Richie, thank you for the preset! I absolutely love it! I just got my Helix last week, and even though I'm about 6 years behind everyone else, this thing is so amazing. now my education into the Helix begins. it's amazing to be able to see how all the effects actually work in a graphic environment. Thanks again for the preset!!!
Strat sounds more like the record to me. Love your videos. So down to earth. Concise. Relevant. Really clear explanations. I’ve learned a ton about helix and music. Always time well spent . Thanks for taking the time and sharing your experience.
I’ve been pouring over this solo sound for years and I have to say great work man. Closest I’ve heard by far. Tasteful playing too. Nothing too flash to ruin it. Great job 👍
Wow, I am now a fan. this patch is just inspiring. makes me soar. great way to pick up this most classic of solos. thanks. saw you rock out at Santa Cruz before the pandemic. i knew you had the feeling, didn't know you had the tech in your pocket too.
Thanks 🙏! Went and picked up a Helix ( in limited edition blue ; 0 ) and your preset was the first thing I loaded. Wow, I’m actually playing the riff now, amazing how much having things sound correct help get the feel... you’re awesome man, thanks for sharing this, put a smile on my face ear to ear, no joke. Been chasing Gilmore tone with stomp boxes forever, never got close...
Thank you so much for sharing your patches, I download it and it kicks ass! Also you do a awesome jobs with all your videos and love your band geek material. Cheers from Maryland.
Thank you Richie love your videos, I've just started to play again I have a hotrod deluxe with a HSS start would you recommend the hx effects I'm not really a tech guy. Is it easy to use as I've always been a pedal guy. Loved to video with your dad. Thank you John from Ireland 🇮🇪
Prefaced by: I do not have Helix, and have not heard of it before today. I've respected you since I found you on YT. This is just incredible attention to detail, though. Awesome insight into how the sound is made, and extrapolatable to NI GR5 or OverLoud TH2/TH3. Lots of cool insight into how to arrange things, even *not* for that exact song.
Hi Richie, nice presentation. I have not played a guitar in years and as you know, equipment has changed drastically. I have always loved the sound from comfortable numb. Please tell me the equipment I need to sound like this. Thanks.
Great vid. Sweet tone. I keep shying away from the variax, but when I see you playing it, I get curious again. Do you use it often? And for what kind of thing? (I'm a veteran working guitarist - you know what that entails.)
Thank You so much for this. been working on learning it plan to do a recorded Video . I'm pretty much brand new to this Guitar recording but between you and my good friend who's helping I very happy.
Hi Ritchie, I would like to transpose your presset on a PODGO. But there is only one DSP ... What effect I have to keep in the presset to be close to this sound ? I can add some external pedals ... Thanks . Olivier
Great work Richie, sorry i ask you because I m new using guitars and effects, If i use a guitar is not the ones you using in this video is there a lot difference to the sound i get from the patch directly ?? does the guitar change much the tone ? thanks
I have my foot switches set to my snapshots within each preset. I am trying to be able to control which snapshots are enabled without having to click on a foot switch. When I go into Helix edit, I do not have the ability to choose Bypass on a snapshot. I would like to have ability to set a CC param, like you are doing, so that I could have midi change from one snapshot to another. Do you have any ideas on how I can go about doing this? BTW, I have tried setting Program Change 1 at 1:00:000, Program Change 2 at 2:00:000, etc... but nothing changed. I think it is because I need to send a CC param. I would love to know your thoughts and thanks for the tutorials
The second solo goes into overdrive so what would you recommend I add/change to get that sound. I've had the helix about a month now but due to work have only spent about a week with it. It's simple yet incredibly complex at the same time 😂
David Gilmour’s guitar solos in Comfortably Numb are my all time favourites! The emotion, the tone, the cries, bring me to another place. Richie you have mastered these. I would love to hear your cover of this song in its entirety! Where can I find it? Thx!
Excellent work Richie, my JTV 59 sounds a bit different even using the spank models but I am very grateful for your work on this. You provide excellent content across the board - thanks!
That is a very decent patch....Using it for Time solo as well......a couple of tweaks and it is good even with my Hagstrom Swede with humbuckers...........thx Richie.....
I must be doing something wrong. I've loaded this patch into Helix Native running on Garage Band, using the HX Stomp as dry interface (USB input channel 5). The sound I get with this patch is nowhere near the sound in the video. It sounds like flies buzzing compared. Using the WhoWhat cab. What could I be doing wrong?
I'm unclear....when you split the signal path, you have a part of your guitar tone that's not going into the IR. So that part of the sound is being blended in without any speaker emulation?
Hey Richie awesome tutorial as always. Any chance of u doing a tutorial based on the new firmware update with all the Legacy effects? Like a comparison between the new Legacy tube screamer vs the mono screamer etc. Curious to see ur take on this.
Hi Richie, very good Helix preset for this song, thanks a lot for sharing it ! I see in the preset that there is an IR but can't find it anywhere, please can you tell where I can download it please ?
Freebird! Ha...... nice job with the preset. The strat sounded much better. I’m planning on getting a helix and looking at reviews. Seems like a really versatile guitar processor.
Hi Richie I was going to buy some ownhammer IRs including the ones you often use But on Their site they have a lot of bundles and it’s not easy to find what you need Could you tell me which bundle(s) you purchase from them ??? Thanks in advance Best wishes for you and the band geek gang
By the way I downloaded this and with a slight tweaking for my Fender Strat it sounds fantastic. Thanks! Any suggestions for the rest of the songs guitar tones? It would be great to create a Gilmour preset complete with separate snapshots for different sections. Should I just pull back some on the gains and tweak within the parameters? Any input would be appreciated.
sounded real good richie,Im really liking the helix but still a little out of my budget.im wanting to buy a line6 hd500x or a boss gt100.is the hd500 real close to the helix, hopefully you get time to get back with me,Ive ask you about a couple weeks ago and hadnt heard back but I understand how busy you get and dont have time to answer everybody, keep rocking.
This is just solo patch so how do switch to this from clean patch as this not a snapshot patch ? Do you have patch that has rythmn then lead on it you can stomp to ?
@@RichieCastellano the helix Is new...probably Is because my Stratocaster Is hss, but i don't know why sometime sounds very clean and sometime no. Thank you very much
I just added it last minute. I was really missing something, so I went back and listened to the original and heard the harmony. It might be coming from an instrument in the orchestra, but this solution works too.
hey Richie really awesome job. Question, where do you set the input impedance and or are there any other settings that are not captured when you upload?
The strat is way better, but I think you have a tad too much gain or boost. There was a little fizziness to it, maybe more mids would help. Sounds great though!!
this sounds fantastic...except my Suhr can't rap the grit that fender is throwing out there..just sounds kinda muddy and distorted....just can't hear that edge..maybe its time to dump the Suhr for a Fender..lol
Richie, thank you for the preset! I absolutely love it! I could listen to those solos all day long. Gilmore is a genius on guitar. Great job getting the sound, Richie.
Strat sounds more like the record to me. Love your videos. So down to earth. Concise. Relevant. Really clear explanations. I’ve learned a ton about helix and music. Always time well spent . Thanks for taking the time and sharing your experience.
Amazing tone patch here Ritchie. great insights in your patch making process. keep it up. Thanks for all you do for the Helix community
Really appreciate how and why you use certain settings. Helps in understanding your approach.
Keep up the great work.

