This really shows how much of Decino's viewerbase have actually played Doom, with the sheer amount of people in the secret places. There must be about 200 people who know Doom inside and out. Cool!
*WOW* See? This is the kind of experiences I dreamed about back in the day when I discovered multiplayer gaming with Quake and Quake 2. We played on "Internet cafés" because access to broadband didn't exist (except for expensive ISDN lines) and it was so much fun! A couple of years later some huge maps appeared to play Deathmatch with 64 people but the most I've played with is 32. I always hoped for the future with newer technology to give us something similar. I wanted newer FPS games to be like slaughter maps that you could play with other people like an MMO but without monthly subscriptions or any other recurring payment BS. PvP for hundreds of players and Co-op against thousands of enemies. Sadly, this hasn't happened... yet. But I'm happy to see other people interested in the same thing. It is one of the reasons I started developing my own stuff because if I have to wait until AAA companies do it, it will never happen.
- Heretic (for something different) - Hellbound (just because it's massive, gorgeous and might play better on massive co-op. It's a bit boring by oneself) - Scythe (for the banter of 200 players in tiny maps) - Alien Vendetta (because it's arguably the greatest megawad ever created)
hellbound would be a great WAD for this, lots of open spaces, lots of monsters to kill, variety of levels; but not so chaotic that it becomes unplayable
I Was There. And that was one chaotic CO-OP session. There were a few hiccups but we had fun. Plus we got to see notch (The Creator of Minecraft) Play Doom.
It's amazing seeing how much improvement the odamex devs were able to implement since the previous test. Here's to hoping they can continue working some more magic!
lol that was my biggest problem, finding the damn keys; having to go back get the yellow key when everyone else is progressing due to a closed door. We either need considerate players who will act as doormen for keydoors, or they should set it so once a keydoor is open it stays permanently open
Playing DooR with everyone was so funny! :D I really hope that in the future you do a coop livestream with only a handful of people in okuplok... you know, like Peter. Make epic even greater!
Doorstop man - The real hero of the stream. Don't get me wrong this looks like good clean fun but let's be honest, Doom levels with 150 players turn into a mess.
Ahh i missed the stream. Its good to see the doors are a bit better this time around. Glad to see some dedicated players to stand under and be doormen. You are appreciated! My boy Decino still gettin kills wit the pistola' in Deathmatch
I had to leave for 30 minutes that turned almost 3 hours :( I completely missed the Deathmatch part... 3:10:10 25 years later I get to learn players can pick up the plasma gun from that side of the platform!!
Pretty amazing! MAN! I remember when I designed 2 entire episodes for this game (my own episodes, via the "DEU" editor by Raphael Quinet), and... that was back in the 90's!!!!!!!! This is great though, wow. Just shows how far tech has come--Doom with 150+ players, wtf!!!!! :D :D :D :D
Brings back memories. I used to hook up all my old computers and do doom lab with friends in high school. It was Co op until someone talked shit then the death match was on.
Hell: 'Hah, It is just one marine against legions of my best' Doomguy: 'This is for killing my pet' Hell: 'Crap...' Later: Doomguy: 'Hippity hoppity, get of my property!' Hell: 'Not this again...' Much later: Hell: 'Finally... Peaceful' Doomguys: 'Okay lads, just like we planned... Shotguns only' Hell: 'F.U.C.K'
It ran quite smooth this time with the commercial wads on my end. Few moments of rubberbanding and my client crashed maybe two or three times during the whole session. I used the 0.8.2 version linked in the description. Recorded most of my gameplay... but forgot to un-mute desktop audio for the first 45minutes because I had been recording from Switch with the capture card the last time using OBS so I don't think I will be using the material for anything. Again had your stream in the background to hear you guys talking though it was - like you said, 20-30seconds behind. One suggestion here - put up a voice chat through maybe discord or something similar so that we could listen in realtime you (and Peter, if possible) talking. No point in making it a voice chat for everyone because it would be quite impossible to listen to but it would be nicer to hear your commentary while playing when everything is happening and not half a minute behind.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen the rest of Pharaoh thanks to that oversight with the yellow key. Also, didn't think you'd know who Aquarius was, so that's cool, too!
This was insane! I was there all the way through Ultimate Doom up until Okuplok. Then rejoined for the last third of TNT and deathmatch. I'm proud of my third place on that first match. Holy Hell was on the backup server so I assume it could run just fine with only about 20 or less players. I joined afterwards and finished off the last half of the map after the stream with 5 other people.
About those crashes... at least if you are on Windows you can instruct the operating system to collect a crash dump file, which you can send back to the developers to help them fix their bugs. There is settings in registry: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/wer/collecting-user-mode-dumps
There should be a modded version of this with a UAC Invasion. As in any player that dies on the server doesnt respawn, not even in the next level. So it replicates how effective UAC's defenses actually were.
