position would likely still be a draw because of perpetual check, but yeah you wouldn’t be able to win
Good ones
Last position was the easiest one, but sure very beautiful
Not even close it was the 3rd hardest lol
number 6 was at least most insane cause i could hear Gothamchess echoing "THE ROOOOOOK!" in the chess puzzle!
great puzzle video Nelson!
literally, cuz they added that in the video, but yea
puzzle1 wpawn to d6, bking to c6, bking takes wqueen in the end, or did i missed something
who could see all those sacrifices to # with the knight?? UNBELIEVABLE... we're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy.. Click them slippers and repeat 3 times -- Sacrifice - Sacrifice - Sacrifice !! 😅
I want a puzzle in which white has to sack ALL his pieces just to save the half point! 🤣
Nelson can you please play with levy
0:40 Also f6 works

Going to say Bishop to C6
I got puzzle one in a second or two. That one was pretty obvious...let's check out the rest...

I liked puzzle 5 & 6❤❤❤😊
There needs to be more chess puzzle videos. Not for us, but for you.
first one doesn't work because anyone with 150+ elo will see that
Ergh... played a game today... blundered queen. Needless to say- I lost.
2 bishops vs rook? Yea I would just take the draw, f learning how to convert
the first puzzle is wrong. While it is true the white move is d6 but black response is to not take but kc6, leading to a trickier win for white
Its actually much easier. White simply takes the pawn dxe7 and black has to play kd7 else the pawn promotes and then white plays f6 and black has to shuffle the king until the white king moves to help
GothamChess is amaizing!
First puzzle was insanely easy and basic
The first puzzle was honestly straightforward.
