    Gardening is additive. I started with a couple of totes. They just keep spreading out to different areas of my yard. If I keep going I will have a food forest in totes. Because of my age (72) and my health, I can't plant in the ground. I can sit in a chair and watch my veggies and now flowers grow to attract critters.

    I have another one for you: reconnects us to the land on which we live. Our ancestors were intimately familiar with sunrise, sunset, seasons, rains, etc. Modern life has disconnected us from all of that - I don’t care when the sun rises or sets because I have electricity; inside my house is temperature controlled so I have no idea how hot or cold it is until I go outside; etc. But gardening means I now have to be aware of the rhythms of the earth if I want success. Example: Planting zucchini outside in November - with the earth rhythms or no? Well, if I’m in Peru or Australia the answer will be different than if I’m in the US or Italy. And being aware of this for my garden has me looking at the other plants in my life with new appreciation.

    Very good video. People need to realize how the food supply chain is being destroyed and we all need to learn to feed ourselves thru our gardens. Communities working together helps this too. Think of having chickens for eggs and meat also.

    Thank you Angela! I am starting a small garden in my 10x20 ft patio, and plan on herbs and a couple tomato plants! I am so excited, that I made a plan on paper of what to plant and where! And you have inspired me further. Thank you!

    We live in the high desert, Prescott. Gardening is a real challenge here on our hillside. The watering grids that I first saw on your channel are a life saver. We water more efficiently, saving time, energy and money. Plants are happier too. You have given many helpful hints that I truly appreciate. Gardening keeps us (my husband and me) healthier, happier and better fed. A little time spent in the fresh air with growing things makes for a more positive and happy day. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and advice. Blessings to you.

    I agree with you. I love to garden, but many years I haven't been able to garden. But last year and so far this year I have started back gardening. I love every minute I'm out there. I love raising my own food, therefore I know where it's coming from and also it helps to cut the cost of buying food.

    I bought a bunch of seeds for next year, depending on what's going to happen. But this is my first time, and I have been regrowing carrot's, Romaine, yellow and red bell, celery , garlic, green onion, yellow onion, from store. So far they are growing beautifully. I have been doing herbs also, they are beautiful, so proud. 😁 So this is all a learning process for now, hopefully I will learn quickly, but I'm growing in pots, going to start potatoes tomorrow.

    I can't grow many zucchini. I find I do even get female zucchini when it's too hot. However, my eggplant are so productive... so moussaka plus eggplant "meatballs" instead of zucchini gets me by. Snakes just took my last female duck & chicken. So... other than eggs, I'm going pretty well, I think

    Hi there I just found your channel today! I'm a wife and mom of six homesteader in top northwestern or Arizona in the high desert and we have relentless harvester ants that wiped out our entire winter garden. Nothing we tried whatsoever worked to keep them away except for they seem to avoid a well sealed above ground metal garden tub that is open on the bottom as long as it doesn't have open sides. We don't have a big budget so can't afford tons of metal above ground gardens! I need advice regarding how do you plant so many above ground planners like you do and keep the harvester ants away? Also, do you have about 50% shade in your garden?

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ants aren't a huge issue here. I do shade parts of the garden with 50% shade cloth. Some I don't shade at all.

    Love you channel and I'd love that you do square foot gardening. I was wondering I do have Mel's book but I was wondering if you have any plans on you know growing summer vegetables I'm trying to get in more tomatoes and cucumbers and peppers and an eggplants but I was having problems trying to figure out how I can cram in some zucchinis and summer squashes do you have any plans that you have on your website or your blog

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
