I can't believe so many people have watched my reaction to this, even though I have seen that people don't consider this to be the best recap, I still enjoyed the humor the person put into the recap, and I thought it gave a decent background even if they did did talk really fast 😂 anyway thanks again for watching!

    This man definitely absolutely fudged the explanation of the ending. When Athena asked for kratos to give everything to her. As kratos who served the gods for so long and losing trust kratos thought Athena would use the powers selfishly he found the only way is to kill himself and give those powers to mankind and the world directly rather than through Athena.

      @vibeking1995 that's great, we read some of the original myths in one of my early English courses. It was fun knowing tidbits of information, like being familiar with Ambrosia and having a better understanding of what the gods represent and how they function. I made a friend in that class because he mentioned Charon's role in Hades, and I'm like, this sucker read the Percy Jackson books. Anyway, I think those books did an amazing job of bringing the myths to the modern world, though there are certainly some liberties they take in how that's done. I think you could appreciate it and should give it a shot. If you play games, do you like God of War? I imagine Marvel's Asgard leaves much to be desired, considering how wildly different it is from the myths.

    I'd like to clarify something from this video. When Athena told Kratos to kill Ares, she didn't say she'd take away his nightmares or memories, she said the gods would forgive his sins. But, the conversation itself did give the impression that they'd take his memories. Big difference.

    I feel like you should've picked a different video regarding the story of Kratos because the video you picked skips some important lines that would show even more on why Kratos is so angry with the gods. Example, the video you watched just brushed off Kratos' mom just dying but in actuality, he was FORCED to kill her because she turned into a monster from a curse placed by the gods.
    If you wanna know a better DETAILED summary, just look up " History of Kratos". Its around an hour long and does a better job summarizing the previous games.

  • @GLITCHED1
    @GLITCHED1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    The beginning of the video actually already says a lot. Odin and Zeus are very much a like. Like Freya said talking about Odin "- but like all his decisions they are driven by fear." out of fear of his death Zeus sent Ares and Athena out to capture "the marked warrior" only to bring about his own demise along side the demise of the Greek pantheon. Amazing that.

  • @SpScarletSpider
    @SpScarletSpider 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Something to point out about Zeus in the God of War series: he is actually somewhat in the middle as far as being good and evil. He was concerned about the marked warrior prophecy, but prior to the initial opening of Pandora's box, he actually liked Kratos enough to intervene enough to help him against Ares (he digs an exit out of Hades for Kratos while disguised as the gravedigger in the first game). When the evils of the box are released, he and the other gods barring Athena (at least initially), fall prey to their fears and become extremely paranoid about everything. Kratos' rage didn't help matters much, but there's actually an unused voiceline by Zeus in God of War 3 that was meant to be played when Zeus dies and the fear from the box is released from him, and that voiceline has Zeus apologizing to Kratos for everything. The ultimate tragedy is that had the gods not been corrupted by the evils from the box, they'd have handled Kratos a lot differently (such as for instance, releasing Deimos to be in his care, or actually talking things out with Kratos, or even getting his family out of Hades). Zeus and most of the other gods were imperfect and messed up in a lot of ways, but they didn't actually hate or dislike Kratos. Zeus' past mistakes as a father to Kratos caused everything to happen the way that it did, along with Ares' shenanigans such as making Kratos kill his own family (which is a references to Hera causing Heracles/Hercules to kill his family in the original Greek mythology).
    The recurring theme is that the gods (both Greek and Norse) don't really know how to approach family matters very well, and their choices tend to lead to worse problems that catch up with them over time.

    To be clear, Athena never promised Kratos that they would take away his nightmares. She said "the past that consumes you will be forgiven". "We promised your sins would be forgiven, and so they are, but we never promised to take away your nightmares". That's a key element that the video maker cocked up. @@galacticcaveman4045 Actually Cory Barlog expressed an interest in the Norse and Egyptian pantheons as far back as God of War II. If I’m not mistaken, his original idea was for each new entry to include a foray into a different pantheon with God of War II being the first Norse entry. I don’t remember if it it was all supposed to happen with Kratos or if it was going to be with different characters, though. My point here, however, is that branching out into other pantheons has been the plan for a long time and it has nothing to do with a TV show that was literally still being made at the same time.

      @@galacticcaveman4045 Aside from him being its lead animator, sure, it had nothing to do with him. I wasn’t talking about which game was the best. I was saying that as far back as God of War II (which Cory Barlog directed) eventually switching to the Norse and Egyptian pantheons was the plan. You have to keep in mind, man, the ending to God of War (2005) was pretty final because no sequels were planned so, from a business standpoint, when the sequels were green lit they probably weren’t too keen on taking the kind of risks that switching to a different pantheon that early on would entail. They’re far more likely to want to keep the same formula that made them a bunch of money so I don’t doubt that any experimentation Cory was attempting was shot down and by the time 2018’s entry rolled around with the series long established and Cory back in the director’s chair, Kratos was already the game’s mascot and synonymous with the series. I doubt they would even let him make a new game without Kratos front and center now. I don’t think Kratos interacting with those pantheons was the original plan, but given how the series has unfolded that’s where we are now.

