  • Freiburg, Germany is one of the best cities to visit in Germany, hidden in the southwest part of the country Freiburg is the most sunny city in Germany. You have incredible people, beautiful black forest hikes, and the munster is a great place to visit. Also, be careful you don't fall into a bachle as that water on the side of the road could mean you might be marrying someone from Freiburg in your future.

    Freiburg has also another big park that isn't in the city center called Seepark. It's a nice park around a lake offering recreational activities for all ages, with its swimming lake, restaurants, playgrounds and miniature golf.

    • @patricianilsen4021
      @patricianilsen4021 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for mentioning Seepark and the swimming. My family is from Sulzburg, and my uncle and tante settled here in Freiburg. The beer garden had a delicious onion pizza, and the market around the cathedral has the best wurst vendors….there is great music, the shops are lovely too. The cathedral clock fascinated me as a child. My tante has long passed, but when we last visited and then traveled to other family in Switzerland, the train to Frankfurt airport made a stop here, and there was my aunt, with a Freiburg tote full of chocolates and fruit for our journey. I’m so glad to see this city get the attention it deserves.

    • @KurthTobias
      @KurthTobias ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@patricianilsen4021 @Patricia Nilsen Yeah the wurst vendors are great. The onions you can get to your wurst is something I miss then I'm not in the area. The wurst vending is a big thing, so big that the vendors are obligated to rotate their selling spots at the Münster Market on a weekly basis so no vendor has an advantage over the others

    Freiburg is twin city with my now town Besançon. I'm originally from Belfort and Freiburg was the nearest German town to us.
    I really enjoy this town, lots of history, welcoming people, lot of youth due to the university.
    Lots of restaurants, bars, people there take the time to live, to enjoy!
    It's an ecological town too.
    And Europa park, the famous, entertainment park is not far away.

    Tickets:
    Adults 5 Euro

    There is no elevator and the upper staircase leading to the top viewing platform is a bit slim.

I visited again for a few days in 2003 (?) and was delighted to see the sheepherder was still there with his dog and sheep on the hillside into the Kappel valley. I was hoping to have liver & onions with spaetzle at Kappler Kreuz, but they were closed that day. The Schwarzwald above Kappel was very beautiful, with lots of quaint wooden signs telling which way at path junctions. Magical. Sundays early in the day many Freiburg folks would come in family units and lederhosen to hike. Do the bells in the Muenster tower still ring?

    7:34 You mixed in a photo of Graz, Austria there!
    Thanks for writing about Freiburg. I grew up there, I like it. I always forget my hiking boots and it's wonderful to hike barefoot and cool one's toes in the little stream of water. Well actually wear whatever shoes you like, just no high heels, those are impractical on the old pavement. Just don't get run over by a tram or bike.
    For Schauinslandbahn you don't need a taxi, you can easily go there by tram and bus. Also there are good tickets on the RVF.
    What you didn't mention: It's a bicycle friendly city. When I'm there I do most of my trips by bike, it's by far the most healthy, practical and convenient way to explore the place, you can stop anywhere, you experience more along the way than in other modes of transport and they have nice bicycle routes. I'm sure there's a way for tourists to rent a bike as well.

    I live in Freiburg and I can only say that you are so right. Freiburg is beautiful. But you forgot to mention something. Because of the whole thing that so many universities are here there are actually a lot of cool things. For example: when you are under the age of 25 you can go into the museums owned by the city for free. Which is great. So maybe a tip for your next trip? Museums are free for people under the age of 25.

    Freiburg is a great place to check out. Has a lot of character and the Spaetzle is delish in the pubs. Der Munster back in 2018 had all these renovations and it was covered up. :( I couldn't check it out. As for the Bachle, I have seen a few accidents with bikers when i visited for a few days (looked very painful), and from drunks at night sometimes fall in. Do be careful if staring at your mobile and walking around.

    This is a really great video about freiburg, I think you’ve covered a lot of the important points. I’ve been here for 6 months now and I’ll leave in a few days, so I wish you’ve made this before :)). I hope everyone will have a great time in freiburg as I certainly did. Also just wanna add, the appealing two towered church is really nice but beware of drug dealers around, if you’re not a stoner. But even they are quiet friendly in freiburg they speak very well english like many of the residents and you can actually have a conversation with them if you care to

    So we added Freiburg to our itinerary while in Germany based on your recommendation. We arrived there by train to a windy rain in the 40’s. No problem we will take the trams into downtown. It turns out the trams are on strike. Ok let’s take a cab. Can’t buy a cab. I think they may have been on strike too. We take a relatively quick walk into town in the rain. Not a horrible walk. Lots of interesting shops, beautiful churches, nice lunch and another wet walk back to the train. Lesson learned, always bring a rain coat and confirm the trams aren’t on strike.
