Hey! Tolkien & LOTRO Content creator here. As someone who also has played since start of LOTRO. I loved this Review! It is so nice to see a positive Review on the Game that is fair and points out goods and bads. But LOTRO is pretty much an amazing MMO in all regards like you said in video! Anyway, Well done video! Thought I say hi! My Kinship is on Server crickhollow if you ever want to play! :D Cheers! Keep it up! BARUK KHAZAD! P.S. I also play league of legends just not on my tolkien channel here on youtube :P. Sounds like we enjoyed the same games in 2000s! :D
I just started a FTP character last month and have already sunk over 50 hours in game. It may not be a lot compared to most MMO vets, but I've seriously never had so much fun or gotten hooked to any MMO like this in my life. Such a special game
Having the vast geography and music etched into my soul from playing this game made listening to the audiobooks so amazing. It turned the books into the ultimate lore content but 50+ hours of it with the quality of great literature.
So many good memories, idk if I can choose just one!! But highlights for me include being welcome by the community and finding a loving and fun kinship, crying during the farewell to the Fellowship in Rivendell, meeting Tom Bombadil, and the first time I saw The Shire. I was awestruck. Still am! Thank you for this video. It’s emotional, informative, and well edited! I’m sure Tolkien would be proud.
Hey man, enjoyed watching this. I started playing on Angmar recently. Prior to a couple week ago, last time I played the game was when it released. Game has been a breath of fresh air and I’ve been enjoying it way more than I thought I would.
I played at launch then my friend group moved on and so did I. I am back a fresh baby captain on Angmar and am having a great time solo so far. Looking forward to a kinship and progressing through the expansions as they come out. Great video! Also thanks for the captain guides. I doubt I will get to your level but I enjoy the vibes of the class.
This is a great video! Your dialogue really conveys those nostalgic feelings I love about this game. Like you, I've played off and on throughout the years. But I came back again a few months ago and it really feels like I'm done mmo-hopping for good. LOTRO is home. As I heard someone say recently: LOTRO is like a cozy sweater that keeps you warm on a cold, rainy day.
dang bro , not going to lie this was a very touching video I shed a little tear XD. I remember back when I was in highschool and the game was just releasing & the trailer being played countless times on tv... I wanted to play so badly. Unfortunately I grew up VERY poor and was not able to get the game nor did I even have a PC that would have run the game at the time, lol. It wasn't until I was mid twenties that I had a 300 dollar laptop and decided to give it a try on steam..I believe this was back in 2014/2015 I think when Rohan was endgame. I've always been such a huge Tolkien fan ever since my 7th grade language arts teacher introduced it to us and had us read the hobbit and later on when introduce me to the LOTR books and more. Ever since that point I was in love with it. It was such a magical experience like nothing else, LOTRO will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart it was actually my very first MMO and living and breathing in such a vast open world where it was so apparent that it was created with nothing but love was amazing and something you just don't see with newer games. I always find myself coming back to the game here and there and this most recent time on the Angmar server, something about this game is just so breathtakingly immersive even though the graphics aren't greatest, it's just being in the world , it REALLY feels like middle earth..truly! great video, look forward to more and to more guides in the coming updates of the Angmar server !
-Also wanted to add my favorite updates were Osgiliath, Pelennor , throne was the best raid for me and the instance clusters from both osgiliath and pelennor were just amazing!
My favorite moment from Lord of the Rings Online was visiting the house of Tom Bombadill, and visiting Rivendell. Rivendell is so lovely, and the music is great. Oh, and listening to the "Lament for Oakenshield"!
My favorite memory was going to game stop early in the morning to play this game on day one or two and being blown away at the ability to go to the places i read about in the book. Nothing will ever top that first week of role playing and exploration.
I joined LOTRO as an F2P player in late 2017, transferred to Landroval and joined the Knights of the White Lady kinship in 2018, then took a LONG break and came back to the game late last year - and even though I had only spent less than a year playing before, it really felt like coming home. On the whole the community is welcoming and helpful, both within my kinship and in random interactions across the landscape. Every region feels lovingly crafted, and I think that attention is why I find myself returning to places where there's nothing left for me to do, just to see the sights and listen to the music. I'm level 116 and I know I still have a long way to go, and I'm looking forward to the rest of my *first* playthrough of LOTRO.
Riding through the Shire is a great antidote to post-election blues. I've been playing LoTRO on and off since launch, and being in Middle-Earth always brings me a sense of peace.
Leveling in North Downs, finding friends, doing instaces in Angmar and getting a depression in Moria, where i stopped playing and have now returned to the wonder of lotro. Thanks for your vidoes, could you maybe do one about late game stats?