I have to thank you for supplying these videos for a newbie to the Helix. You are helping me heaps in creating my own sounds.
Richie man, that is EXCELLENT playing and sound, wow :), your dad must be proud :) thank you so much :)

Dig the sounds man. Just picked up a Helix and i'm excited to try some of your patches to get started. Thanks for the hard work!
Hey Richie - this patch is amazing! Thank you for sharing.
awesome tone and playing. love it
Thank you so much for sharing your patches, I download it and it kicks ass! Also you do a awesome jobs with all your videos and love your band geek material. Cheers from Maryland.
Thanks Richie great walk thru and looking forward to grabbing this from the site.
Your added harmony note for the beginning of the first solo is built by the background strings in the original studio recording. Nice touch!!

WOW!!! YOU NAILED IT!!! Was wondering what you did differently to the settings in Helix when you switched to the strat
Oh my...that is spot on, and the playing is perfect!
Wow I learnt a lot from this video. Thinking about Helix or Kemper. The helix seems so versatile here and which is a big plus!
Great preset. I would love to see the acoustic preset for Comfortably Numb as well. My band plays it every gig that we bring keyboards.
Fantastic !! Love the Harmonizer addition under CC control!!
Total Obsessive Compulsion on my part. LOL

What you said about the twin harmoniser explains a sound that pops up in a couple places on Gilmore's work. That's a very good ear you have there.

