I think it’s mostly money, granted OSU was doing well before nil due to recruiting. If the B10 keeps winning the recruits will keep coming. If OSU wins the Natty, you’ll notice both OSU and UM natty winners had similar teams in age experience and physical development. I think an experienced 22-23 yr old 3 star will hold his own or even bully a 19-20 yr old 5 star. OSU team is nearly all seniors. Most of their NIL was spent retaining those guys, Michigan did it last year and they were monsters in the trenches. I also think trenches are determining more games and the north has been doing well at producing good big lineman
Agreed with all of this but let’s not act like Ohio state doesn’t have maybe the best safety duo in the country. A top 2-3 RB duo. And the best receiver room in the country. It’s not just the trenches
One season. Big Ten was 10-6 in bowls. SEC was 8-6. I will concede that they lost an opening round, second round game and third round and that Ohio State is ultimately dominant currently, but these articles with headlines stating such things like, "Is the SEC done?" are ridiculous click bait. It is also ridiculous for people that think the SEC are light years ahead of anyone else. I know such people. This year, the SEC had a bunch of almost good enough teams and didn't win it all. Congrats to ND and Ohio State. I wish people focused on great teams and the accomplishments vs. this conference vs. conference nonsense, but that is what creates the most controversy and engagement for media.
To add some context, the SEC was 1-5 against the Big Ten, and its champ Georgia lost to ND. I'm not writing off the SEC after one year, but Northern teams flexed this year. 2025 should be interesting.
Two reasons people are shitting on the sec: 1) Two decades of Arkansas, Kentucky and South Carolina fans chanting SEC as if they didn’t also get their asses kicked by bama, LSU and Georgia. 2) The bull shit argument that 9-3 bama, South Carolina and ole miss deserved to get into the playoff. The conference argument is stupid but y’all down south brought this upon yourselves.
@ I live up north haha. I agree that the most annoying SEC homers are the mid to low tier teams riding the coattails. Also I blame their commissioner for being especially annoying.
Nil and transfer portal has evened out the talent. I said it a year ago when discussing with friends that the SEC is gonna have a real wake up call on just how much more money the northern and texas schools have to draw from than they do in the deep south.
It hasn't evened out the talent nationally, it has raised the bottom and middle of the SEC, while dropping the top of the SEC from elite to great (A+ to A). The rest of the country didn't get better.
B1G went 5-1 against the best of the SEC this postseason. Only a top 25 Missouri clipping unranked Iowa by 3 points prevented a 6-0 B1G sweep. Even B1G USC beat SEC LSU early in the season.
Contrary to popular belief the north cares a lot about football, just as much as the south. The difference is the northern schools like notre dame and Michigan see themselves as elite institutions of higher education and really bought into the student athlete model. Michigan and notre dame really didn’t pay players like many of the southern schools (and Ohio state) which is partially why they fell behind. Now that it’s legal both schools have fully embraced paying players and both schools have a lot more money than southern schools. I think both will compete for national titles along with Ohio state for years to come.
Before Nick Saban arrived in Alabama, the average college football fan couldn't tell you what SEC stood for. It would have been great to have had the championship in Indianapolis this year. If an agent is charging 20%, that means another agent won't do it for less. It must be more work to advertise those players.
Re NIL agents, Pat Forde asks a pertinent question. The question is how much work and hours are involved. The more work/hours involved, the higher the percentage should be.
I don’t even know why this is such a big deal. This happens in ALL sports. It’s happened in College Football several times. There was a period where Nebraska and Oklahoma dominated the sport. It’s always going to ebb and flow.
It's spreading amongst SEC teams, future NFL players are moving around within the league and the ACC powers. Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin, USC, Maryland, Rutgers, etc. aren't getting better, the top of the SEC is just knocked down a level, while the middle and bottom of the SEC goes up one level.
Ohio state intentionally played slower to limit the amount plays they ran. They did worry about scoring fast and putting up 50+ against Northwestern or Purdue. They intentionally played slower to limit total plays throughout the season.
