The original comics were meant as a spoof of the gritty atmosphere the big cape comics were going through at the time, right? The turtles can get serious, of course, but I think it should be generally self-aware of how silly this whole premise is.
Now I feel stupid for not mentioning that. Like how did I forget that spoof aspect of it I've mentioned it being a DareDevil parody before. I kinda expect it to look like that Gritty Power/Rangers fan film intended to mock reboots.

arthur churro After writing my earlier comment I got this insane idea for a live action TMNT miniseries, wherein it’s one season that’s made to a spoof of the Netflix Daredevil/Defenders shows complete with hallway fights seemingly done in one take and having Splinter doing the ptsd character arc Jessica Jones had with the Purple Man, only his Purple Man would be The Rat King. With a few pot shots thrown at Matt Damon Daredevil movie and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City just to let some of the less pop savvy viewers in on the joke.
Honestly we could use a semi gritty reboot, all the designers need to remember is that the Turtles don't need to be ugly realistic. Just use Detective Pikachu as an example of how to bring cartoons into the real world.

Personally would've really liked the costumes with CGI enhancements concept - I feel that idea isn't used enough in Hollywood nowadays. I mean, imagine if the Power Rangers movie went back to its roots and did that style. I think a style like that has a lot of untapped potential give the right materials.

And the older people from that time feel nostalgic. THEN there's the nostalgia for rremembering the time you were being nostalgic. Enjoying looking back.

Not sure how I’d feel about a dark gritty reboot of the Turtles. I get that it’s closer to the source material but a lot of people forget that the source material was intended as a Daredevil parody. I get that TMNT itself really suffers from a Death of the Author situation, but playing what was initially a parody as straight just feels a little bit weird.
you're using parody wrong in the context of the comics. If you've seen the comics...it's ONLY a parody in the sense that they are turtles. That's where the parody stops. It's just the idea that TURTLES become ninja...and that's funny. Cause...turtles. And this rat, right? It's the master. Some sewer rat. Some.......ooze...makes them mutate. Let's say it came off that same truck that blinded Daredevil. And that's it. Throughout the rest of the series and side stories..they were just as much as dark gritty and hero/anti hero as others. It wasn't like Deadpool that just was silly. A parody of powers...and he knows it. They had really entertaining "real" adventures in their own right. So..yes, they could have a great reboot. It's why the first live action is so loved. It blended "realism" with the absurdity of them being turtles..and that's what the comics were...albeit a LOT more gruesome

It wasn't a starting that made fun of heroes. It was just a "what if". But the story itself is what it is. Dark and within a world. Yea..instead of The Hand, you have The Foot. The big bad is called, Shredder. so on. But doesn't change that the story is a good story and not just random comedy..which when someone uses the term "parody" is what you think of. It was a good "dark" story that could definitely be made into a great "dark" movie

I would have killed for a darker TMNT cartoon maybe on Netflix i' don't know but after Nickelodeon let Netflix stream their specials (Invader Zim which was EPIC AF and also Rocko's Modern Life with the addition of Nick & Net's collaboration on Pinky Malinky) I can only see a bright future from here. And also if does the show got made eventually get Genndy Tartakovsky on board and then you got yourself a masterpiece in the making.

The '03 show is was a really good way of combining the dark and grittiness of the comics with the light hearted and goofy nature of the previous Turtle shows and movies.