Really excellent video: great sound and well explained
the real Strat sounded much better than the Variax.
It really did.
I'm unclear....when you split the signal path, you have a part of your guitar tone that's not going into the IR. So that part of the sound is being blended in without any speaker emulation?
I'm not Richie, but the the rotary speaker acts as a speaker block, and sounds better without a speaker or IR on the same path.
Yup, what Lee said. The the rotary effect is technically a speaker simulator so I kept it out of the IR path.
Thanks! This is a great service for your Helix fans!
Hey Richie awesome tutorial as always. Any chance of u doing a tutorial based on the new firmware update with all the Legacy effects? Like a comparison between the new Legacy tube screamer vs the mono screamer etc. Curious to see ur take on this.
Your strat sounds better to me less cgi sounding
Hi Richie, very good Helix preset for this song, thanks a lot for sharing it ! I see in the preset that there is an IR but can't find it anywhere, please can you tell where I can download it please ?

mijlaid there’s a lot of information on getting his tones on gilmourish.com
Super Nice Ritchie. You definitely put the time in, much appreciated.
Any way to get the backing track?
I'm only sharing the preset for now. Thanks!
The only man to own a Variax
Sounds fantastic in the video but terrible on my Helix LT. What could be the problem? Any idea?
Richie you are awesome .. thanks for this
Mate can you do one for coming back to life as well?
Awesome Richie, thanks so much!!!!

I'd definitely go with the HD500.
Sounds great. What speakers do you play thru in your studio when crafting patches?
Dynaudio BM-5A
Hey Richie, which DiMarzios are on your roadworn strat?
I don't have any of this equipment but the tones are great
Great info...thanks Richie!
Great patch/sound, and well-explained. All I need to do now is learn the notes.
Then buy a guitar.
Awesome job, I know what I’m gonna be doing this weekend
This sounds awesome . Is there anyway I could download it to HX Stomp ?
Sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing!
This is just solo patch so how do switch to this from clean patch as this not a snapshot patch ? Do you have patch that has rythmn then lead on it you can stomp to ?
Dank jou for jour help!! Great tone!!!. Amigo!.
thanks for the info and you're a very wonderful guitar player!. love your videos thanks!
Do you have a similar preset for comfortably numb for hx stomp?
Love it!!!! - I liked the strat better, but man that chorus really punches that entire patch!!!!
Fantastic. What Variax model are you using?
amazing job, sir.
the sound is wonderful but i don't know why in my helix after a while that i play the sound gets distorted and it's not as clean as yours 🙁
It’s probably the IR. Make sure you have an IR loaded in the IR block.
@@RichieCastellano the helix Is new...probably Is because my Stratocaster Is hss, but i don't know why sometime sounds very clean and sometime no. Thank you very much
@@RichieCastellano Ah ok! I understand now! The ir Is empty🙂 thank you very much!!
I would prefer using od pedal to booster triangle fuzz
I have an SG with classic 57 humbuckers. Could this patch work with it?
Can i download this on to my helix floor?
I noticed it was made with the helix rack.
Genius with the harmoniser! Just when I thought my patch was good 🙁
I just added it last minute. I was really missing something, so I went back and listened to the original and heard the harmony. It might be coming from an instrument in the orchestra, but this solution works too.
Bro that tone is superb! Can you do a video on how to use the helix with pro tools ???
hey Richie really awesome job.
Question, where do you set the input impedance and or are there any other settings that are not captured when you upload?
Is it possible to create that sound on a POD go?
The strat is way better, but I think you have a tad too much gain or boost. There was a little fizziness to it, maybe more mids would help. Sounds great though!!
Own Hammer IRs are a complete game changer
Richie, Where can I download the Ir from ?
Ownhammer.com I think Richie said the V60 or V70 with an SM-7.
sounds awesome
Does this work with (Line 6 M5 StompBox Modeler)
Awesome sounds great thanks
Great work Richie
Where did you get the background track?
Thanks.
Great stuff - loved it.
Good stuff, Richie C. Interestingly it definitely sounded better to my ear with the Strat.
this sounds fantastic...except my Suhr can't rap the grit that fender is throwing out there..just sounds kinda muddy and distorted....just can't hear that edge..maybe its time to dump the Suhr for a Fender..lol
Best one I’ve heard!
Richie, where did you get the backing track?
I made it
That’s impressive! My patch sounds great now, it was an issue with the IR. Happy to purchase the backing track from you if it’s for sale?
Thanks Richie!
GRANDE CASTELLANO...Grate man...👍🤞🤟
Is this possible with an hx stomp
Very cool!!
Can you make this work on the HX FX?
Brilliant. Thank you !!
Thank you Richie :)
Great playing.