Best players on Ohio State, Freshman from Miami, defensive player from Alabama, bcuz they recruit n hit the transfer portal from the South.. thats why osu is there... dont follow ND
DL from Ohio, DL from Washington, WR from Washington, RB from VA, DT from VA, QB from PA. LB from Ohio, LB from New Jersey. Stop cherry picking your narrative.
@benmeaige4306 im sorry just picked the 2 best players the 2 highest draft picks the 2 highest paid players if not this year definitely in the future.. the players that might be top 10 draft picks.. i didnt pick the other guys, just pick the shaq n kobe, not the derek fishers of the team..
For one Buckeyes, TTUN, Norte Dame & Penn State just to name a few have more money! Bama needs a bake sale, Buckeyes a medical school with overseas kings etc donate with Cleveland Clinic backing will have plenty of money. We know Texas got that oil money, Ohio do too just can't drill here no more how u think Rockefeller got rich in Cleveland! Its an even playing field now!
I don’t get where you think it’s even now, You just admitted that the teams up north have a bigger geographic area to recruit from and a lot more money so why do they have to come down south and buy players.
There has always been speculation (albeit not proven without a shadow of a doubt) that SEC schools have been paying players. NIL has leveled the playing field.
I think this conversation is a bit premature even though I’m an ND fan. I certainly think there is truth to the conversation, however, the recruiting is still very in favor of the traditional giants. Texas, Georgia, Alabama, are still pulling their share and then some of the 5 star recruits. OSU and Oregon get the 5 stars as well and they are well placed. Not an SEC fan but Texas was a couple plays away from advancing and with a dominant QB, I would argue that they would be another SEC team dominating their way to another National Championship.
Let’s tell the truth- the #1 reason that the SEC is struggling, is because players can now get paid anywhere. If all teams were paying players, NIL wouldn’t hurt the SEC disproportionately.
Big DEAL! It's about time that midwestern teams started "outperforming" southern teams! Southern teams have won 13 of the last 18 National Championships, and have appeared in 16 of the last 18 national championship games!
LOL . . . SEC teams have won 13 championships in the last 20 years. The Big Ten has won 2 and MIGHT win a third this year. I'm pretty sure the SEC is doing just fine.
Fine? The poor SEC schools are like the Confederacy. But the teams of the Northern schools in the B1G 10 are richer and pay their players accordingly, because of the the wealthy donors who give to their alma mater. Even the namesake of Ryan Field, head of Aon, has donated the Bills-lite new stadium for his alma mater Northwestern.
Does anyone really think sec was the only one paying players Ohio State and Michigan was as well and the Pac-12 if you remember Reggie Bush and USC Notre Dame was the only one not paying players
@CarlaJenkinsTV Don't get it twisted the SEC has definitely been doing it but so has all the other big schools... if you don't believe it you don't know football
Bama under Saban was consistently paying the most. Saban won because Bama was able to get 95% of the 5 Stars year after year, and keep them there because the Transfer Portal back then isn't what it is like now. The kids don't have to sit out a year now when they transfer. If you want to see what Saban's W-L Record is when he had to compete on a level playing field, look at his NFL record with the Dolphins. Saban is the greatest Fraud of all time.
The playing field being level isn't all from NIL/PORTAL. OSU have been getting SEC Southern players for years. Lot of it is do to the 12 team playoffs. Game set up. Bowl set ups. SEC team traveling north in to cold bad weather. SEC isn't getting all the home field cooking. SEC can't play in cold rain, wind,or snow.
I think it’s mostly money, granted OSU was doing well before nil due to recruiting. If the B10 keeps winning the recruits will keep coming. If OSU wins the Natty, you’ll notice both OSU and UM natty winners had similar teams in age experience and physical development. As a Buckeye Fan, I TOTALLY agree.
To add some context, the SEC was 1-5 against the Big Ten, and its champ Georgia lost to ND. I'm not writing off the SEC after one year, but Northern teams flexed this year. 2025 should be interesting.
Two seasons actually
There is definitely the birth of a trend happening
Two reasons people are shitting on the sec:
1) Two decades of Arkansas, Kentucky and South Carolina fans chanting SEC as if they didn’t also get their asses kicked by bama, LSU and Georgia.
2) The bull shit argument that 9-3 bama, South Carolina and ole miss deserved to get into the playoff.

