I'm really interested by casting. I saw a guy cast Brass Knuckles from a sand mould, I know you need equipment to make it happen, but it's pretty cool that you can cast from home anything you want that is hard to buy
I have an uncle that's pretty good with making and he sand casted a bugatti veyron last week. He was driving it by Friday. Damnedest thing I'd ever seen.

It is not just sand,mold sand is mixed with some binders and cooked. After cooking it becomes more rigid. Notice the sand around the mold is loose and and different color than the mold sand that is probably why you asked the question
The glass stays in the top to help keep the metals from oxidation.