Love the game, always have and always will. This, Vanilla - Wotlk WoW and Star Wars Galaxies are my two biggest childhood memory filled online experiences (other than COD and Battlefield with the boiz lol). Exploring, meeting people, sandboxing, rp'ing, etc etc. Modern MMO experiences just don't offer the same feeling anymore. Hopefully stuff like Monsters and Memories and Ashes of Creation can help fill that void. But as someone whos about to turn 29, I still remember min maxing and meta guides from pre LOTRO release. Star Wars Galaxies, 2004, I was a stupid kid and following guides cause I didnt know what I was doing. Same with other games like Fable and Diablo 2. Guides and wikis were 100% starting back then and pretty popular (in my experience at least). I eventually just stopped using those though, after a family friend explained his stories of discovery. Great times.
LoTRO isn't some random MMO. It is a love letter to all fans/gamers of middle earth and Tolkien's books. The ppl who created this MMO never wanted to strictly follow the movies, nor they had any intentions to. The game itself is very well made and truly represent the middle earth (some dingleberries will say look at Umbar), and even then the game is still the same, same lore, same environtment, same Tolkien's vibe. LoTRO is the only MMO dedicated to Tolkien's work. It's truly Lord of The Rings game. Also LoTRO has nothing to prove in the MMO industry. It's been here for 17 years. 17 years of content, it's massive, it's huge, and will take you long time, very, very long time to reach end-game if you decide to play the game the proper way. I've been off and on for 17 years too. My main MMO is FFXIV, and GW2, but I always find time for my hiden gaming love and that is LoTRO. Because of this legendary server I totally skipped the launch of Janthir Wilds expansion of GW2, but I feel good, because LoTRO is also home for me. The game has very generous F2P model and you can earn the premium currency just by playing the game, and then you can buy quite a lot of stuff from the store without paying a dime. Should you play LoTRO in 2024? yea, you can try in 2025, or 2026, it will be still middle earth for you, and this hidden gem that you haven't discovered yet.
I also played FFXIV for a while as a long time MMO vet. After about 2000 hours I called it quits because I found the endgame to be incredibly weak, and the patch cycles were (and continue to be) few in number and content. Great game and I hope Dawntrail redeems it at some point, but so far it's not looking good.
@@ViveLeQuebecLibreTabarnak FFXIV literally has the best end game of any MMO. It has for causal and for try hards trials and raids. And everyone can do them, at any given time (for casuals that is). For the first time I am seeing someone calling FFXIV endgame "weak". It blows my mind, even.

I just started playing LOTRO for the first time ever on the new progression server Angmar. I am a blue line hobbit lore master and I am having so much fun. I find myself just running around looking at the beautiful environments and taking my time reading all the quest dialogues. There is just something about this world that makes me so giddy, I will definitely stick around for every expansion release. Just as a side note, its funny you mentioned Runescape, 20 year veteran and still going strong if you haven’t checked the username lol 💪🏻
Played LOTRO way back around 2010. Last played when the max was L75 Isenguard with warden (as main) & LM, Burg, RK, Capt. Then visited every 3-4years. Now I'm back and just leveled to almost 40 =) with Beorning (as main) & Hunter. Games is really relaxing & so much fun!
I tried to play this, every time I started it kept saying my server was closing and I’d be booted in a few minutes, I really wanted to get into this game
My childhood friend told me to start this game and I downloaded it but never actually started the game. Now I am about to download it again and give it a try just because of this video. 🙂
I'm returning to the game after almost a decade, and as much as I love the game itself, the setting, the story, the game feels extremely unpopulated. The consensus seems to point towards legendary servers, but I don't want to throw my progress in the bin and start again after a month of playing in my old server (Landroval). This game deserves a lot more players
Yes, the game is definitely not as populated as other MMOs - you have to make an effort to seek people out sometimes, which I can understand not being worth it for some people.
Never played lotro and saw new legendary servers came out about a month ago so im trying it out, lvl 10 Guardian . So far it seems good, everyone is talking about lag which ruins the game, I hope thats not the case .
I consider myself a "competitive player" in the sense that I want BiS items and I guess that is what a "competitive player" would be in LOTRO? I play alot of games, from APEX to Lineage... I am able to enjoy a wide range of games. LOTRO is a chill MMO, alot of people only play for the story and such. I feel like the "raider scene" is a very small percent of the playerbase. I enjoy it all, personally. The world, the quests, the graphic design.... it's a gem of a game for any gamer that loves LOTR.
Absolutely. The competitive scene is getting BIS, doing the highest tier raids and such. It’s a small part of the fantastic game, the world and story and incredible.
Can LotRO be played effectively fully solo? As a busy dad I don't have all the time I'd like to group/gang but I'd still like to have a full/effective experience..