@ I live up north haha. I agree that the most annoying SEC homers are the mid to low tier teams riding the coattails. Also I blame their commissioner for being especially annoying.
Also funny that the very same format that will give us the most undisputed champion of all time, is the very format that will hurt the SEC.
Coincidence that this is happening 3-4 years after it’s legal for all teams to pay players?
Nil and transfer portal has evened out the talent. I said it a year ago when discussing with friends that the SEC is gonna have a real wake up call on just how much more money the northern and texas schools have to draw from than they do in the deep south.

Nah the 12 team just gave them the room to expose all the SEC hypotheticals
Caused the SEC to play in the Midwest and North. Big bad SEC crumbled away from home. When they faced that cold rain and snow weather.
B1G went 5-1 against the best of the SEC this postseason. Only a top 25 Missouri clipping unranked Iowa by 3 points prevented a 6-0 B1G sweep. Even B1G USC beat SEC LSU early in the season.
Bowl games outside of the playoffs really don't count when you have half of the team in the portal or preparing for the NFL draft.
There are no other sports commentators that can hold a candle to you guys.
You know what the media needs to do though? You need to get Reggie Bush’s Heisman reinstated. It’s absolute garbage knowing what we know now.
Contrary to popular belief the north cares a lot about football, just as much as the south. Yes they will unless they put a cap on nil.
Were back to the old Big Ten dominance
You must be referring to the REALLY old Big Ten dominance, like back to the 60s or 70s. lol
Before Nick Saban arrived in Alabama, the average college football fan couldn't tell you what SEC stood for.

OB Ratings: 430 Pacific Time on Thursday and the people in LA had more important things to do - likely cost a significant amount (5-10% I'm guessing).
Maybe it's because the playing field is level now!!
No it’s not level now the northern teams have a lot of rich donors that can help their schools buy players.
@SteveAllen-x2m Pay back is a bitch! SEC schools have been paying for years! So, boo FN hoo!!
is the talent spreading or is it moving to blue bloods over league.
Definitely going to the blue bloods because they have deeper pockets but ultimately it will destroy college football.

There is also a Steak 'n' Shake in Champaign/Urbana home of the U of I.

Don’t have a problem with nil but they need to put a cap on it.
A lot of copium being used down south 😂😂
Didn't Brian Kelly double his compensation package by leaving for LSU? Call me naive, but that was probably THE reason.
Big DEAL! It's about time that midwestern teams started "outperforming" southern teams! Southern teams have won 13 of the last 18 National Championships, and have appeared in 16 of the last 18 national championship games!
Midwestern teams are finally doing something and now they are outperforming the sec? 😂

Lol.... Barry Bonds is the single season home run leader as well as the all-time home run leader. Milli Vanilli won a grammy.
Sec also been paying players for bout 20 years espen and them paid of ncaa to turn blind eye to i mean its clear now nil is in play
Pretty easy when there home games. SEC is soft and can't play in real football weather, and travel. Say bye to the Ships.
"the best teams MONEY can buy ! is this really college sports anymore ?
^ $1400 guy
Clickbait
There outperforming them because half there roster is from the south
Does anyone really think sec was the only one paying players Ohio State and Michigan was as well and the Pac-12 if you remember Reggie Bush and USC Notre Dame was the only one not paying players
Stop that lie. Quit trying to say that your rival USC and the team you're playing against for a national championship are like the SEC. They're not.
@CarlaJenkinsTV Don't get it twisted the SEC has definitely been doing it but so has all the other big schools... if you don't believe it you don't know football
And Go Irish 😉
@@CarlaJenkinsTVThey were.

It’s football why can’t the teams play in a controlled environment instead of playing in cold or hot weather?
And why does ohio st. have to recruit the south.
