How To Repair Audi/VW Fuel Cap Lock

In this video I explain how to fix a faulty fuel cap lock. This is on my 2014 Audi SQ5, but I have seen that the VW fuel cap lock looks very similar, so I guess it will also work on the VW vehicles. My vehicle's fuel cap did not lock when the car was locked with the remote. I could not hear the motor locking or unlocking when I pressed the remote button.
I picked it up on a diagnostic scan with my VCDS that showed a fault code 02616 Fuel tank cap; Unlock - Open or Short to Ground. So, that lead me to testing the fuel cap door if it locks or not.
I tested the wiring to see if the lock is getting power when I press the remote lock and unlock button and saw that there was power. I then searched TH-cam and only saw videos of guys replacing the lock without trying to fix it, so I took a chance and lo and behold it worked...
Just opened the lock very carefully and sprayed some WD-40 on the moving parts. I could immediately feel that the parts are moving more freely. Closed it up and tested it with surprise that it is working 100%.
So if you don't want to waste money on paying a dealer for a new expensive part, just fix it yourself. Took me less than a hour.
