    Love my Pertronix. Like you I bought the flame thrower coil. I also bought the Pertronix wires, only because I wanted it all to work 100%. Fired right up and It's been flawless for a couple years. I always wonder what the problem is with the people who can't seem to get it to work. I converted an old dual points Mallory; part of me wishes that I would have bought a new distributor. Still might one of these days

    Great videos. Thank you for sharing. I just bought me a project ‘35 Ford fordoor. Also working on making it a 12v conversion. Question??? How do I put the fan back on when I install the alternator? Or did you put in an electric fan? Can you please show a video on that. My alternator also sits in the front on top of the engine. Thank you

    Great video, very informative ! Question , I have a 42 Ford Super Deluxe running a six volt positive ground system. I want to convert it to 12 volts but it came with a new six volt Stromberg e-fire distributor. Is there a way to run the six volt distributor on 12 volts? Maybe by isolating the distributor from the 12 volt electrical system and using a resistor or a drop down transformer to bring the voltage from 12 volts to 6 volts.

    Converted to Pettronics on my 8BA and it ran great -- until it didn't.
    After about 5- 6 months, it quit on me on the road about a block from my house.
    Upon raising the hood, i saw a wisp of smoke in the distributor area.
    The Pertronivs was cooked for some reason.
    Convetted back to points and condenser and it's been fine for the last year.

    Pertronix always crap out on you in the dark when it's cold out. I tried 3 times, and each time, just after warranty, I had to have a tow truck get me and the wife home! She's had it with my hot rods. Yes, I had the right coil, and the correct wiring. Pertronix are crap! I'm down the parts and 850.00 in towing.

    Im in VA as well. Just bought a 47 Merc Coupe from an estate, just too nice to pass up & I don't know Fords at all. Couldn't figure out how to get TO the distributor. I have a small channel, more for posterity, than anything. I will figure it out. No fire, yet. Must I remove the radiator/fan like you did?

    Does a 1942 ford 6 cylinder g motor 6 volt positive ground take a 1.5 ohm coil or a 6 ohm coil. Also how do you adjust timing on the old crab distributor. I:37 p.m.

    When using the Pertronix , what plug wires are recommended. I’ve seen that you shouldn’t use solid core wires, funny that no body advertises the wires for running the Pertronix system.

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Will, hopefully the fan isn’t on the crank pulley, is yours on the generator or is it on its own bracket? Either way I think yours should be bolted to the intake, there should be one long bolt on the end of the intake to take off, just make sure to disconnect the battery

    • @will-Rynerson
      @will-Rynerson ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WiredCustomsSpeedShop yes the pulley that’s connected to the the crankshaft and not to the generator. The pulley to the generators out of the way. It’s the one right in front of that that connects to the fan.

      Ok Zac, next question, the Protronix pro billet distributor says must use .6 ohm coil. The coil I received is the .5 from vintage auto garage. Should I get the .6?

    • @will-Rynerson
      @will-Rynerson ปีที่แล้ว

      Called Vintage Care Garage they said .5 is fine. That’s what they use for all the conversions. I do have another question is the bottom pulley tring to get that puppy back on and it seems like it’s hitting something. Do I need to take it out of gear and let it spin to fully go into the shaft?

    I hate points. I've done Pertronix and Crane conversions but best conversion was just going to wrecking yard and stripping 80s/90s distributors for a pickup and reluctor ring. Machined reluctor to press over my distributor shaft lobes. Easy $10 electric ignition conversion with robust OEM parts.