There's an animated movie about _an_ ark that I happen to own, but the dvd is extremely old and I can't reproduce it. I think the movie was made in a Spanish-speaking country. It's about an elderly couple (who are zookeepers), a boy and a girl who get stranded in a barn which they use as an ark after a flooding occurs. I don't remember a lot about the film, just some stuff that happens, like the characters only having fries to eat (which annoys the carnibores, like a lion), the kids talking about ladybugs having sex ("haciendo el amor") and a turtle without one arm who results to be the villian of the movie. The movie exists (I keep it in my dvd case of Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor, which is unwatchable as well), yet the internet seems to have no record of this movie; the dvd only has "El Arca" (The Ark) written on it. It's not that thing Saberspank reviewed.
I liked the old mirage Ninja Turtle comics. The whole point of them and the Turtles in the first place was to parody gritty 90's comics (mainly Frank Millers Daredevil and Batman books) and most of the comedy came from these goofy looking characters taking things so seriously and killing people so gruesomely. I think if a gritty Ninja Turtles movie had the right director and writer, it would actually be really good.
Is Rise any good? It really confuses me I have heard from fans that it sucks and is not what they want. But I have also heard that it has the best animation in the series and is at least worth it for that. But I have heard from casual watchers that it genuinely has a good story. This show is so polarizing, it boggles me how a show can be so loved and hated at the exact same time.
Alex Horbacz 2018 is decent. it certainly has a load more filler than 2012 did in its first season and shredder doesn’t even get mentioned until (maybe a little more than) halfway into the first season of 2018. lengthy explanation below! the animation is very nice! character design is okay, it definitely could be worse but my only issue is the fact that they made the turtles all different species; it kinda kills the “they’re brothers” thing. in past incarnations they all at least look believably related. the story is alright. it’s definitely more filler-based but it’s probably to get used to the characters. the extended 22 minute long episodes though are usually plot-focused. i think. other than that it focuses on one or two (or all) of the turtles and sometimes a stray april or splinter episode here and there. the characterizations are okay? imo mikey and leo are the same character. raph is the protector and donnie is..... oh man don’t get me started on 2018 donnie- (he’s sarcastic 90% of the time which is good but on the other hand sometimes it feels like he doesn’t care about his brothers and their feelings and that’s like. yikes.) splinter..... i do not like. he’s supposed to be the one who keeps the guys on their toes and ready to fight for their lives and 2018 splinter is often depicted as lazy and is rarely ever seen doing ninjitsu. he does it a few times in one of the specials (i think? i might be wrong but) and i don’t recall him ever imparting wisdom to them. april is really good. i like her character a lot! the foot and baron draxum (idk how to spell that) are entertaining at least and are a good fill-in for whenever shredder returns (he’s like a deadass demon in this one, i won’t explain more bc i don’t wanna spoil stuff). my interactions with the fanbase for 2018 have been mostly negative. they all hate on previous incarnations and claim their version is superior to all and is flawless. it’s kinda dumb lol (i know not all of the fans are like that but 80% of what i saw on twitter were bitching about how 2018 is the best and everything else sucks) 2012 is definitely better but i’m probably biased having grown up with it. i’ve rewatched it 4 times so i like to think i can say i know the show really well.

I wouldnt really want a dark and gritty reboot. Since the dark knight(which is a good trilogy and did dark batman good) people have tried to recreate the same effect with shows or franchises that need alot of finessing to get it right or simply dont fit the bill for a gritty reboot. Also I'm sick of dark and gritty stuff. Why does everything have to be serious? I came to media and movies for fun not overshadowed emotional issues and realistic design.
That Leo model at 1:20 actually looks very good! Like wow, ad some swords and a couple of more stuff and it be perfect! Don't know why they didn't go with that design at least and go back to the men in suits wearing days... Maybe one day though.
Ive never herd of this one but interesting video nonetheless. Side note, honestly, I wish the 2014 movie kept the original Shredder actor. The G1 Turtles fans are never satisfied as proven by the threats they were sending the 2003 writers so it really wasn’t worth trying to satisfy them.

Speed Racer was a very underrated movie in my opinion.
It was weird and corny, but then so was the actual cartoon. Most importantly, though, it was a ton of fun to watch!

I would have killed for a darker TMNT cartoon maybe on Netflix i' don't know but after Nickelodeon let Netflix stream their specials (Invader Zim which was EPIC AF and also Rocko's Modern Life with the addition of Nick & Net's collaboration on Pinky Malinky) I can only see a bright future from here.
And also if does the show got made eventually get Genndy Tartakovsky on board and then you got yourself a masterpiece in the making.

