In most places, after it rains it gets cooler. Not in Louisiana! It gets muggier, more humid, and the mosquitoes all come out. Everyone always associates rainfall with the Pacific Northwest. Louisiana gets more rainfall. I was stationed in Louisiana in the military. Loved it. Great state!
In the 90’s, I was a deckhand on a commercial salmon boat in Bristol Bay, Alaska. My first year, we spent a while getting the boat ready so I was super busy; making/mending nets, stocking supplies, etc. I saw a few bears up close bur as we put the boat in the river to head out to sea, I noticed lots of birds. Everywhere. At first I thought they were seagulls but then I realized they were bald eagles!! Thousands!! Each tree on both sides of the river were full of them!! I was absolutely in awe!! And then bears everywhere. The river is the border for Katmai National Park so, LOTS of bears. Everyone shows up for the salmon!!! I can not over-emphasize how incredible it is to sit on the bow and watch eagles dive down and at the last second drop talons and pluck a giant fish out of the river and effortlessly fly off with a very live and struggling heavy fish as if it’s nothing!! Over and over again. With bears sprinkled along the shore. I am forever grateful that I was lucky enough to work up there!!
I think you are talking about the Chilkat Bald Eagle preserve? I went there about 10 years and rafted. Was really cool to see the eagles out "fishing" with their young.
@ hi. No. The shipyard was in King Salmon on the Naknek River. Bristol Bay is above where the Aleutians meet the mainland. Haines is pretty far south of there.
Just a FYI, the skinny "stumps" you see sticking up out of the water next to the cypress trees are called Cypress Knees. When I was young (I'm 79) people would cut them when they were 2 to 5 feet or so tall and peel the bark, dry and sand them smooth. Then they would varnish them and make floor or table lamps with them. They were quiet popular, especially with the tourist. A Louisiana Boy in Arizona
My grandparents had a cypress knee that they used as a doorstop. They got it in Florida in the 1950s. Now, I live in Florida and see the real thing all the time.
Hi , I have some relatives in Arizona. I've been there many times in my life . But driving back home, everything turns green and I can't wait to have Louisiana food cooking again . My gramps water from his farm well also tastes so sweet ......then I'm home ❤
The snow was, and still is, a welcomed once in a life time experience. I was eight years old during the 4.5 inches we got in NOLA back in '63. Yesterday, we got twice that much. Cool!
I think it's safe to say that your a Cajun now! You can speak the language and everybody seems to like ya. This might be your home away from home. Your series in the states has been awesome!! 👍
I’m looking forward to the LSU game. We visited Louisiana last fall. It’s flat, green and lots of water. Very different from where I grew up. Loved it.
"BE STILL MY SOUL." Isn't that statement so true? When you simply be still and open your eyes, you can see more of nature than you ever thought possible. This video was especially great when you spoke to the eagles. Could you imagine having a translator for the eagle and talking to them in their speech? You are having a truly amazing time and seeing some of what nature will reveal to you. Looking forward to your next video. Be safe, watch out for what snakes you pick up, and most of all, have fun. 🤠
The butterfly you filmed is a Viceroy Butterfly - a Mullerian mimic of a Monarch Butterfly - both of which have a toxic taste to would-be predators. The Viceroy is the state butterfly of Kentucky. The Monarch is known for its long migrations, from North America to Mexico and California.
It looks like you had a wonderful birthday. I can't think of a better way for you to spend it than with animals in nature, which I know you love. You weren't home, but it seemed like you felt at home anyway.
I like your appreciation for the bald eagle. I live fairly close to a river, so I see them a few times a week, but I never tire of it. They are magnificent looking birds. Seeing a few pluck fish out of the river is pretty cool too!
Love raccoons. I had one once. She was a rescued orphan named Baby. She imprinted on me and followed me everywhere. I didn't need a leash, unlike a dog or cat. She was always close by. When we walked along the country roads and a car came along, I'd say "Baby up!" and she'd climb up onto my shoulders until the car passed by. Sometimes people would stop and take a picture of my "cargo".
Lovely...I also had one, fell in the fishing boat out a tree.... Eyes were still closed. Her name was Punkin. She lived with our family for 14 years...... She was vicious to anyone sep me, one sister, and my mere. She hated everybody else...... I want another. They'll ruin ya house.... But we had an outdoor habitat. It has a live tree, a pond, 2 barrel homes for hibernation.... She was spoil with cakes, cookies.... Whatever she wanted... Even took her to the pond down the hill to find her own little minnows... Such a heart....❤❤❤
Another video masterpiece. The wildlife in Louisiana is everywhere once you get out of the cities. A lot of America is like that. I live in Washington state and my outside camera captures animals almost every night passing through my neighborhood and my backyard. I have some huge apple trees that produce literally thousands of apples every year. Its a feast for the local wildlife as you can smell the ripening apples from quite far away. Huge deer walk though our neighborhood even in the daytime. ♣ You did a great job capturing so much nature on this video Marie. ♠
Hello Marie you didn't miss record low temps here in Lafayette, Louisiana by many months! I think 4 degrees this AM and measured over 10 inches of snow in one spot in the back yard! Nice video and GOD BLESS!🙏🙏🙏
Garter Snake. The lines that run down their back look like the garters that hold up a lady's stockings. They are amongst the most varied and beautiful snakes in the Americas. They are basically harmless to humans and come in hundreds of beautiful color and pattern combinations. Looks like a beautiful Salt Marsh Snake in your night time video.
There's over 30 different species of garter snake ranging from southern Canada all the way down into Central America, including all 48 of the continental US states. The ones we have in coastal Northern California are deep black with bright yellow pinstripes, and greyish bellies; you see them in wooded areas regularly, because they like to hide in the fallen leaves/branches/evergreen needles.
I'm so glad you had a relaxing visit down in our part of the USA ! I can't wait to see your reaction to a LSU football game in "Tiger Stadium". Happy belated Birthday !
You get a little bit of everything out there.. snakes, racoons, eagles, beavers, turtles, frogs, gators of course.. everything is just so rich in wildlife! Looking forward to the shift in scenery next video when you're at the LSU football game. Cheers! 🍻⚜️🇺🇸