Absolutely, if you play on Angmar feel free to send me a message. My kinship has lots of dads and busy people that don’t have a ton of time but would still like to socialize occasionally:)
what are the chances, i was in your kin for a week or so lol i would love to join again not sure why i left just been questing on my own :) thanks for the video
Ive got 2 x Lifetime accounts for this. Best gaming investment I ever made. Most treasured memory must be getting Thaurlach the Balrog after 6 months of wipes. Twice a week our kin would assemble, try & wipe until we finally did it.
Ive been thinking of checking this game out. How long can you play before you "need" to spend money/buy an expansion? I played it back in 2007 and i think my small, teenage brain just didn't appreciate the game. Cuz even in those days games like WoW were designed for "optimimal fun".
As the only true open world mmorpg with one of the biggest map ever, the answer is a resounding yes! Thousands of quests and you are not pressured to reach end game.
i watch these videos, i think "man i should get into lotro" i ask my lotr loving friends to come, i make a character, play for 2 days, no one joins me and i stop playing.
Sounds like you should join a kinship and find more friends who share that interest with you :) We would be happy to have you join our kinship on Angmar!
@@YTJayell I usually do the human starting zone then quit, idk the game is also very dead at low levels and you don't really have anyone to play with, it's a pity
Same, its been so long since I've played. A lot of the servers are so dead now. Its hard to get into the game when there isn't a thriving community. People always talk about how the game is still very alive, but I never see that when I'm online, and I'm not willing to pay the monthly subscription to find out. Its a real shame, because I LOVE LOTR, and I love LOTRO as well, its so nostalgic, but a healthy player base is what makes an MMO. LOTRO is almost at the point where they could just sell it as a single player experience now.
How is leveling "so rich and full of adventures" when the game poses no challenge whatsoever and your HP bar never gets reduced below 90%????? I don't get you people. It's like a single player game played on less than minimum difficulty.
LOTRO just doesn't play well, it has little to do with efficiently or optimally playing the game. Anyone who puts in the amount of time required to fall in love with it, won't have a problem with "efficiency" or "optimally". There are few LOTR fans as dedicated as I am, and even I can't stomach this game. I would love to play a good LOTR MMO, but this ain't it.
The way SSG shoves the cash shop down players throats is horrendous 🫣! Typical annoying FTP monetisation tactic, shame because many people love the IP !
I am a FTP player, I haven’t had any issues ignoring the shop. Not saying monetization of MMOs isn’t annoying and in your face, but I suppose they have to keep the servers up somehow.

Genuinely the best MMORPG ever made
Can LotRO be played effectively fully solo? As a busy dad I don't have all the time I'd like to group/gang but I'd still like to have a full/effective experience..
Absolutely, if you play on Angmar feel free to send me a message. My kinship has lots of dads and busy people that don’t have a ton of time but would still like to socialize occasionally:)
what are the chances, i was in your kin for a week or so lol i would love to join again not sure why i left just been questing on my own :) thanks for the video
We would be happy to have you back. Shoot me a message in game or on discord and I’ll get you back in.
Ive got 2 x Lifetime accounts for this. Best gaming investment I ever made. Most treasured memory must be getting Thaurlach the Balrog after 6 months of wipes. Twice a week our kin would assemble, try & wipe until we finally did it.
Love the feeling of overcoming what seems impossible together!!
will Mordor the legacy server stand long?
I expect it will! Plenty of EU players and that is the best server for them to play on as it is the only one in EU
Oh i miss that game, too bad my back wont let me sit outside of work
Ive been thinking of checking this game out. How long can you play before you "need" to spend money/buy an expansion? I played it back in 2007 and i think my small, teenage brain just didn't appreciate the game. Cuz even in those days games like WoW were designed for "optimimal fun".
It will probably be a number of years before you need any expansion - if any at all.
@@youtubefan5786legendary servers are packed
Bree-land and Angmar are awesome. Too bad that angmar has so much lag.
I was more competitive than you in my 20s. Raiding was just a way to get gear for pvp! Hahaha
Funny kin name lol
How is leveling "so rich and full of adventures" when the game poses no challenge whatsoever and your HP bar never gets reduced below 90%????? I don't get you people. It's like a single player game played on less than minimum difficulty.
There are 9 difficulty levels to play on. Cater the difficulty to your liking.
tryed it got toali overwhelmed stucked on fist quest after hour alt f4 and uninstalled
I haven't had any issues with the 64-bit server. But to each their own!
Minas Tirith is horrible in this game.
As in design? Or because of the lag? I think it looks quite nice.
@@YTJayell Design, navigating in that zone is a mess.
Ummm no.
