I love when I get the bike out on the road when there is still ice and snow on the sides of the road! I am ready to use a grappling hook and ice pick to pull myself across the ice to get to get the yak into the tiny bit of open water we have right now. Still have 95% ice coverage out there. I'm chompin' at the bit to get back after it!! Great video and catch!

Nice start to the season!! I laughed when I saw the square bill I pulled the same one out af a tree last weekend. I had to go hunt for a big fallen branch to do so but it was worth it for a free 6th sense lure it was brand new!

Burly - any recommendations for kayak clothing? Just purchased a first kayak this past winter and curious what sort of clothes/ boots you recommend for spring and summer. Any help is appreciated!
A good coat, possibly wool underlayers, 800g Thinsulate or more boots (I have the lacrosse alpha burly pros), comfy clothes. Possibly a dry suit if you are worried about tipping or in dangerous water
@@aaanglers thank you kindly sir! Sounds like warm, layered, no cotton - but nothing to specialized. I might even get away with my Orvis waders and boots for spring fly fishing.

Biggest thing is to dress for the swim, not the for the air temp. Dress for the worst case scenario. Just like with motorcycles where you should dress for the slide across the pavement.
A good rule of thumb amongst Great Lakes sea kayakers and kayak fisherman is if the sum of the air temp + the water temp is less than 120 you should wear a dry suit.