you got some really beautiful videos..my favorite was the garter snake periscoping..every shot looked so peaceful. I really hope you enjoyed all of it.
Marie, I'm not entirely sure why, but from the time when I was a teenager and saw footage of the Bayou and Cajun country, it has always drawn me to visit the place for a long time. Not sure if I could live there year-round, as I HAAAAATE bad humidity, but apart from that, everything else (i.e. the wildlife, the frontier-like feeling of the Bayou, the great Cajun-Creole food, the people/culture/music) has always drawn me to the Louisiana Bayou. I hope you enjoyed it very much 😊
You learn very quickly once you live here that you don't want to spend too long out in the sun in the summer. It's fine in the morning but once it hits 1 or 2 pm that high humidity + 90+ F heat + direct sun is a killer. It's very nice in spring and fall though (just watch out for hurricanes in the fall).
I lived in a few places in and around New Orleans. I do not miss the heat at all. lol I do miss Cafe Du Monde coffee and their beignets. Use to take my kids to the French Market on the weekends. I recognize a lot of the areas in your videos. Use to go fishing with my in laws out in the bayou. Areas we went if you went through fast and made a large wake was a way to get shot at. lol
I wonder what those eagle calls were telling them to react like that?? That was so beautiful and special! Crazy to think that very area got buried in snow yesterday. This was a BEAUTIFUL video. What a gorgeous, friendly and peaceful place. Thanks for sharing.
The calls were saying "I'm a strange eagle in your territory". That's why they were swooping around searching for it, to drive it away from their nest.
The harmonica song you chose was perfect for your laid back visit to rural Louisiana. I'm surprised it was still hot in November. Looks like you had fun.
It's still hot in December most of the time. Well, not "Louisiana hot", but around 70-75F during the day. A typical winter is a lot of +60F days and +40F nights, with some warn weeks of +70F and quite a few cold weeks of +50F days. Then there's usually a day or two of 40F days and 20F nights sprinkled in every two months or so of the late fall-early spring season. It's during these days when any amount of snow is even possible (we get less than an inch every 5-10 years or so) This year has been a once a century kind of Louisiana winter
I always enjoy your videos. I know you were asking in an earlier video for places to visit. Here is something for you to look check out. In Wisconsin, where I am orginally from, every summer they have a large air show. The EAA Air Venteure Show. It is normally at the end of July in Oshkosh, Wi. . I know you love aircraft and they usually have plenty of WW 2 airplanes including P-51 Mustangs there. Just something you might want to look into for your future travels. And Happy Belated Birthday.
Great nature shots! Wow, driving a pickup truck, you are becoming a country southern girl. What did you think about the recent snow in LA? Hoping your winter is going well. Stay healthy and safe.
I'm glad you had a relaxing day on my 57th B-day. I just took it easy & the family took me out for dinner at Lazy Dog's here in Loveland. Hope you had a perfect birthday my fellow Scorpion.
I had an encounter with a red fox just like the one you had with the raccoon. I stood completely still and it came right up to me before it realized I was there. It cocked its head like a dog does, then turned around and trotted away.
The orange butterflies are Monarch butterflies. In the fall, they fly to a mountain grove in central Mexico to wait out the winter. The survivors fly north in the spring, lay their eggs, and die. This continues with each generation moving further north. The fourth generation then flies back to Mexico next fall.
The butterfly is not a Monarch. It's a Viceroy Butterfly. They are not related to the Monarch. The Viceroy is smaller. What gives it away as a Viceroy,is the single black line that goes across the bottom sections of the wings.
I wish I knew you was in the area, I would have loved to stop and say Hi to you. I grew up & live in Morgan City, La. about 10 min. from Pierre Part. I moved away a couple of times when I was younger, once just north of Dallas Tx. for a year & a half, but I always came back to Morgan City. I love the wildlife, hunting & fishing too much to move away. Love your videos, keep up the good work. Thanks.
You probably already know, but the Bald Eagle is America’s “National Bird” and is protected by law. If you are caught killing one, you will be sentenced to time in prison. One was found dead recently in fact and they are investigating the circumstances to find the killers now. The bird just started making its home in the south (Louisiana) recently. Until about 10-12 years ago, they couldn’t be found in the south…. especially as far south as Louisiana. But the bird is HUGE with a wingspan of up to 8-9 feet. But it’s an honor for us Louisianians to have them as part of our plethora of wild animals. Louisiana is called “The Sportsman’s Paradise” because of all the nature and hunting and fishing we have available to us. You just got a taste of what there is to do in Louisiana. Awesome video Marie! 😊 I think getting those eagles to react was really cool. The eagle noises that regenerated were non-threatening. That's why they simply flew around looking for another eagle. Then they went right back to where they came from. Gardner snakes are the best. If you get a couple to live in your backyard, you will never have another problem with critters anymore. Raccoons are always fun to watch. As long as you don't find them in your house. Your reaction to turn signals was spot on. It almost seems waste of time and money inventing them LOL😂 and your guide's instructions on how to react to a stop sign was even better. "Spin Tires On Pavement" 😂👍 We used to say "No Cops No Cars No Red Lights" or signs". Then referred to the maneuver as a "California Roll" Loved the video. Excellent production. ❤😊
Bonjour Marie! Great video full of great scenery. You truly are blessed to get to experience all of that. Question: I think he said STOP means Spin Tires On Pavement, but the cation said Spend. Spin makes more sense, and I thought it's what he said. Could you please clarify if the saying in NO/LA is Spin or Spend? The music with the footage of the Racoon was so melancholy it was sadly beautiful...or beautifully sad. Thanks for sharing this vid and your time and experiences with us. Bonne journee! ~Be Blessed
Love your videos. Honestly, since the video long ago where you cried for the soldiers at the Normandy American Cemetery you've had a special place in my heart. I hope you had a great adventure here and come on back anytime Marie.