    A few key corrections:
    -Kratos abandons his daughter in order to save her from perishing with the rest of existence. If not for that Kratos would have let the world be destroyed by Persephone.
    -Kratos had hope in him since GoW1 when he opened pandora's box back then. Athena wanted it for herself and be the one and only true god. After repeated lies and betrayals when Kratos "kills himself" that released hope into the world for all.

    what I like about the god of war series is how it breaks down Kratos. you see he was raised to be nothing but a warrior, locking away his other emotions, a weapon that lived only through love. and when that was taken away, you get to see the results of that rage. the results of having nothing left but rage. and how he was mistreated over and over again, he became the monster they all feared him to be. and in the new games, he's just trying to be better, trying to live again, to be a person again, to be a father again. I really got into the series with the new installments, but I love how Kratos matures. I love it

    There's a few crucial details missing in the recap:
    - Ares was (ironically) driven by his desire to succeed Zeus and take over Olympos.
    - The Gravedigger is actually Zeus in disguise, and directly helps Kratos in the first game.
    - Kratos ends up meeting Persephone as a result of him trying to rescue the gods from a ploy by her and Morpheus (the primordial god of darkness and dreams).
    - Kratos doesn't just kill the three main gods (Zeus, Hades and Poseidon); but Hera, Helios, Hermes and Hephaestus, as well as his half-brother Hercules. He even takes down Cronos, the titan father of Zeus.
    - Hephaestus is the creator of Pandora, and only tries to deceive and kill Kratos to protect her.

    The thing you need to know about Kratos in the original Greece God of War Games, is that he's a very emotional man. He is almost always, over the top, exhaustively angry. Where he's so pissed off that it's all that's keeping him standing and all he can feel. Even pain is nothing to his rage. But if the rage goes away, it's because he's in a very rare moment of comfort, or because the grief and self loathing has taken hold. Because under the anger is nothing but misery. Misery, self-hatred and the kind of sadness where suicide seems like a sweet, gentle relief.

    This a very summarized version of Kratos story, it is so deeper when you actually play the games( 1-2-3 + 2 expansion(Ghost of Sparta and Ascension) and go throught the twist and turns. Plus the games were at the time ground breaking both in it hack and slash gendra, but also introducing greater then life enemies. If you can i do recommend you play them (they arent that long each (maybe 10-12 hours play time each) and they will give a a greater understanding of the references appearing in God of War 4 which are you now playing. Enjoy your reaction and hopefully future onnection you ll be able to make to upcoming twist and turns in both GoW4 and potentially Gow 5-Ragnarok.

    Great reaction. Yes, this man endured so much, and god and goddess used him (didn't matter their sex all gods were selfish). In true Greek mythos the gods were pretty bad. It absolutely sickened me that he had to wear his wife and daughter's ashes because the gods are just that sick. But what I love that the love for his daughter and wife did keep him from losing all humanity. Showing that love is a powerful weapon to. What I love about the 2018 one is now Kratos is a DAD. He is trying to raise a son now alongside of being a Spartan. The scenes in it are so touching at time where you can see Kratos trying to raise a man, but also struggling at time not to just console his son. It is so beautiful. Something you don't get in a lot of games. Also, while the thought hope was kind of odd it is truly powerful. As what kills hope. Nothing. Despair can overwhelm but never destroys hope.

Like when Kratos is reunited with his daughter in the Elysium fields thanks to Persephone. To save life you have to push your daughter away while shekeeps trying to hug you. They make you do that as player

    Hey Miranda glad to see you catching up on the Trilogy, but there are actually another 3 games in the series, Assenccion which is prequal to first game and the two spinoff games which filled out gaps in between games, so Chains Of Olympus was in between Assenccion and Original. Ghost Of Sparta which filled in gap between Original and GoW 2. Personally I have played all of them myself so I'm a huge fan of Franchise, but if you catch up on story is all you need to know, I would only recommend you play GoW 3 as it perfected the previous formula of how the gameplay was before (2018) and definitely had some of the coolest boss fights in all of gamings history. Sorry I went on so long if you do read it 😅

    God of War Ascension
    God of War Chains of Olympus
    God of War
    God of War Ghost of Sparta
    God of War 2
    God of War 3
    If you do choose to play the original games in chronological order, this is it.
    Edit; added the word Greek when I realized it’s all one big timeline.

