i almost threw the book several because of him
No because same. Honestly I never expected to cry to this book but the amount of times he kept picking on Red especially near the end and that one undressing scene made me so stressed out for her that tears started coming out.

i just recently finished 5 Survived and i cried my eyes out at the end. It is an amazing book! I am really looking forward to reading the Good Girls Guide To Murder trilogy!

I read Five survive back in January, I was this close to running outside and screaming my lungs out. Loved it 5 ⭐.
Ok, but watching madita read this reminds me of my confusion whilst reading this.
yesssss it was soo good but so confusing
I just finished this book and loved it. I do have a bunch of jumbled thoughts that I need to dump somewhere. There are spoilers though lol.
1. This book made me love Holly Jackson again. AGGGTM 3 was not my favorite, and then this book came around and I absolutely loved it.
2. This book was so much fun to read. Like every other Holly Jackson book (yes, even "As good as dead") I read it in one sitting once I had the time. It was so gripping and suspenseful.
3. I want to give Red a hug. Literally all the hugs. My girl deserves the world.
4. Joy and Don deserved so much better :( I was really hoping they'd pull through.
5. Catch me trying not to cry at the walkie talkie scene at the end. Like. A murder mystery had no business being that heartbreaking at the end.
6. Oliver is the worst. I'm glad he bit the dust at the end. Can you imagine if he went on to become the U.S attorney general? I'd leave the country. I went the whole book wanting to punch him in the face. What a loser. Reyna deserves better.
7. Did I mention that this book was so much fun to read. It was what a thriller should be. I mean, yeah it was convoluted at some points, which is why it's a 4.5 and not a 5 rating, but I thoroughly enjoyed this awesome book. :)

Oliver was unbearable, to say the least! But you know what was worse? It was how the others simply went along with his plans without putting up much of a protest. Yeah, they would maybe resist a little bit every time Oliver came up with a bad plan, but they always ended up giving in! Even when he was literally torturing Red to bits, the others didn't do anything to help her. They simply stood by and watched! And no, sobbing and inaudible murmuring do NOT count. I just finished the book and I'm so mad right now. Like, yes, Oliver is the actual threat but you guys didn't stand up for Red either! You didn't hold Oliver accountable even once when Don and Joyce died! You let him continue to be "in charge"! Like, what?? Who tf put him in charge?! And whenever he was threatening them with the knife, he could have been easily disarmed by the others - they were FIVE against one! And still they didn't try? I mean, it's not like they were children, what were they so scared of Oliver for?? The power imbalance was never properly explained. If Oliver was 21, the others were at least 17. They shouldn't have been that scared. That's why they say, although villains are bad, even worse are the people who don't pick sides. I was so pissed at Oliver but after a point, I couldn't decide if it was Oliver I was pissed at for being an a**hole, or the others for being bigger a**holes by supporting and enabling him.
Also, I didn't like the way Oliver was simply shot down in the end. That was too easy and didn't address his wrongdoings at all. I'd have loved a scene where he got punched, slapped, or beaten up by the others in the RV for his actions. A scene where the others actually stand up to him and make him pay for his actions, make him realize that he was NOT the leader, that he was NOT in charge. By simply having him shot in the end, Oliver died knowing that he was still in charge, that he was still something great. He died feeling like a winner and not the obnoxious loser that he was. Urrrghhhh I know I sound mad af right now. It's just that I hate how the characters were so timid and scared of him, that too for NO apparent reason. Every single character was so spineless, it made me want to gouge my eyes out!

As much as I hate that the others just gave in to whatever Oliver said, Red did too.....
She knew the dangers outside and still let him give that old couple that letter, she also gave into his "plan", just like everyone else, to send Maddie out even when knowing all the dangers....
So,
In my opinion,
No one character was better than the other.....
Oliver was just the worst!
And it's not that Red was the only one humiliated here, we just read the book from her pov.... (Tho, I do agree that she was the MOST humiliated one....)
And I do agree, that they all should have teamed up and have tried fighting against him (like they did to bring Red back in the camper)... 5 against 1 is totally a one-way win (maybe being scared, and being at the edge of death made them weaker both emotionally and physically unable to fight him with a knife on, but that's fine...... they are just teens 😮💨)
And yeah, he should have been humiliated and have died a way worse death than he did

Omg I devoured this book. I waited so desperately for this vlog. Your emotions are on point. 7:50 yep same thing I hoped for. 15:20 omg I was so that this happened. Same as with Barney. Reading this was the first time of me throwing my book threw the room. I’m the end I bawled my eyes out same as you. Your emotions were so identical to mine. Loved this vlog!

Just finished this book. It was insane. Like, I just had to put it down a couple times and sob, cause I was TERRIFIED. I had a full body reaction to some of the scenes. Goosebumps everywhere, tears, gasps. THE LETTER AT THE END GAVE ME FULL ON SOBBING AND STARING BLANKLY.