I saw pictures and videos! it's crazy! but looking so pretty 😊

I've been here for 31 out of my 31 years lol. I love it here.
This makes me homesick for my home in Louisiana. Many camping and fishing trips as a kid in Pierre Part and Lake Varette with my dad.
Truly one of the great snake spotters of our generation! 😅
You're always welcome to come back to America. You're a "nature nut" and you'll find happiness here.

Glad you enjoyed your time in the bayou. It's a special place with many down to Earth kind people and nature rules supreme there.
There s truly no other place on Earth like South Louisiana. I hope you had a wonderful time during your visit.

Mon cher, IT SNOWED HERE!.. Absolutely been magical! So glad ya got to slow down and really soak in the Bayou❤ Thanks again Dan🎉
You are making friends everywhere. Froggies and snakes are one thing, but when you win over the raccoons its next level.

Some extended relaxation...very good to see. The calm serenity, surrounded by nature going about its routines...beautiful.
It looks like you had a wonderful birthday. I can't think of a better way for you to spend it than with animals in nature, which I know you love. You weren't home, but it seemed like you felt at home anyway.

Beautifully done Marie. I think you captured those laid back days and evenings at the water in South Louisiana perfectly.
Great Video again Marie ☺ you are So good at this . I enjoyed all the wildlife too 🦝🌿

No idea! Gotta ask Danny haha
Shame you didn’t get to be there for the snow they got over the last couple days.
You need to look at the current weather reports from Louisiana.
I think you must have a great sense of how varied and large the U.S. is after so many visits. Your Louisiana videos were lovely.
Thank you. I love my Louisiana! ❤