    The video was fine as a refresher. I definitely think this video was made for people that have played those games, because a lot wasn't mentioned.
    And not all of that was from God Of War 1-3, some of those were PSP, and other games like that.
    But I think you would be just fine with only playing 1-3. I recommend them greatly. They are very different games than the newer ones. But, they've always been cinematic, and the stories are good.

    What I love about the original triology is how he lost his humanity and hope again, slowly. Before the events of gow 1, he was a tool, during gow 1 he was a tool, but he had hope that could, with the help of the gods, surpass everything, gow 2 is about the change of his revenge, now Zeus, but in gow 3 he doesnt even care about anything, just destroy all in his past, because, if everyone wants to stop him from killing Zeus, they should die as well, so he destroys the world. Also, about Krato's power: gow 2 is particular because he lost all his powers at the start and, with close to any help, he become all mighty, almost killing Zeus, because Gaia couldnt give him power from tartarus, just guidance (the flame he gets by killing Prometheus), and Atlas helps him a little, but thats it, in gow 1 all gods gave him a bit of power, just like ascension and chains of olympus, and in gow3 hes just all mighty, he could have killed Zeus from the get go, just like he did to Poseidon (almost as powerfull as Zeus)

    A crossover between "God of War", "Heavenly sword", "Percy Jackson" and possibly "Prince of Persia". Can you imagine? I already have. Timeline and all. The essential thing to remember from this timeline is that the Greek Pantheon conquers most of the world's pantheons (which leads to a greatly altered version of the "Percy Jackson" saga). Oh! And Kai is responsible for saving Deimos, among other victims of the Greek saga. Despite these kind acts, she becomes the Goddess of Discord alongside Kratos.
    And before you ask... no. I don't know if I will even make this fanfic an official saga.

      I don't wanna agree because GoW 2 just had something going for it that makes it the apex of GoW... But you're speaking of story events and as much as I think GoW 2 may just be the best I have to be fair and say you're correct. As far as where the story is currently at during 2, Chains and GoS are more important and even more emotional story events.... May we stop there? No more kicking GoW 2 in the ribs. It's starting to hurt me now lol

    • @gabszz
      @gabszz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abunchahoopla4392 I like GOW2, I even think the boss fights are the best in the whole series, the gameplay is very good maybe the best too, the soundtracks are amazing too, but the story lacks in comparison to GOW1 that was more story driven and showed a more compelling kratos that was not driven by rage and his goal was erasing his memories not killing ares, in GOW2 we just have 1 goal, find the sisters of fate go back in time and kill Zeus. Is very simple and direct to the point. But for sure to me in gameplay, boss fights, the rage of titans mode R3 +L3, soundtracks, GOW2 is the best in those points. Is funny that GOW2 and GOW3 are the games responsible for people think that kratos is not deep and just a rage monster with nothing more. But in GOW1, ascension, chains of Olympus and ghost of sparta we see a different kratos. And in GOW 2018 they focus more on his human logic and reasonable side aswell like those games.

    There are few things was not mentioned here. One was Kratos actually killed his own mother because she turned in to a monster just before revealing who was Kratos's father. I dont think it mentioned how Kratos helps Helios and saves him. BTW there are 2 Greek gods who are still alive. 1 is Aphrodite, She actually helped Kratos in GOW 3, and asked some fun time in return. Aphrodite being Aphrodite . and Other Greek god who is still alive is Artemis. She appeared for a brief moment in GOW 1, giving Kratos one of her weapon to help defeat Ares.
    EDIT:
    People think of Kratos as one dimensional character. They think all he cared about his revenge and who is just a brute. But anyone who played GOW 1 and attentive to the game they will know, at first Kratos was not looking for revenge. He was seeking redemption. First thing he ever said was "The gods of Olympus has abandoned me. Now there is no off" and tried to kill himself. Thats not an action of a vengeful person.

  • @TheRealRealMClovin
    @TheRealRealMClovin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is some stuff this guy forgot to mention.
    1 Kratos mother didn’t just die. Kratos was actually forced to kill his mother.
    Because Zeus had hidden her away and put a spell on her, that if she reveals that Zeus is Kratos father she will be turned into a monster.
    So she tried to tell Kratos who his father is but was turned into this terrible monster and Kratos was forced to again kill another member of his family because of the gods.
    2 he didn’t really go into how incredible it is to defeat the sisters of fate, as the sisters of fate are the ones controlling everyones fate, future and death and can also control the future and change the past.
    Even Zeus feared their power.
    They said Kratos would die and tried to change the past by killing him there.
    Yet Kratos defeated his own fate and death, that is just crazy.
