    Another good video, I use the Creality LD-002R printer like yours. Love it. Clean up is a bit fussy but great for the sharp details. I have 1 problem though if you could address it please. Water Washable resin is no safer than standard resin in the uncured liquid form. I don't know if James is actually washing this resin down the drain or if it was a B roll shot, but PLEASE do not rinse water washable resin down the drain. The only bonus to water washable is the money saved on isopropyl alcohol or other solvents for cleaning prints. It still needs to be washed in a bin and that waste water treated as a chemical. You can put the water outside to cure the particulate resin and then dispose of the water but never rinsing straight down the drain.

Brian I prefer your basement/garage style builds that I can consider giving a go myself. You have really inspired me so far to give it a go, but all that printing stuff puts me off and scares me. And by the way, Im a Brit as well and the pronounciation is GREEBLIES! 😄

Those also take a good deal more time, so don't worry, we will always have those builds, they just take longer. Thanks for the feedback!

      A resin printer gonna be a mess to take care of (don't ever wash in a sink !!!) but it's worth it for miniature. 3D scaning with your phone on the other end, will not work as much as you immagine it.

      @@SaitoGray any experience with it? What would work for miniatures and greeblies?

    • @SaitoGray
      @SaitoGray 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sketchyguynv a resin printer is perfect for that, but you can absolutely forget about 3D scanning them. The amont of work required to make them look decent require a lot of knowledge in 3d modeling. It will be WAY easier to learn how to use Fusion360 or Blender and make them yourself.
      3d scanning work on really particular case only. And you need a pretty expensive scanner, and there's still a lot of work after to make a decent model. It's not worth wasting your time with it. It's better to learn how to model something.

Now, dammit, you and RBB had to show me those resin printers. And then I had to go and look at the pricing. Looks like I’m going to have to make room for a resin printer.

      The initial investment is not cheap. I was able to grab the printer on sale for $150, but I see now it’s up to $199. After that the IV light and turntable ran about $30. The resin itself is $36 per bottle. So to get started you are at almost $300. However, after that the overall cost is very low. The stuff I have been printing are coming in under a dollar per print worth of resin. I’ve made a dozen or more prints and still have not gone through my first bottle of resin. So after the initial investment it’s very affordable.

    • @TheSmugglersRoom
      @TheSmugglersRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joseph, thank you so much for the feedback. I totally understand where you are coming from. The 3D game does have a bit of a learning curve, that said, with fusion 360 being a free software I really encourage you to give it a go. Just start simple and see what you can come up with. That all said, a lot of the 3D printing I do is with models I find on places like Thingiverse. There are so many talented artists out there putting their work up for free. So you don't even have to know how to 3D model to be able to 3D print. Now with the cost of Resin printers coming down and in some cases lower than $200, it opens a world of possibilities. We will always incorporate scratch building and such in our work, but it's awesome to take advantage of what advances in technology to add to it. Just a thought or two. Thanks for watching!

      @@TheSmugglersRoom Hey, I just realized this is from 5 months ago! Sorry for the late reply, but thanks for the advice. The 3D modeling/printing is something I really want to look into. I can see uses for it beyond just making greeblies :).

    I wanna get started with 3D printing, would you suggest I buy a resin or filament printer first?

      Oh man . . . that is a tough question. The first thing I will say is that it depends on what you want to make. With the resin printer you get incredible detail but the drawback is you end up with very small prints. With a filament printer you have the ability to build larger projects; Helmets, Full Droids, etc. The downfall (in my opinion) is the sanding and prep. But with Resin you have other challenges with clean up and UV curing. Sorry, this is likely not helpful, I think you should decide what you are interested in making and then chose the best tool for that purpose. Hope this is at least a little helpful
