    Darryl Laycock tells his story.
Darryl Laycock was lucky to survive one of the most violent periods in Manchester's criminal history. After being shot over 20 times and spending half his life behind bars, Darryl has now dedicated the rest of it to keeping others off the same path he took when he was younger.
Darryl grew up in Moss Side in the seventies and eighties, in a house where his dad battered his mum.
By the age of nine, he was seeing a child psychologist because he smashed a chair over a classmate in primary school.
At 13, he was hanging around the streets of Moss Side , causing trouble and stealing cigarettes to sell. Within a year, he was dealing heroin around Alexandra Park.
Soon after, he was mixed up in a gang war that would earn Manchester its infamous ‘Gunchester’ nickname.
As the tit-for-tat dispute escalated, Darryl watched his friend get gunned down in a bakery, killed by a bullet to the head.
Throughout the 1990s, there were tit-for-tat fights, stabbings, shootings and murders in Moss Side. In the space of five years, 27 people were killed and around 250 were injured.
Darryl says, in the course of the whole dispute, he lost over 30 friends and family to murder.
In the course of the dispute, Darryl says he was charged with numerous murders, attempt murders, conspiracy to murder, and section 18 assault.

Can you please invite darryl in again . He has so much more to tell .My comments are late but i will say darryl was a bad man. ( real deal , game and ready ) very dangerous man back in the day . happy that he has vacated his position as a gun man and is now channeling his energy and educating kids about the reality of gang life and it is nothing glamorous. you have a few good years and then its down hill . no loyalty . no friends . grab what u can . horrible lifestyle . but darryl big up my man . keep up the good work . you are a rare gem

Darryl Laycock. My old/first pad mate in HMP Lindholme in 1995. I'd just been 'Reclassified' at 20 Yr old to adult status and my first pad-mate in cons was this fella.
I remember that story you told me about the first time you got shot in the bottom of your foot. That story hasn't changed one iota in 26 years.
Good to see you're doing well in life Darryl 👍Stay safe and respect bro.

I hope this guy can get himself into shape, loose weight- gain more energy, become more lively, can feel and see his low but this guy been through alot I can hear, I by all means say this not as disrespect, but to make his life better. Loosing weight, been in good shape and health, physically n mentally, he's on the journey but, be a good challenge for him and the energy increase will be huge for this man as., maybe he has story to tell the full u,k and do a tour around. Serving that amount of time , been shot at that number of times, he has 1 heck of a life story and that can look after him financially in future. All the best

Anyone one with Jamaican blood in them seems to be the baddest man in the country. Theyre crazy (not in an offensive way)....whether its the bham boys lile Zimbo, or Bristol boys like King Aggi, or this fella here Darryl from Mamchester, not forgetting the South London bois....theyre all the real deal
