When I was 7 years old my Dad went to a NYC auction and purchased an old NYFD truck and brought it to our farm on Long Island. I became the most popular kid in grade school. It still worked and we hade some of the old fire hose and a nozzle that we connected to it. I won all the water fights! I am 71 now and would do it again in a heartbeat!
I guess a lot of these trucks are older than they look. They appear to be in great shape, especially that 84; looks relatively new compared to the others.
Its sad to see these once proud rigs just sitting here without a job. Its nice to know that other departments will buy them, and whenever I'm in NYC and I see a rig with duct tape numbers, it kinda makes me happy that an old rig is getting some use again. I wish I could buy a couple of these things but they're probably way too much money. It would be cool to have a truck and squad rig
tjisatotalsellout YES, I HEAR YA MY FRIEND! BUT MOST OF THESE GET SECOND AND THIRD LIVES AND GO ON TO SERVE FOR DECADES AFTER! A LOT OF THEM STAY IN NEW YORK CITY AND SERVE AS SPARES FOR A VERY LONG TIME AS WELL! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING! ;o)
YES, I UNDERSTAND AND YOUR ARE 90% RIGHT BUT THE ONES INVOLVED IN BAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS OR MECHANICALLY FINISHED NEVER MAKE IT OUT THERE! ANYWAY, THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
Here in South Central PA quite a few fire departments have bought used FDNY rigs - mostly engines - over the years and refurbished them, especially during the 80s & 90s. Not sure if thats still cost effective versus buying a new rig. The IAFF labor agreement requires rigs to be replaced after so many years for safety purposes... I believe it's 10 yrs. Since FDNY is "the busiest fire department in the world", even well maintained, heavy duty apparatus, operated by professional takes a beating.
I love going to NYC. Seeing everything it has, One World Trade, Empire State Building, University of New York City (I think), Liberty Island. But what I come for mostly is to see New York's Bravest and their trucks. Love them so much.
Fire trucks go on for years due to the strong build and cost, they would prob be marked up and given a new life in a smaller city station across the states. Here in the uk old appliances are sold to other places or they get purchased for private work or even donated to third world countries.
WELL AARON, I AM SORRY I MISPOKE ON THIS VIDEO AND GAVE SOME PEOPLE THE WRONG IMPRESSION. I HAVE COMPLETELY CHANGED THE TITLE AND DESCRIPTION TO REFLECT THE SAME. THIS IS ACTUALLY A EXTRA FDNY STORAGE LOT AND "NOT A GRAVEYARD" AT ALL. THESE FIRE TRUCKS ARE HERE FOR STORAGE, REPAIRS AND DISTRIBUTION TO OTHER SOURCES FOR POSSIBLE FURTHER USE. THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND. ;o)
I bet ya most of these rigs were there on 9/11. It's a shame to see them sitting without a job. I know my town recently has been having problems with one of its rigs. And I hear from my friends dad who works on the department we may be getting one of these old rigs to replace it. Would be awesome to have an FDNY engine up in Maine
Boeingfan727 WELL, ACTUALLY MOST OF THESE WERE NOT AT 9/11 AND SOME OF THESE DO GET PUT BACK IN SERVICE AS SPARES. SOME ALSO GET SOLD AND/OR DONATED TO OTHER DEPARTMENTS AS I WAS TOLD! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
These trucks should be given to other fire departments that need them, I'm not american but I've seen some videos on youtube about fire departments is the US struggling to buy equipment. Maybe they could even be given or sold to other countries?
@CraZe ExoticZ they may be only 10 years old but they get ALOT of use and wear and tear. FDNY is one of if not the worlds busiest fire department. I dont think there has ever been a moment when any if their rigs were not on a call.
If i were little again you could keep my occupied for days by letting me run around that lot.....who the hell am i kidding, just watching this makes me want to run around that lot now, i wonder if theres any old equiptment still in the cabinets (likely not)
The Oldest Truck There Was The Seagrave Rearmount That Was In Red and White That Had No Numbers On It (Thats A 1991 Truck Serving On One Of The Reserves)
OH, THANKS FOR ALL THAT GREAT ADDITIONAL INFO LUNA! YOU COULD HAVE BEEN THERE WITH US! ;o( MAYBE NEXT TIME! RALPH LEAVE FRIDAY SO IF YOU WANNA GO OUT WITH US WE CAN COME GET YOU AND TAKE YOU BACK! ;o)