There's an animated movie about _an_ ark that I happen to own, but the dvd is extremely old and I can't reproduce it. I think the movie was made in a Spanish-speaking country.
It's about an elderly couple (who are zookeepers), a boy and a girl who get stranded in a barn which they use as an ark after a flooding occurs. I don't remember a lot about the film, just some stuff that happens, like the characters only having fries to eat (which annoys the carnibores, like a lion), the kids talking about ladybugs having sex ("haciendo el amor") and a turtle without one arm who results to be the villian of the movie.
The movie exists (I keep it in my dvd case of Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor, which is unwatchable as well), yet the internet seems to have no record of this movie; the dvd only has "El Arca" (The Ark) written on it. It's not that thing Saberspank reviewed.
I liked the old mirage Ninja Turtle comics. The whole point of them and the Turtles in the first place was to parody gritty 90's comics (mainly Frank Millers Daredevil and Batman books) and most of the comedy came from these goofy looking characters taking things so seriously and killing people so gruesomely. I think if a gritty Ninja Turtles movie had the right director and writer, it would actually be really good.
Is Rise any good?
It really confuses me I have heard from fans that it sucks and is not what they want. But I have also heard that it has the best animation in the series and is at least worth it for that.
But I have heard from casual watchers that it genuinely has a good story.
This show is so polarizing, it boggles me how a show can be so loved and hated at the exact same time.

The fans of the older cartoon always dont like the new one. 03 fans hated 2012 and 2012 fans hated rise, you get the idea
Alex Horbacz 2018 is decent. it certainly has a load more filler than 2012 did in its first season and shredder doesn’t even get mentioned until (maybe a little more than) halfway into the first season of 2018.

the animation is very nice! character design is okay, it definitely could be worse but my only issue is the fact that they made the turtles all different species; it kinda kills the “they’re brothers” thing. in past incarnations they all at least look believably related.
the story is alright. it’s definitely more filler-based but it’s probably to get used to the characters. the extended 22 minute long episodes though are usually plot-focused. i think. other than that it focuses on one or two (or all) of the turtles and sometimes a stray april or splinter episode here and there.
the characterizations are okay? imo mikey and leo are the same character. raph is the protector and donnie is..... oh man don’t get me started on 2018 donnie- (he’s sarcastic 90% of the time which is good but on the other hand sometimes it feels like he doesn’t care about his brothers and their feelings and that’s like. yikes.) splinter..... i do not like. he’s supposed to be the one who keeps the guys on their toes and ready to fight for their lives and 2018 splinter is often depicted as lazy and is rarely ever seen doing ninjitsu. he does it a few times in one of the specials (i think? i might be wrong but) and i don’t recall him ever imparting wisdom to them. april is really good. i like her character a lot! the foot and baron draxum (idk how to spell that) are entertaining at least and are a good fill-in for whenever shredder returns (he’s like a deadass demon in this one, i won’t explain more bc i don’t wanna spoil stuff).
my interactions with the fanbase for 2018 have been mostly negative. they all hate on previous incarnations and claim their version is superior to all and is flawless. it’s kinda dumb lol (i know not all of the fans are like that but 80% of what i saw on twitter were bitching about how 2018 is the best and everything else sucks)
2012 is definitely better but i’m probably biased having grown up with it. i’ve rewatched it 4 times so i like to think i can say i know the show really well.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows was actually pretty good..unfortunately the first one was complete trash so no one went to see it.
I wouldnt really want a dark and gritty reboot. Since the dark knight(which is a good trilogy and did dark batman good) people have tried to recreate the same effect with shows or franchises that need alot of finessing to get it right or simply dont fit the bill for a gritty reboot.
Also I'm sick of dark and gritty stuff. Why does everything have to be serious? I came to media and movies for fun not overshadowed emotional issues and realistic design.
The "Bay" Turtles seemed pretty badass to me! My 9 year old brother and 18 year old self really enjoyed it!

Ive never herd of this one but interesting video nonetheless. Side note, honestly, I wish the 2014 movie kept the original Shredder actor. The G1 Turtles fans are never satisfied as proven by the threats they were sending the 2003 writers so it really wasn’t worth trying to satisfy them.
